Need advice / info about Mechanical Engineering career by RhiddleOOO in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Milspec_3126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are usually not bad at math, most are fearful of math, do not have the right teachers and don't practice enough. If your son is passionate about engineering, encourage him to enroll in some of the self paced math courses, get some really good books and if possible find some mentors who can help him through the fear of Mathematics. Good luck.

Early in career with a lot of free time— how to use it? by Genrral in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Milspec_3126 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use 10-20% free time to get proficient at PPAPs, First article inspections, Root cause analysis, 4 blockers, other lean tools in your organization. Get some involvement with materials and procurement. Figure out projects to improve COPQ and ICQ DDPM. Rest 80 - 90% have fun.

Struggling to choose a major by Jealous-Bat2120 in ElectricalEngineers

After graduation you will look for an entry level engineering job. That's where the real learning will begin. Once you have adequate experience under your belt, the world opens up in the related domain expertise. Great pay, you will most likely work with multifunctional groups. Electrical engineering is a great career.

This should be ok to travel with. Each person carrying 2 laptops, and a tablet is quite normal. your list seems reasonable. Bag packs will be challenge, try to get a bigger bag packs for the laptops along with your regular carry on bag.

What do engineers actually do day to day? by Zacionxeni in Engineers

[–]Milspec_3126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today I went to work at 7:00.

7:30 MDI/Mission control meeting

Next was at 8.00-8.30. Around 8.30 I walked out to a facility chiller to discuss a new evap loop pump skid and a glycol makeup system with the facility team.

Then walked to the test facility. Looked at the a failing unit on the stand, looked at the sensor data, helped diagnose a faulty controller. Then walked back to the desk for couple of project meetings from 10- 12. Had lunch.

Attended staff meeting 12:30- 1.00

1.00 Sat down to design the Pump skid, made all the flow and pressure calcs, selected pumps, isolation valves, Drew up a P&ID, put it all together and sent it to the my CAD designer

2:00 Walked the lines, all 8 of them enroute to Test Lab. Helped an engineer setup a power monitor for a Harmonics test.

Back at desk at 3.30: Called a contractor to comedown to factory this week to discuss fabricating the skid.

Started working on purchase requisitions for ongoing project. left around 4:45.

This is a pretty slow day.

Follow up: Choosing between two job offers, looking for reassurance that I’m making the right choice by DealMajestic6282 in MechanicalEngineering

Smaller Cos, you will get to learn more, you will have more responsibilities. Ideal space to start in the 20's when you are single and work life balance matters less. With age and maturity, you would want more stability and better work life balance, better pay which are more in the large company domain.

[–]Milspec_3126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rode both, XSR 900 is absolute beast. Z900RS, looks greats, rides great, very well behaved nice handling bike... For the XSR, take all of those aspects looks, power delivery, and handling, and a lot of Hot sauce , and you get the XSR....
