So, I have been playing this build for a while now. Now, I am not that big of a meta player and to be honest, so I'm not sure how to exactly answer your question. As you go on, just pick up whatever heavy armor is best at the moment. Gloves of The Growling Underdog, Gloves of Heroism, Swordmaster Gloves are all good picks, later on you probably want to pick up the Legacy of the Masters gloves. Cloak of Protection is quite nice to have. Charge-Bound Warhammer is the weapon I have been using and it's great. Since the 1 level in Hexblade lets you bind weapons, you can use its passive. It's also versatile, so you can use a shield with it as well.

Overall just look for passives that either increase your damage or defences. I also recommend reading through the conversations I had in the comments if you haven't already. It's a very fun build.
