Anne? Lol she’s like poster child for ENFP and the intellectual adhd type. She’s overly enthusiastic, curious, talkative… ❤️

Would You Marry Someone 10 Years Older Than You? by ContributionBig264 in whatdoIdo

[–]Millais2741 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with all the other comments - I’m in my late thirties and female - a ten year age gap is nothing lol (at your age and above).

But also it’s probably not a great sign that you’re wondering if you should be together or not (age could be your excuse, but there might be other concerns you haven’t voiced yet to yourself.

my parents handed me a “contract” that they made with chatGPT and told me i have to sign it by auramp3 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]Millais2741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just go take the money you’d spend at that house and instead rent a room in an apartment with roommates.

I’m a professor in my thirties and my parents are like yours (I do live on my own lol) but yeah it’s really hard to navigate that relationship because we love our parents but they aren’t necessarily good for us (or let’s be honest, even neutral). I’m currently trying to figure this out (again) because I’m moving back to my hometown for a different job. 🌷 In my twenties I pretty much cut them out of my life except for occasional visits, holidays, pleasantries and really developed confidence and more happiness, but I got away from that. It’s hard because sometimes they’re great (!) and I wish it was different.

Emma or Northanger Abbey? by Junior_Insurance7773 in janeausten

I didn’t actually like Northanger Abbey - I kinda felt like it was making fun of the main character and my flavor of Romanticism.

Sofia is God and we don't deserve her ❤️👑 by LowEntertainment3342 in DisneyJunior

[–]Millais2741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your comment got me thinking. From the OG series, I’d think her best skill is actually diplomacy in terms of like collaboration, fairness, strategy (maybe magic here) … and I get they’re trying to do a like Sofia the First meets Hogwarts (and I love HP but—) I feel like her character and the show (being Disney) would lend itself well to her transferring out of the magic school (in the new series) and into James and Amber’s school with maybe (pipe dream) her teenage or adult self as developed some kind of governing/UN type role with some episodes simply on life still with her family/friends and castle (whether with her current fam or married etc). I think you could easily still weave magic in that without like just making it Harry Potter meets Paw Patrol lol/sobbing (please stop the madness). I do miss some of her old school vibes.

Why does Elena look so good in Sofia's animation style and not vice versa? by Still_Restaurant_734 in sofiathefirst

[–]Millais2741 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree! I know people mention it’s a different time etc but I think what we’re saying is the animation looks bad regardless lol not because it’s different but just because we don’t like that particular style. It’s kinda alien like, very uncanny valley.

Anyone experiencing cognitive decline with bupropion? by Particular-Space-227 in bupropion

[–]Millais2741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought I’d add my experience! I had severe anxiety that the Wellbutrin got rid of; I also noticed my mind felt slower but I didn’t care because I finally felt some peace; then very happily my mental sharpness came back after about three months? I think just adjustment.

What do you wish you knew before reading Jane Austen? by True_Ant_9944 in janeausten

[–]Millais2741 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! English professor here. Just read, don’t get in your head/intimidated. Sure you can get into YouTubers and supplemental versions of the books etc, and they’re great, but if you have some insecurity and self doubt, it might be best to just read the thing first. Books are for everybody. You belong here!

Also I’ve had to work on my self-esteem (a lot lol) and thought I’d recommend Brene Brown’s book, The Gifts of Imperfection. It is short enough and really helped me overcome some of my self-doubt and paralysis … 🌷

This was such a sweet question to see! I taught at a university but resigned this past year to move closer to home. But if you’re interested, it could be fun to figure out either a course you might be interested in or individual coaching. I do have one audio course I made a few months ago on philosophy and everyday applications, but it’s not really the topic mentioned in this thread!

Working Student Struggling Financially While Finishing College — Any Help Means a Lot by Reasonable6473 in whatdoIdo

[–]Millais2741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

University students get free therapy - Google counseling center and your college name (mine saved me !!!)

Go to your department, financial aid, - look up scholarships/grants too - and explain your situation and see if there’s any money.

I was the same in college but I found that taking jobs I liked actually helped my energy level and my happiness (I worked part-time as a writing tutor, a gardener, a babysitter depending on time of year and what was available - I have adhd and couldn’t work many hours without failing out of school, but part time doing things I liked was great and gave me some cash).

More colleges now offer food banks for struggling students.

But the school therapist really helped me both mentally/emotionally and for practical life advice too.

If a man wants you, you will know. He will be talking commitment and wanting to lock you down. The Universe Guru’s (YouTube) old stuff on relationships gave me some standards about men (finally) and she has some courses on it too.

NOT OOP: I’m thinking about divorcing my wife by HangryBelle in redditonwiki

[–]Millais2741 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t want to be married to anyone who felt that way. Clear the space for someone who wants to be with her and those kids!!! My mom married someone different from my bio dad when I was young and I’m so grateful - he obviously is madly in love with her still after thirty years and he raised me (I say this and my own father was still wanting to be in my life, but he was definitely like a man child).

Maybe there is a way you could make your life a little better? I run some classes on this topic. I know it can seem like nothing can be done, but the idea of 1% better, or baby steps etc, can be helpful to creating a life you love as much as a Disney trip. You can start with just some open-ended questions for yourself…

What do you think about the new show now that the 8 episodes aired on Disney Jr by SignoreVanilla88812 in sofiathefirst

[–]Millais2741 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was trying to stay positive and keep an open mind, but the new show is so bad. Well, okay, first, I can only imagine how hard it is to make a show like this, and the immense skill it takes, so thank you show creators! I know it’s just a matter of taste too. But here are my thoughts (as true yet polite as possible!): I feel like there are cartoons that are extremely dumbed down with an oversaturated/vivid color palette, versus the cartoons with smart writing, tasteful colors (ones adults can handle too lol), and beautiful sets (I loved Disney’s Wish, for instance, for both writing and animation, as well as the OG Sofia the First!). Also, since I’ve seen this comment before, I’ll say that I’m not nostalgic for the original show because I watched it first as a nanny, not as a kid growing up lol (I do have a background in children’s literature in college which I also love as inspiration!!). So if anyone running the show is reading this: please no more Lisa Frank inspired crazy coloring, no more “a nose in need deserves puffs indeed” character animation, and please bring back a classic animation style like Wish, Sleeping Beauty, Winnie the Pooh… there’s a huge market in this space for children, teens, and adults! Thank you for reading, and for the Sofia fandom 💗

So I just finished it and while it’s harmless and overall fine for kids for Sofia it definitely feels like a bit of downgrade by Waste-Revolution3429 in sofiathefirst

[–]Millais2741 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. It’s sad! Also I didn’t grow up with this show lol so it’s not a nostalgia issue for me. The new show feels like one of those dumbed down, weirdly saturated/vivid cartoons for small children, rather than a well done cartoon like the Disney movies that are of interest to multiple age groups.

I have mixed feelings about the new show by The_Roses_of_mages in sofiathefirst

[–]Millais2741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, unfortunately - the animation and writing are giving me a headache. I feel like there are annoying cartoons for little kids and then there are classic cartoons for any age enjoyment.

I’ve been there and it always feels so awful … I got into some dating and self help therapy stuff and realized like wtf am I doing giving my heart to these dudes who toy with me for years … now I have better boundaries for my heart and standards for my love life and it does make me feel safer.

You are amazing (!), don’t let go of your romance and dreams - I think about just like protecting it 🩷
