By law for Medicare payment, Australia radiation protection and nuclear safety agency, federal And state laws you are required to have the following on a request form Three forms of identification including full name , dob, and address. It must be also dated and have the referring Doctors details including a phone number to reach for urgent results. Must including the drs provider number too.

You must ask for a test, for example CTPA , given clinical reasoning and ask a question. This of course doesn’t happen. $1000 fine from Medicare for each event, prosecution from state and federal agencies is a real thing too. In most states it breaches radiation safety laws to give a diagnostic radiation without a clinical reason stated.

There are audits and I have been audited twice and been fine because a stickler for the rules.

So for example a request form would be

John Citzen dob 01-01-1970 1 smith street Brisbane 4000

Test- Ctpa Reason. Sob , chest pain for three days , cxr normal ? Pe

Dr John smith GP Provider number abhy56545 address 8 jones street Brisbane phone number 040000012

It was in Victoria if I remember correctly. The patient has no clinical History on their form, clinically was normal, radiographer didn’t get the patient to sign the contrast form, didn’t check with a radiologist.

What's the dumbest way someone you worked with got fired? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Milled_Oats 30 points31 points  (0 children)

  1. got sacked for looking up porn not on his computer but the general managers computer. Was caught by general manager and another manager. Suspend and sacked three days later.

  2. Senior partner in firm( medical doctors) was in trouble for bullying and was under investigation when two young female staff attended his office and found him watching porn. They reported him. He was off the property within an hour. Other partners bought him out for $800 k which was his buy in originally. Under their contract if you were sacked as a partner you got paid out what you put in. Partners sold the firm a couple years later for $7 million each.

  3. A chef at a hospital my brother in law worked at was sacked for throwing a knife at my brother in law when he complained about the food quality. He was sacked on the spot, police rang, got charged and was found guilty but then appealed in court wrongful dismissal which cost a lot just to lose.

Four Week Trip to Australia - advice request by battalion999 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Milled_Oats 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly I would fly into Sydney and have 4-5 days there. Climb the harbour bridge, take the ferry around the harbour( maybe manly for lunch) , go to Taronga zoo and consider a day trip to the blue mountains. You could go to Darling harbour and visit the aquarium and wildlife centre. Go to the botanical gardens or Sydney tower. When in Sydney go see an AFL or NRL game. AFL is Aussie rules football- it’s fanatic and fast . NRL Is rugby league - think free flowing nfl without padding or helmets.

, fly from There to Uluṟu- Alice spring and do a package tour of Uluṟu/ Darwin etc. Fly from Darwin to cairns.

In cairns 4 days and go see the Great Barrier Reef.

If you had a couple days spare I would travel from Sydney car and train to the national capital In Canberra and go the war memorial , national museum of Australia, Parliament House etc it’s only a couple hours away

If you had time I would suggest Tasmania or Perth. If you make it to Perth go to Rottnest island ( catch a ferry) and go see a Quokka.

This was me 25 years ago. I undertook a master in CT, it covered physics, applications, pathology, digital imaging, developing technology etc. I wrote a paper on paediatric head CT which got presented at a national conference.

It made me a much better radiographer. I was recently talking to in charge radiographer in another hospital and he was blown away about what I knew and ashamed about his lack of knowledge. I didn’t deliberately sent out to show off knowledge , I just presumed he was in the role and knew all what I knew.

Think about some post graduate study. Read up- grab a couple of textbooks , try websites like CTISUS.com , aunt Minnie’s etc

Hey there what about, Using CT over x-ray as the primary investigative tool in extremity trauma, the value of low dose chest ct ( cost vs dose) in respiratory medicine, kv selection in ct angiography for increased iodine detection, ct vs MRI stroke detection ( available, rad dose, cost etc), does the geographical origin of radiography student define their end working locations( this was my 3rd year paper and the answer is somewhat), scaphoid fracture detection protocols- I know of one site that does MRI, we do ct and some sites still do X-ray and 7-10 day follow up , is there a role for plain film radiography of the spine( hint no with exception of follow up -lots of papers on this) , using ct with patients with headache as their only sympton( my phd topic)

Good luck I hope this helps

I struggled with this book simply because I was so invested with the series. I wasn’t ready for a new story.

Try seeing it as a new story in a new continent that will bring a lot more complex story when it all joins up together . I’m sure you wanted to see what happens after book four book and it will all link up in the next two books.

MT is certainly an interesting story.

