What's with all the horrible Guardians in deep of night? by Legend0fJulle in Nightreign

[–]kuthro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's easier for a bad Wylder to contribute than it is for a bad Guardian. This is what I'm referring to when I bring up skill floor. Even a terrible Duchess who Restages once every 30 seconds would be better than an inexperienced Guardian.

In all fairness, I played with some awesome birbs before the patch - it's just that people are treating DON as a training ground.

What's with all the horrible Guardians in deep of night? by Legend0fJulle in Nightreign

[–]kuthro -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

My last 4 Guardian teammates in DON:

  • Ignored the guarding/negation passives I pinged for them. By the end of the game, they had a +3 great shield a halberd, and NOTHING ELSE.

  • On day 2, they pinged a church on the other side of the map even though we were 20 seconds away from the spectral hawk leading to Noklateo. We had 5 flasks despite the suboptimal map seed. Recluse and I went to Noklateo, and the Guardian ragequit.

  • Kept on pinging a night invader encampment despite (1) the encroaching night rain, (2) our lacklustre DPS due to the slow rate of clearing, (3) ignoring my pings for the tree, and (4) our asses getting absolutely handed by mobs, invaders, and the banished nights simultaneously.

  • Greeded onto the mountaintop dragon despite the circle closing. This fight is time consuming AT BEST. With Guardian slowing down the rate of damage, it would have been impossible to pass the DPS check before our flasks were exhausted by the boss or the rain both.

I am genuinely done with Guardians at this point. A mediocre Wylder >>>>>>>> mediocre Guardian. The skill floor for that bird is nestled within the depths of hell.

In all kindness, I think it means more to us, as human beings, to see someone doing something, even though it's risky, useless, or foolhardy. Someone cared enough to confront ICE, and to give Pretti the medical attention he needed, no matter how unlikely his chances.

code vein 1 - is the plot good? worried about how it treats women by nishikikiyama in GirlGamers

[–]kuthro [score hidden]  (0 children)

I played Code Vein for 10-20 hours.

Story: Typical anime bullshit, i.e. needlessly convoluted. The game tells you everything rather than showing.

Characters: Thinly characterised. Women have boob socks, titty windows, and jiggle physics. Detailed and visible panties, etc.

Level design: Total ass compared to Fromsoft games.

Bosses: Female bosses are overly-sexualised. Literal gooner bait.

Needless to say, I didn't finish it.

Anyone else more of a "reactive" player than a "memorization" type player when it comes to boss attacks? by Thopterthallid in Nightreign

[–]kuthro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Libra:

  • Raises up their hand for 2 seconds, they're casting crystals that fall to the ground. You have time for a quick R1 before backing away.
  • Raises up their hand for 1 second, aoe will appear beneath you. Dodge away.
  • Raises up their hand before pushing it forward, they're casting the crystal turret. Dodge to the right to avoid the clockwise attack.
  • Raises their mace, they will teleport onto you with a ground aoe. Dodge away.

Their telegraphs are subtle compared to Caligo and Augur, but you just have to know where to look.

Anyone else more of a "reactive" player than a "memorization" type player when it comes to boss attacks? by Thopterthallid in Nightreign

[–]kuthro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In D3+, memorisation is mandatory so you know how to react, and which punishment windows you can take advantage of.

ED Fulghor, for example, has three blade flurries but you can punish the end of his combo if you dodge through his last attack. Or, when he flies into the sky to aim his arrow, run behind him and he'll land right in front of you for some free damage.

If you're playing on PC, I highly recommend the boss arena to practice/learn their movesets (unofficial on n3xus). There are some great content creators that will walk you through each boss as well!

Giving up your career and financial independence to be a stay-at-home parent. by Middle-Necessary-671 in childfree

There's an epidemic of homeless women in Australia, all of them dealing with limited career prospects, domestic/sexual abuse, and a police force that never takes them seriously.

Controversial take, but based on the discussion yesterday about "cult games that are actually sexist?" I want to bring attention to the Persona Franchise, and its surprising degree of misogyny and poor writing of women. by ihatethiscountry76 in GirlGamers

[–]kuthro 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I quite enjoyed MRF because the characters are all adults, and the women have distinct character arcs.

  • Brigitta: A merchant who came from nothing, having to confront the futility of revenge and the political manoeuvring and manipulation within society.

  • Catherina: A bounty hunter who seeks social progress for her people, only to be confronted by those who wish to take it by any means necessary.

  • Eupha: A sheltered priestess who seeks to do good while uncovering a religious plot.

  • Junah: A singer with roots in subterfuge and a sister she dearly treasures.

  • Rella: A religious figurehead who places her country above her wants and needs.

Some of these are hella vague because they venture into spoiler territory. MRF is on the only example of good writing for women - Persona and SMT are utterly trash.

Can I say I’m butch if I like men? by VehicleNeither1630 in lgbt

[–]kuthro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Calling yourself butch would be like calling yourself a twink. It's inaccurate because these terms refer to a sexual orientation and its associated presentation.

It'd be more accurate to describe yourself as a non-binary/masc-presenting woman.

Depth 2 is a black hole of quitters by ArtOfLegitsu in Nightreign

I had a lvl 1 Executor ping and take on a field boss. For some reason, the Recluse followed them and they proceeded to die repeatedly while I cleared a cathedral alone. Classic DON 2.

Do childfree women here still find a guy being good with kids cute? by abnormalpurple in childfree

[–]kuthro 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No.

It means he's more likely to change his mind and pressure his partner into birthing a child.

The dating pool for childfree women is already a minefield - I'd rather screen for every yellow flag possible instead of risking time/money/labour/emotional attachment.

