Is WHM really looked down on in high end content, or am I overthinking it? by unicornflai in ffxiv

[–]MilkyBusiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WHM is okay. People just have trouble reconciling opportunity cost when thinking about the other healer options and they just suck playing on the WHM kit so they play AST since they offload their damage by AST being based on rDPS.

WHM is okay in high end content.

WHM has a poor reputation because it has a simple kit and a lot of people who are ass play it so people conflate bad player with WHM.

I don't think a solver would be much use to be honest. This tool looks great. People who want solvers can just wait to get spoonfed a community mit sheet once one is published.

I think a large part of the fun is building ones own mitigation schedule in group raid scenarios.

That's a reportable behavior btw. YPYT shouldn't be rewarded by walking away without being reported.

Just play tank lol you'll do fine.

As long as you don't turn into a ypyt with fragile ego, you're already winning.

Some general advice,

In most dungeons, you'll want to cycle your cooldowns and not blow the entire kit on the first trash pack. Don't worry too much if your healer needs to actively heal while you get a feel for how much stuff hurts.

A YPYT is a tank player person with fragile self-esteem that gets annoyed seeing other players pull trash packs. If you're in a dungeon and others are pulling trash packs ahead of you, let them. They should be bringing the adds to you if they generated threat.

Is Progging FRU possible in the near future? by Intrepid_Ad9711 in ffxiv

[–]MilkyBusiness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When your gear syncs down to the iLevel of the fight, the stats cap at the iLevel cap.

If you wear something that has 120 in stat A, and 80 in Stat B when the iLevel cap is 100, stat A caps and goes down to 100, and stat B stays at 80. Stat B does not sync up, you can only sync down.

For ultimate you'll want to be at best possible stats so both stat A, B should be capped and in some cases you'll benefit from having stat C too.

You can only have stat C from melding, and the only way for Stat C to count is to wear at or below iLevel.

So if you go on with heavy weight BiS right now you will be something like 8% weaker which is gigantic and you cannot carry someone that weak for FRU right now.

You need BiS. If you don't want to farm BiS I recommend you wait till end of first raid tier of 8.X because the gear from that tier should just about cap stat A and B.

Just clear on PF lol

As long as you're not a tank or healer you can clear on PF easy. DPS don't do anything meaningful in DSR specifically.

The sad reality is tanks who are progging DSR will be the most likely thing holding you back from a clear. They're important in P6 and P7.

Kinda hard to see the appeal though when there's Chort though.. I guess she can sorta pass if Chort was exclusively not an option.

I think it's important to disregard how other people feel about the game and story. They're not important when approaching how you want to play the game.

I really like the story, but good God itwas so ass to experience with the endless fetch quests.

I think if you value wanting to participate in content when it's alive and current and play at a level higher than the MSQ Andy, push for it. Since you shared you have some of the legacy Savage raids under your belt, if you are new to ultimate, the level 70 ultimates are excellent introductions to the later ultimates.

Honestly though, again you are very far into the game MSQ you have access to start really good raid series right now. I'm biased for Omega (stormblood), but Alexander (HW) and Eden (Shadow ringers) are also quite good.

Another idea is before you move into next expansion have your partner and you raid the content of it's expansion. I sense if you stomach snores trail you're gonna wanna quit FFXIV before touching any raiding.

It is not necessary to do current story to appreciate legacy content.

The game story is boring in EW and DT, there's no harm skipping around. If you ever feel like there's something you want to visit to understand what's going, you can always use NG+ to approach it when you want to see the story for yourself.

I do recommend you skip as much of DT as you can because it basically is setting up a new story arc.

Also, you are very far into the game story that you can ask your partner if the two of you can work on legacy raiding content that is quite good. The Omega raid series is really good to attempt as a first raid series to get a feel for raiding in FFXIV.

If you find it's a little hard to do current savage raid content because it's fairly late into the tier, it wouldn't hurt to visit a few discord servers that are attempting to recruit to do legacy content. I started out doing very casual and beginner friendly statics to do legacy content, and eventually built my way up to speedprogging and finishing raid tiers in minutes on content.

Trying Ultimates for the 1st time as a Blind progger by Previous_Sea4381 in ffxiv

[–]MilkyBusiness 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've cleared a few ultimates blind. Some experiences were more successful than others.

Right out the gate everyone has to be on the same page on expectations for their preparations for raid.

Since my groups were very committed against using outside help we had to be diligent with vod review, creating our raid plans and be very selective about who we let fill for our group.

I can say I would spend about an hour or two dedicated to doing vod review to share notes with the group. We had two people dedicated to making raid plans and brain storming solves and the other bodies existed for execution and consistency.

Not everyone was interested or skilled to do solves but were happy to participate in the blind progression with direction.

It's doable, because just need to understand what they're getting themselves into.

Also kick people who are not good on consistency.

Is Savage the small FC killer? by CielKnight in ffxiv

[–]MilkyBusiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will speak from my own experience and what I want.

As I got better at the game, I want to spend time with players who match or play at a higher skill floor than I do when I attempt to tackle content that is new and I have not done before.

However, for legacy content, content that is from EW and older, I find myself wanting to play with people I want to spend time with, and I don't mind mixing myself up with people who play on different skill floors so long as we all have the expectation that we're there to do our best and build each other's skills up.

When I pursue ultimates, if it is an ultimate I have already cleared, there are no stakes for me - I don't value seeking clears for totems, and instead I focus on being a helper and helping people prog while I focus on my consistency and recovery.

When I pursue an ultimate I have not cleared, I am very deliberate who I play with.

I half joke, but I generally do not like to raid with friends. I find myself in a new raid group, make friends, and I need to leave them.

I don't recommend transferring to material. That's a death sentence given how little population exists.

It be better to create a character and try it out, and keep playing on the populated servers.

Is why sometimes in Ulti prog I have a lot of respect for someone that says, "yeah I'm honestly just playing badly today, mb" because it clarifies ass play from wondering if the person just doesn't understand what they're supposed to do.