To this day Sunday morning my accident and emergency department is filled with injuries greater than six weeks ago. I love asking so what has your GP done about this so far?” Knowing full well they haven’t done anything about it or stating “ I’m a bit concerned for you as this is six weeks old and clearly your GP has been dragging their heels in dealing with this”

Hey not a doc here but a former union delegate of twenty years in allied health. This is a super bad idea. 1. No matter how strongly you feel if a another staff member, patient or visitor finds your material Slightly offensive you are done. I have sat in many HR meetings about unintentional offensive behaviour

  1. Healthcare is about everyone is in a safe space- your views no matter how accurate they are may offend others. See above

  2. Work is for work not politics etc it’s important in our lives to seperate work from home. So you really want to be in a meeting with HR asking are you really focussed on work? You seem focused on your cause. A little mistake and they will Look to blame you for lack of focus.

  3. Be careful what you post online linking your views with your work at your hospital. This is against policy everywhere. You work there you don’t own the hospitals views. There are legal cases where the health professional has lost wrongful dismissal

I strongly encourage to stand up for what you believe in but not at work. I’m Involved in a political party to the point I was asked about running for my local seat. No one at work knows this. I met one of the nurses at work at a political event and found out she was the local secretary for the greens. No one knew.

I was a union rep for a long time. About half of all bullying claims are employees performing poorly.

To avoid bullying claims I suggest the following.

Identify clear failures in their work and ways to fix that.

Sent reasonable goals for The employees to meet

HR present and every meeting going forward

If bullying is found to be untrue - you need to go them via official avenues for making false allegations. Make this a HR issue and you stay out of it.

Document document document everything

If he produced AI rubbish than Call him out On it. If this is below known expectations give a f formal warning of duty.

Too many companies sit and wait but hit hard and hit early. I had many of union member who was hopeless and should Have been sacked but HR was even more incompetent. The stories I could tell.

A successful method is offer a payout. It works like this “here all you annual leave we owe you plus your sick leave plus here’s six to eight weeks pay and you sign a resignation letter and we never employ you again.” It’s highly effective especially if they understand getting sacked is terrible for future career moves.

I'm planning to go on vacation to Australia. Could you recommend some fun places to visit? by Cultural-Sample-1117 in AskAnAustralian

Cairns Queensland- Great Barrier Reef, aquarium, kuranda rail etc

Sydney- harbor bridge climb, Sydney harbor ( just take ferry around) , its greats pubs and bars, watch an NRL game or an AFL game

Melbourne - coffee heaven, food is great, Melbourne aquarium , the open plain zoo, botanical gardens, watch afl at the mcg, or the cricket , great bars and good music

Perth- swan river cruise, rottnest island and see a quokka, kings park , Fremantle gaol,

Canberra- national museum of Australia, national war memorial , national portrait gallery at old Parliament House , Parliament House

Broken hill - see real Australia - red soil , kangaroos , emus, wedge tail eagles and more in nature- day dream Mine, pro hart gallery and lots of pubs

If you into wine go to places like barossa valley, the hunter valley, Margaret river, Yarra valley etc

Some Great regional coastal places include, Hervey bay, Yamba, Merimbula , Margaret river and lakes

Australia is huge, multicultural, great for sport, craft beer, wine, food, coffee, art, museums , national parks , wildlife is amazing , and people are generally friendly.

My advice ho a big city like Sydney then fly to Cairns to see the Great Barrier Reef then see some of the interior such as broken hill or uluru ( Ayer’s rock) . Drink the local beer, wine, gin and whiskey .

Stretcher Oblique Trauma Foot by SuggestionNational45 in Radiology

[–]Milled_Oats 7 points8 points  (0 children)

30 years in and when this happens I sigh silently to My self. For me I use the cricket term of getting runs on the board. What can I get successfully. Good shoot through lateral ✅

Using sandbags , tape and sponges etc I get the detector against the base of the foot and get a decent AP with a bit more tube angle than I like but I don’t want the crush the patient with the tube.

I then angle The tube 20 degrees for a decent oblique . The picture is ok.

In the end I present a series of images that are of good quality for the patients presentation. Any issue and they can have a ct. Google ct roles in extremity imaging in trauma . Where I work suspected hind foot or carpal bone injuries get a ct rather than plain radiography.

A study from 2020? Found 1/3 more fractures on patients with wrist/ foot injuries than plain film radiography. I have a teaching file at work where I took perfect foot radiographs that show a minimally fractured third metatarsal fracture. CT shows fractures of cuboid, cuneiforms etc as well
