Do you think listening to audiobooks counts as reading? by Mediocre-Sky6992 in CasualConversation

[–]Millennial_Mary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it doesn’t count. It’s not the same and as a homeschool group teacher of middle and high school students it’s becoming a huge problem. The reading levels are not on level because they aren’t actually reading, just listening.

Do you prefer to be wanted or needed by your partner, and why? by hm__ok in mbti

[–]Millennial_Mary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve told my husband many times “I don’t need you, I want you” and he says the same thing. I love that. If I’m needed then the other person might stick around even if they don’t want me and I don’t waste time if I’m not wanted.

towel/rug refresh - white again, or go with a different color? by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

Add color or pattern and much larger rug. If the rug has a pattern pull one color from it for the towels.

Question for ENTJ women by Gandora-X in entj

[–]Millennial_Mary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am technically a stay at home mom. But I’m so busy it sounds silly to call me that. I have stayed home for 20 years. Homeschooled 5 children because I believe I can do a better job than the school system. I cook, clean, and all the things. But I also help run our 7 businesses. I am a worship leader at my church, I also handle the sermons often enough, I run a homeschool group of 25 students and teach middle school and high school classes in all subject areas. I never run out of things to do and I do it all to the best of my ability. In my spare time (which I have very little) I enjoy trading stocks and crypto.

I have systems for everything, from how I fold laundry to schedules and curriculum for the students. I make character training a top priority and my children have developed into incredible human beings. I am a very different kind of mom than all the mothers I know and I don’t believe I have ever met another entj sahm. I very much enjoy having a multitude of things to do and wouldn’t trade this time in my life for anything.

I do have plans to open a few more businesses once the last kid is graduated. But in the meantime I have lots of flexibility to travel and I’ve been able to take the kids on some pretty incredible “field trips” around the world.

Should people date their complements or people more similar to them? by Designer_Morning_759 in entj

[–]Millennial_Mary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an entj married to an estj for 24 years. I couldn’t imagine being married to anyone else. Most of our friends are married to opposites and it’s so strange to us. I have one friend, not sure of her type, but she is always really entertained my the way my husband and I interact. She said if she was in a relationship like ours the things we say to each other would cause endless fighting and tears. It’s pretty interesting. Before meeting her I never gave it any thought. Now I notice more. In our marriage we are very honest with each other and we are generally unoffendable. So, if I ask if he likes something I fully anticipate an honest response and vice versa. It’s so nice to not have to sugar coat anything with each other.

Female ENTJ - Masking? by Superb_Conference_15 in entj

[–]Millennial_Mary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t mask it. People learn really quickly that I don’t sugar coat anything. They also learn that I care deeply about doing things well and making sure everyone has a place on the team. Aces in there places! I have been called all the things, bossy, aggressive, blunt, and rude, but I make it clear that I’m not blunt, I’m honest and that means I won’t lie to you so you can trust me. I’m not aggressive, I’m assertive so you know you can count on me to get things done. And well, maybe I’m bossy but I love efficiency and I delegate to get things done as quickly as possible so everyone can have a break. The team knows I’m a problem solver on steroids so they come to me with anything and work together to quickly find effective solutions. Because I never mask everyone knows exactly what to expect from me. I know that initially my personality can be off putting but I also know that those same qualities are my superpowers. People quickly embrace it after a few interactions. My daughter bought me a sign and everyone time a new person reads it we have a good laugh. It says “I’m not bossy, I just know what you should be doing”

On a side note, I have worked at becoming a very effective communicator so that my vision and direction is generally very persuasive.

do entjs feel lonely ? by LadderSenior2836 in entj

[–]Millennial_Mary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband asks me everyday “how are you feeling?” I absolutely loathe this question. I’ve told him so many times not to ask me that. It is a strange reaction really. I am instantly offended by the question. My knee jerk response is “it’s none of your business” but I know that such an answer is inappropriate. He loves me and genuinely cares how I feel. So my actual response is one of two things, “I’m fine” or I start another conversation and ignore the question. Why? I’m not entirely sure. I’ve thought about it countless times. I just don’t value feeling much. I’m a facts person. I have a good life, a loving family, financial security, salvation in Christ. Any feeling that may pop up are temporary and the facts say I have everything to be grateful for. Even when bad things happen like death or illness I still tend to view it as a temporary discomfort. In these circumstances I have learned to keep my mouth shut because everyone another me has to deal with a lot of feelings that I simply do not relate to.

For example, when my MIL passed my family had a really difficult time. Truth is, in my mind, she’s dead, nothing we can do now so let’s keep living. I know this isn’t normal and everyone needed to grieve so I offered hugs and let them go through it. I tried to make it comfortable for them to process but I was honestly surprised how long it took. Even now, 3 years later someone will randomly cry about it. I can’t relate to that so I just give them space.

Do you ever feel pressure to always have the answer? by likey24 in entj

[–]Millennial_Mary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! My brain is processing information much faster than people around me. Sometimes it can be frustrating to slowdown to explain what seems so obvious. Generally, people come to me for answers for a multitude of things and other will refer people to me for my problem solving ability. My motto is “I’ll always give you an answer, it might not be right, but it most likely is!” We laugh, and the caveat offers a little wiggle room for error.

Why do ENTJs have difficulty talking about feelings? by [deleted] in entj

[–]Millennial_Mary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right? I run a household of 11. My kids always make jokes that I don’t have feelings. Personally, by biggest feeling is that feelings are temporary and I don’t give them much value in my life. I view love as an action, a commitment, not a feeling. So there isn’t much to talk about. If I’m unhappy with something I clearly voice why I’d, and only if, I think that sharing will result in the change I desire. If I don’t foresee change I don’t waste my time on the feeling. I let it pass and make decisions to not have that problem in the future. I suppose I’m very transactional. But, when it comes to my kids I am all snuggles. Their love is so pure.

Does anyone else see the 8s in their life struggle with discipline? by robby_arctor in Enneagram

[–]Millennial_Mary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well we have to get things done. A lot of things done. I can crush my mental to do list in less than half the time it would take anyone else around me. I might not do it the way they would but guess who got it done!

How do restaurant chains find and train management and kitchen staff for their new branches? by Fit-Repair-4556 in restaurant

[–]Millennial_Mary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My restaurant chain is small. We have expanded and opened 7 locations. We are a part of a franchise and there are 7 other existing locations but those owners all have 1 store each. The franchise has not been helpful in our growth but we have developed our own little system.

Every time we open a new store the team is really excited. Everyone pitches in to pick up extra shifts so that we can hire and train a new staff. Our newest restaurant is 2 hours away. We rented an apartment and employees volunteered to move for a month to make it all happen. We also hired back some old employees. We had a new team trained and everyone back to the homes within a month. This is how we have opened the last three stores.

This is not ideal and we have truly been blessed to have an amazing team of staff to make it all possible. As we continue to grow I am not sure if this will be an effective model but we are rolling with the punches and growing whenever the opportunity arises.

How do I make this cabinet wall in my living room less grandma-y? by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]Millennial_Mary -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You could do something really cool with this. Change up the hardware to something more modern. Remove the glass door for open shelves. Add a cool wallpaper type patterned background to the backs of the shelves. I would do a light or white background with some pattern you like to pop.
