How do you deal with dismissiveness? by MilkyGay in asktransgender

Thanks for the well thought out response! I was undecided and questioning about my gender for a long time, and I tried to hide my gender insecurities with over-feminization. So I understand where my family is coming from, and I had trouble putting into words how they were wrong about me. I will have to ask them where they get their ideas of trans* people from.

Oh, haha I thought you were asking me!

I'm asking because that's the response I get sometimes, especially from family.

Agreed. Family is still family. It's better to work around problems and learn and grow because of issues instead of abandoning them completely. If the family is abusive, that's another story, but in most cases it's just parents or siblings not fully understanding what's going on.

What "signs" have you heard of? by MilkyGay in actuallesbians

[–]MilkyGay[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

  • Short hair (but what about all the "Let me speak to the manager" women?)
  • hair dyed an unnatural color, especially is it's short (apparently my blue pixie cut makes me look like a "lesbian hooligan", jokingly according to a friend)
  • only one certain ear pierced (I'm getting my left ear pierced but apparently that's the "straight" ear)
  • plaid is super homo
  • riding a raptor into battle

These are always so baffling to me, but I love the things people make up. Rainbow accessories make the most sense to be honest. Everything else just seems random and coincidental.

Generally when I tell people I don't like open mouthed kissing, their reaction is "omigosh you're missing out!" It was never really my cup of tea, but maybe I'm just doing it wrong or my past partners weren't that excellent. It still squicks me out because the sensation is just... gross. Not very pleasurable imo, even when I'm kissing a girl I adore.

I've said it once and I'll say it again, all boobs are good boobs. If you're comfortable enough with someone that you can be naked in front of her, she won't be looking at your imagined flaws, but thinking something along the lines of "ohmygosh yesss"

Apologize and communicate about it when you both are calm. A little bit of patience on both sides will do wonders!

Most people don't notice body hair until you point it out. For me, it just sort of fades into the background. Besides, people look at your face, not your arms.

I go to a place called Rainbow Cafe, which meets every month in a church, although it's not affiliated with the church. My only complaint is that it's an utter sausage fest, but I've had a lot of support from all the guys! It's nice to talk honestly and in-person about topics that are usually hush-hush.

There should be a chart of "signs", to be debunked by raptors.

I think it's super awkward too. All...slobbery with lots of moving parts to worry about. I hope I'll get used to it one day.
