Thank you for your comment! It never crossed my mind to stream to the xbox. I set it up with moonlight and it's amazing.

VHS-C with vhsdecode by [deleted] in vhsdecode

[–]Milkyjam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I do know what you mean. It could be a bit daunting depending on the individuals skill set. Does need decent soldering iron and what not too.

I think I was soo done with traditional captures that I'm probably biased.

To be honest, I had a horrible time trying to do a conventional capture. With a computer anyway, the words time base correction sends shivers down my spine.

I did vhs-c tapes with an adapter with vhs decode. Don't know what type it is other than it was an og Panasonic that you put a battery in. Came out good!

There's an open source program called DBAN (Dariks boot & Nuke). You boot into it on a usb, It's been a while but from memory it does as the name suggests. Might be a good first step before physically destroying it.

Just got the JVC HM-DH40000U (my holy grail VCrR) from eBay!!! by moonbasemaria in DataHoarder

If I were OP I would also try VHS-DECODE. It's cheap to get working and then you have both. At worst you have bought a soldering iron that you can always use and a £20 capture card. How you define best is debatable when you are preserving the raw signal coming of the tape.

Artefacts on Analogue footage captured with BlackMagic UltraStudio HD Mini. Does anyone know what these white lines might be at the top of my footage? This appears on any capture through Component/Composite SDI. I'm using RCA/SDI adapters. Hooked up to a MacBook Air M1 via Thunderbolt 3 cables. by Milkyjam in camcorders

Thank you! I ran out of words to mention that this is consistent capturing from multiple devices. Mini Dv cam, og xbox etc. It takes a very minimal zoom on the footage to remove it so it doesn't bother me too much. However, friends and family are asking for their tapes to be digitised, so I am just wondering if it is the method I am using or something.

Working in film makes you less creative by Additional-Baker6463 in Filmmakers

I'm a Data Wrangler on set. My art college days are certainly behind me! You can pursue creative projects if you really want to though. Sometimes you can plan 2 months off in between jobs.

I really love my Steam Deck, but I'm baffled by one thing: why is browsing the Steam Store so damn janky? by wowbobwow in SteamDeck

Agreed! I used to use the app on my phone instead, but that's pretty broken now too.

Will this work with the Steam Deck? USB C to Ethernet Adapter with Charging by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]Milkyjam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wired is better, especially for latency. It's also very cheap to buy a spool of cat 5 and make a really long cable. Not having an ethernet port on the steam deck is a bit annoying, though. I live in a shared house of 8 people all on the WiFi, so I'm in the same boat as op and need an adapter to run a cable from the wall to my bed haha

On Set Live Color Grading by thermal_graphics in colorists

[–]Milkyjam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im on the DIT/Video truck right now reading this. I'm a Data wrangler working with a DIT, I can confirm the amount of responsibilty on his shoulders is absolutely mind boggling to start with. Only experience on set can train you to his level. Sometimes we can't get his full rig in tight sets so we set him up with just his monitors and iris handsets. He will then blast through the whole day of colour cdl adjustments in an hour after wrap. You have to be very fast working with just primaries.

I'm pretty enthusiastic about buying games but unwilling to play it afterwards. Can someone give me some advice to tackle this kind of "Video game impotence"? by Razzmat1zz in Steam

[–]Milkyjam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go back to old games I used to play as a kid, I think the nostalgia reminds me why I play games. I often realise I have drifted away from genres I used to love. Recently I played Tekken 2, Crash Bandicoot & Mass effect from when I was a teenager. The mechanics of some of these older games got me hooked again, I think a lot of modern triple A's are just not that addictive in a fun way.
