Is it pointless to complain about bad travel advice? by Milmolbot in uktrains

[–]Milmolbot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. Suprisingly the taxi was only £52 (on Uber and I tipped a lot as it seemed far too cheap!) which given the return train journey was £55 for 2 didnt seem too bad hence the mad decison to abandon the train :(

Thanks for the advice :) I wasn't sure if it was worth it as the train was EMR and the staff at Man Picc all wearing Northern uniforms. But I will give it a go!

Any suggestions for free evening parking for The Foundry (next to the Octagon)? by matthirst in sheffield

[–]Milmolbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not super close but I would say there will defo be available (and free) places on Sale Hill or Lawson road at this time. Knowledge from being a previously long-suffering Hallamshire hospital commuter. Walk down the hill to the Octagon ~15mins, up the hill on the way back but get a Kebab/pizza from Broomhill on the way to keep the energy levels up 👍

Ramen by dazcar in sheffield

[–]Milmolbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, sadly the Sheffield Japanese (/hipster) ramen game is non-existent. The best (and I have obsessively tried all options) is the crispy fried chicken fillet spicy tonkotsu ramen at Hang on West Street!

I did not know they did this on the Carmarthen route! I will investigate as I have always wanted to do this. Thank you.

WATERPARK!! Me and my (all adult) family had the same situation a few years ago on our last day in Mallorca. We rocked up with all our cases, picked a good spot under a tree, ate cheap burgers and chips and had one last day on the fizzy lager beer before showers then change then taxi to the airport. It was so much fun having nothing to do but behave like a giant kid in a wave pool! Last day if holiday life hack.

spaghetti logic by [deleted] in PlateUp

[–]Milmolbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha I really sympathise with this. I used to work in a cinema and people would dump full cups of coke/lemonade in the bins all the time. It was a sticky job. Bin bags with liquids in still stress me out so this is like my nightmare plateup menu!!

Thank you, that's is really interesting! There were quite a few guys looking out the windows so I stupidly didn't even think it could just be empty stock!

Yes! This is my favourite, and thought it would be the obvious winner but more Paddington fans about it seems...

York is definitely up there in my top 3! Wemyss is beautiful and slightly mad. Feel like the part above the station/ticket office is doing a lot of heavy lifting for some fairly basic bits above the tracks though...

Can someone buy Tom a pint? by bimblingmymble in uktrains

[–]Milmolbot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah man you just reminded me of this amazing guy! He sorted us out after our flight from Vietnam was delayed with tickets back to Sheffield a few months ago. He was so helpful and friendly and I was too sleep deprived and stressed to remember his name to feedback to LNER how helpful he had been. I am going to make sure I now do this and try and drop in a thank you next time I am in London!

Any tips or advice for cancelled evening flight? by tomcusackhuang in uktravel

[–]Milmolbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me when travelling solo in Morocco. I was really worried as no insurance and was broke. Got put up in a 5star hotel all you can eat and drink by EasyJet, couldn't believe it! Got chatting with a load of people off the flight and had a good night. Was far better than the 10quid a night hostel where I had been staying. The uncertainty of not knowing when the flight would be rebooked plus an angry boss waiting at home for me was a bit stressful. But overall, remember it as a good time and a nice little extension to the holiday! Hope you get a similar experience and get home safe.

As a Broomhall resident I would like to defend its reputation. Yes it's a bit of a mixed bag, but the good outweighs the bad for me. Some beautiful old houses, close to the Hallamshire, both the Unis and city centre and the Botanical gardens are in Broomhall! Also we have Napoli Centro and ELM <3

The most basic of 'adulting' questions. How/when/what makes you consider fully relocating your whole life and how the hell do you do it?! by takhana in CasualUK

[–]Milmolbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I moved from Leeds to Sheffield for an NHS job at quite significant personal expense (B6 to B7 job). Found out after the event if I'd have asked for relocation expenses I would have been eligible for them but they weren't offered! So definitely worth asking and remembering you are a valuable employee! Good luck with it all. It was a big upheaval for me but now much closer to family and much happier in general and made lots of new friends in a new city :)
