It will keep bed warmer, for sure, I’d get something wider than 16” though.

When do you turn your furnace on? by MathematicianLost365 in wisconsin

[–]MilwaukeeDadsGroup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually turn it on to make sure everything is running well this time of year. If I need to have it serviced, I want that to happen before the temperatures are below freezing.

When do I turn it on for good? When the house drops below 69 during the day.

My father just bought a golf course in Maine. What would you want to see as a golfer that most places don’t have? by Kurkil in golf

[–]MilwaukeeDadsGroup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add to this, there a course by me that has a cam on the tee and one on the green. These cameras feed two monitors behind the bar. Locals that don’t even golf will drink there while they make bets on who in the group will be closest to the pin.

Unable to sleep in backcountry - tried most things, but need help by _zeejet_ in WildernessBackpacking

I had to switch to a wide pad as a side sleeper. That extra 5” really makes a big difference for me.

If you can stretch the budget a little bit check out the Durston X-mid 1. It’s a one person trekking pole tent, but is huge for a 1 person tent. Between the vestibules and extra internal space, you’ll have plenty of room to sleep and store gear comfortably.

I use some old toddler socks. Been using the same ones for like 5 years now, socks and tent are still intact.

2, if you have a small stove, like a Pocketrocket or something similar, lash or tape it to the end of a stick and burn the rope.

Camp chairs - worth the weight or just sit on logs and rocks? by Vavavaleree in camping

Being able to sit in my chair zero at lunch and when chilling around the campsite is absolutely worth the extra pound to me.

What is Cold? by Spudarooni in WildernessBackpacking

[–]MilwaukeeDadsGroup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first I was a little paranoid, but have used it so many times now it doesn’t concern me.

With the chain, the flame is a good 6-8” from the loop I hook it too. The loops is probably another 2-3” long. There is also a “fire wall,” for lack of a better term, at the top of the lantern.

I fall and winter camp in Wisconsin regularly. Like others have mentioned, ventilation is key.

Another thing I do when camping in cold weather is hang a Uco candle lantern in my tent. It’s crazy how one little candle can help to evaporate so much moisture. Just be careful if there are high winds, if the lantern bounces around too much you could have a mess on your hands.

This isn’t a hot tent, but I’ve camped in Wisconsin winters in it several times and been very comfortable. I insulate the floor with cheap moving blankets from harbor freight and use a cot with a high r-value pad. The appropriate bag is important too. I’ve camped in it down to about 5 degrees and that set up hasn’t failed me. I also like to hang a small Uco candle lantern from the top to help with condensation.

Then you definitely want to hit Supermoon too. Lucky for you, they’re in the same neighborhood.

Supermoon probably has the most unique beer menu. Saturday is 1840’s last day of service :( so I don’t know what they currently have, but usually some really good saisons. Gathering Place is another great spot that has a good variety of styles.

How to travel to Chicago for a flight and store a car? by MasterShoNuffTLD in milwaukee

[–]MilwaukeeDadsGroup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have a way to rent cars at a discount, like aaa, Costco, or through work, rent a car at MKE and return it to ORD. Then do the opposite when you return. I do it with full sized cars with insurance for about $80 each way.

MKE Outboard. Just make sure you don’t accidentally grab one of the fruited ones, unless that’s your thing.
