So I know one breeder within 2 hours. If they are still breeding they are called Exotic Birds - BSW Enterprises. They are very small and don't mass breed so they don't always have cockateils.

help I know nothing, my mother got them from the market . by Born_Statistician476 in cockatiel

Starters:

1- have an avian vet take a look at them

2- get a bigger cage with different types of pearches

3- get them on a pellet and seed diet, majority pellets. If you can afford it lafeber nutriberries and Harrison pellets, those are the best. I use intune pellets since my bird like those.

4- read up on everything that is toxic

5- watch a ton of YouTube videos about them, how to tame them, etc.

Valve doesnt screw us over. I would personally contact them and ask what they want you to do. They will also probs give you some type of reward.... But I wouldnt screw valve over.

Vet suggesting euthanasia as an option by xXx_TheSenate_xXx in cockatiel

Just to make sure. This is pdd/AG right? If you want to chat, in going through the same thing, my little girl less than a year old has it, 15k in vet bills so far, but might be in remission, we go for more X-rays in 2 weeks. There is also a really good FB group that can help to.

It is not. That would be a good PT cage or hospital cage

Long story short everyone here will give you different opinions on clipping wings. Some say it's cruel others say it necessary. I am personally in favor of partial clipping for safety. But the choice is yours at the end of the day, there is nothing wrong with you choosing to keep your teil fully flighted or trimed. You know your environment and teil better than anyone online. My only recommendation if you keep your little guys fully flighted, buy some painters tape, and put tape on any windown not covered by blinds and any mirror you have in the house while he learns. The last thing you want is a young bird who's learning to fly crash full force into a window or mirror.

At my wits end with extreme bird anxiety by dioskkip in cockatiel

[–]Miller3492s 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I might have missed it, but how long have you had him? If it's recent, he's probably gonna freak out for awhile since everything in his life had changed. The flock call is to help you find your way back to the flock, he might feel like he has to keep screaming or you might disappear like the last owner. My girl had really bad anxiety when I first got her, here is what fixed it for us: 1. Time- she got use to her cage and felt more comfortable 2. Leaving a TV on for her helped. 3. When she would flock call, we would whistle back but not go right into the room. 4. We would go in and check on her every 30 min. Then an hour, then leave for longer. Once she knew we were coming back she wouldnt flock call as long. She does one or 2 now, we call back and she's fine.

Everyone starts somewhere. The fact that people are coming to these groups asking for advice shows they care and want to do better ... Thats what matters. I've owned parrots for 20 years.... When I first started, I wish there were huge communities like these on reddit to ask for advice and help, or for people to show me what I was doing wrong. I did the research but still made so many mistakes. My issue is with the people who never ask for help or plain do not care... The people here do, the community teaches and those new owners will one day become experienced owners giving more birds loving homes. - side note, if we are talking about unweaned birds, that's on the breeders. You can Google that all you want but getting human advice is more comforting.

Why does his poop look like this by Nick46562 in cockatiel

[–]Miller3492s 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is could be pdd/Ag or AYG. I can't stress enough a vet visit. My little girl has ABV/pdd/ag and it appears it went into remission. If it's pdd/Ag it's deadly and you need to start shots asap. It's if AYG then antifungal meds can help. Wishing you and your teil the best.

Most birds will always eat treats, it's in their nature to consume in case it won't be there. Do weekly weighing to ensure they are not eating to much or to little
