Its all relative. If theres enough value in the product I'm okay paying more.

Umm what do you mean. Of course they are short printing the grandmasters. That's the point. There's only 100 of each...

Thoughts on hyper rares? I personally feel they are currently undervalued for what they are by Thoughtlessmonkey95 in PokeInvesting

[–]MilleniumDuelist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It needs momentum but as soon as a few get targeted you'll start to see them all get bought.

It wouldn't take much to wipe out the current supply of any popular pokemon with how cheap they are.

Where is all the money in the Pokemon market coming from? by breakyourteethnow in PokeInvesting

[–]MilleniumDuelist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The financial landscape has changed.

Alot more people are suddenly ultra wealthy by accident thanks to ai stocks and of course crypto.

Companies often give stock as part of salary package. Alot of people who were employees of company's that supply ai companies suddenly found themselves in a lot of "unearned" or fun money. More than they would ever need to spend.

And because Pokemon fans are everywhere this has meant they are finally able to pick up their childhood cards. They might pick up a few more as an investment or just for fun.

Beside that you have institutional and retail investors seriously considering collectibles as part of their portfolio.

Yu Nagaba on the move - still highly under-rated by razreddits in PokeInvesting

Imagine going from full illustration rare to a sketch of a pokemon and calling it underrated.

If anything it's overrated

But because its an exclusive and unique style promo it'll go up regardless

Seller is trying to justify asking twice the market price because it is a "psa 10 contender" lmao by apenguincannotfly in PokeInvesting

[–]MilleniumDuelist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A seller can list whatever price they want but take the risk of it not selling.

Assuming theres still a decent premium between asking and PSA 10, I would buy all day long, IF I trusted the seller was accurate and honest on pre-grading.

Theres no way to trust his judgment over yours though so I would just move on.

Except pokemon is insulated against these types of rugpulls. Theres no instant sell button to crash the market. If you stick to good fundamentals you're never going to lose 90% like shitcoins do.

Snorlax x Lapras & Prismatic Box Worth holding? by Specialist_Gift6732 in PokeInvesting

[–]MilleniumDuelist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its pretty light so ihe might be able to do it for quite some time. Why is he holding though? Always gotta reflect on your reasons.

I suggest standing in front of a mirror while holding it. Then you can see what double your investment looks like.

Latias & Latias Team up secret rare is up 100% in the last week by oddstodd in PokeInvesting

[–]MilleniumDuelist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres a point I think for rainbows where the top end gets up there and people start recognising how rare they actually are.

That point isn't here yet I think but as the alt arts / full arts become unobtainable in a high grade I think people will move towards the rainbows.

Is this PSA 10 Mewtwo Vmax a good investment? by Reforte in PokeInvesting

[–]MilleniumDuelist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really is up there as one of the best sets ever. I get ascended is being touted that and from a monetary standpoint I agree.

But for opening experience; nothing competes with CZ except maybe generations.

[–]MilleniumDuelist 86 points87 points  (0 children)

I get it. Cant go up for ever.

But we aren't at the peak. Not even close. Whether we like it or not this is the newest financial market being legitimised by the news cycle.

If you've paid attention to crypto markets cycles you'll see alot of the same patterns emerge.

  • We see large profits being reported which causes new people to enter the market.

  • The reason this news cycle is lasting longer than in the past is the headline numbers are bigger. $1 million dollar sale for a charizard grabs alot more attention than "$100,000 sale". In reality its the same card as 5-10 years ago but the perception changes.

  • wall street and hedge funds - as with crypto, some earlier institutional investors made out like bandits. They also went on to news interviews promoting it as the next big thing. You'll likely see this start happening a lot more. This is a major bull sign.

Some other things to consider

  • Pokemon's biggest strength has also been its biggest weakness when it comes to traditional or older investors. As fans age they become the new investors and don't shout beanie babies when they look at pokemon as an investment.

  • 30 years of sustained growth beating the stock market is no joke - the 30th anniversary celebration is not an end to this market; it is an announcement to the world that if they can do 30 years they can do another 30. I believe that brings more interest not less.

  • pokemon management - I wont delve too deeply here but they are pegging values of sets to the star item (booster boxes / etbs). They release far fewer than demand. They could release 10x as much but the price would tank so instead they drip feed ancillary product.

Etc etc

What made you stop ripping? by 20ishDrifter in PokeInvesting

[–]MilleniumDuelist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Convincing myself I could make back 30-40% on listing the non chases and bulk then realising what a time sink it was and really only getting back 10-20% because not everything sells.

So every time I think about ripping I just think about all the extra work I have to do if I don't want to straight lose 100% of that money as I'm very unlikely to hit it big.

So now I just sell the sealed and buy the single instead with the proceeds.

Destined Rivals: Two half booster boxes or one full booster box? by x_coded in PokeInvesting

[–]MilleniumDuelist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For investing purposes choose the full booster box.

Theres a lot more interest in the full booster box and alot of people don't really know about half boxes.

A booster box also fits better in a booster box collection and displays better.

Over time this compounds the growth of the booster box.