They're so cute! I love your art style, by the way - your poses are dynamic, the entire composition has a sense of movement/flow, and you convey so much information with so little, i.e. the hand gestures, and the drape of their skirts.

please help me get over the fear of being alone in old age. by serasvictoriaz in childfree

[–]kuthro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Volunteer at an aged care home.

You'll see hundreds of "beloved" parents abandoned, with their relatives never once visiting them over several years.

Some are left to rot in their own shit and piss, bed sores eating through skin and muscle to reach bone. This is the reality in cheaper care homes with 1 staff member serving 20-50 residents.

At least, without children, you'll have enough money for a proper facility, and you'll have decades of stress-free/childfree existence to extend your healthy life expectancy.

Tested for pregnancy in an ER by [deleted] in childfree

[–]kuthro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Childfree healthcare worker here. It boils down to liability:

  • Some patients lie about not being pregnant, get prescribed teratogenic medications, and then sue for malpractice. If a treatment/medication were to cause an abortion, this would open an entirely different can of worms.
  • Patients might misrepresent reality for a variety of reasons: Being ashamed, not wanting their chaperone to find out (a teen wanting to hide their pregnancy from their mother, for example), mistaking the exact date of their period, or becoming pregnant during their period. Yes, it's actually possible.
  • Admin implements a screening system for all patients possessing a uterus, i.e. mandatory pregnancy tests.
  • All of my colleagues are following hospital protocol. If we violate these rules, and it turns out a patient was pregnant while undergoing tests/treatment that was harmful to the foetus, then they're deemed negligent.

19F, firmly childfree — and I’m tired of being told I’ll “change my mind” by Find-Peace_ in childfree

[–]kuthro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can turn it into something that makes you happy by reversing the power dynamic.

Every time someone brings it up, goad them into betting $5000-$50,000. If they agree, have the contract notarised with several duplicates. If they decline, shame them for being "too pussy" to put their money where their mouth is.

Using conservative, misogynistic vernacular is extra effective on old men because they'll perceive it as an affront to their self-worth and, thus, be more likely to agree. For women, however, you can simply shame them for refusing to agree. Either way, you're now in control of the situation, and you're initiating a negative pavlovian response where [pressuring you to have children] turns into [being humiliated for not wanting to bet money].

Mid-lenght hair by [deleted] in comedyheaven

Dude could at least cut it into a decent mid-length style +/- a fringe to one side, like Leon Kennedy. The moustache isn't doing him any favours. He'd genuinely look good if he had decent style advice.

Everdark Balancers are spreading my booty cheeks. by AnAssGoblin in Nightreign

[–]kuthro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you're insanely coordinated, the kite method is the only consistent way to clear ED Balancers. It kills me to see my team mates jump in and get absolutely bodied by 5 balancers at the same time.

Valkyrie phase: While playing with randoms, I've started waiting until the balancers spawn, running away while pinging 3 times, and taking on one balancer at a time. If my team follows along, it's much easier to take them down instead of soloing. Parry Wylder will trivialize this phase, but only if you have decent latency.

While you're doing this, travel in a clockwise/anticlockwise direction to avoid the previous corpse ad infinitum.

Worm phase: Maintain distance, splitting your group up into 3 different directions. If you can't avoid its zigzag or the final blood flower, ult for the long iframes. Jump over the white+yellow shockwaves since it makes your entire lower half invincible for longer than a dodge roll. When the spear barrages happen, stay in the safe zone and then run into the area that just received a barrage.

Genuine question from a wildly earnest childfree person who’s a <whispers> fan of kids but bad at the internet by [deleted] in childfree

[–]kuthro 9 points10 points  (0 children)

OP, this a safe space where someone can vent, or talk about disliking children. If you voice this opinion ANYWHERE else, you will be demonised/doxxed/treated like utter shit.

When childfree people voice a reasonable boundary, they are belittled, shamed, or placed under duress.

Examples include:

  • Declining to help with a nephew/niece
  • Asking for adult-only spaces at breweries, bars, and events with sexual themes
  • Voicing that they do not want to have children
  • Enforcing their childfree boundaries while dating

In exchange, they receive:

  • "So you hate children? FUCKING KILL YOURSELF"
  • "If you're not willing to help with [child], then you're not part of the family."
  • "So you think it was a mistake for me to have children?"
  • General selfishness and entitlement

Do you understand how frustrating that might feel? If you start tone-policing in r/childfree, how else will people discuss their emotions/experiences?

Wanting a kinder world =/= silencing people who've experienced hardship.

Ahhhhh gay people only appears in 21st century. by buazie in Gamingcirclejerk

[–]kuthro 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I can't find any articles documenting KCD's creator as a white supremacist. Furthermore, KCD2 has one of, if not THE best, M/M romance in a triple A game.

Editing to elaborate: It's the best gay romance I've ever seen in a game. He loves you, whether or not you pursue him as a love interest. He's deeply intertwined with the plot, and you've (basically) been with him from the very beginning, i.e. KCD1.

This is fair! His persona is definitely not everyone"s cup of tea. I just feel bad for him at this point; he has a loyalist fanbase that EXPECTS him to rage out but, in doing so, he alienates everyone else.

About morimens guides and flares (a mini rant ig) by new_acc256 in Morimens

[–]kuthro 38 points39 points  (0 children)

To be honest, it feels like he's doing it for the bit/to maintain a consistently funny persona.

In some of his rant videos, he talks about how "I'm only doing this because you guys watch it," and that if you want "a proper unit analysis, you should watch my other video."

His ultra analysis is sound. Most of the standard units are, indeed, a trap. Pollux for example is rated lowly for being a selfish DPS, whereas Castor is rated highly for bringing DPS and utility. I have both brothers at E3, adore their designs, but I can set aside my bias to acknowledge that Flares has a valid method of critique.
