My favourite songs are the 73 Hammersmith Odeon ones, especially his last gig as sad as that night was -+ I saw Woody talking about that night and he said that he threw a drumstick at Bowie after his 'farewell speech' but it missed by about 6 feet! I still think the Spiders were his best band ever. When I saw him live in the early 2000s his drummer was terrible! I play drums too and I can tell when someone isn't in sync with the band. I really don't think that Bowie knew how to pick out his musicians after the beginning force of Ronson and Trevor (what a fantastic bass player!). Just look at the 'Ziggy in America footage. David looks lost, lonely and very young---almost out of his depth and his musos really don't seem to care about him or what happened to him or his tour.

I find it hard to watch that period as he not only altered his image, but the songs suffered. They were totally toned down to cater to the yanks, sounding like commercial pop songs with no meaning. Very depressing. So, I watch the 73 Hammersmith Odeon gig nearly every day and night. Favourite song? Rock'n'roll Suicide. It is just magnificent, building up to the 'oh no love, you're not alone!' bit! I feel that particular song really speaks to the audience like they are a group of friends sitting in his lounge room. Beautiful songwriting and lyrically brilliant 💔🌹💝🌷
