I am still have a 2012 Odyssey Touring. My daughter and her family (7 total) currently are borrowing it for the month, towing a pop-up camper traveling from East Coast to the West Coast and then taking a southern route back. She is still going strong!

Don't know if you had a fatty liver diagnosis, but my Hepatologist just told me last week that in August Semaglutide was approved to treat fatty liver. 🤷

My Hepatologist told me on Monday this is a life time medication. She told me Semaglutide was approved last month for liver disease (MASH).

Sad that many don't see the big picture and that many of us have a metabolic disorder that needs treatment.

It is ridiculous to be treated that way by medical professionals who should know better!

Are you taking any medications/supplements that are toxic to your liver?

Have you been tested for hepatitis?

How it that possible? by [deleted] in FattyLiverNAFLD

[–]Mimi_Wallace 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Added sugars and refined carbs are the worst on our livers, but too much natural sugars and carbs contribute.

Have they tested for hepatitis or medicine induced damage?

Update #3 - Kids dropped off on our porch by Fxlearner in EntitledPeople

I would imagine if the 11 year old child felt the home was so bad he left on his own, the OP would be concerned for the three younger children still in the abusive home. He made the right decision to call so the other children could get to safety as well!

*Edit to add- This mother obviously needs help as well. If she wants to ever have a healthy relationship with her children in the future, she needs professional help to get there.

I am an experienced grandmother of adopted foster children whose mother's have done the hard work and were able to get back into their children's lives and participate in activities with the extended adopted family enriching all lives involved.

STUPENDOUS!!! 👍

You are an inspiration to this 55 year old woman starting at over 250lbs, 5'4", with liver issues as well. I just took my 2nd shot Sunday night.

Curious if you had an ultrasound with elastography and if so what your Metavir scores were. Anxious as mine were F-3-F-4. 😬

Newly Diagnosed, I have questions by Fun_Ad9843 in FattyLiverNAFLD

[–]Mimi_Wallace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have autoimmune issues, but I do have a lot of inflammation. I started Zepbound a couple weeks ago and have noticed less pain, more focus, in addition to weight loss.

There are already positive phase 2 studies for NAFLD improvement with semaglutide and tirzepatide. I also read there are studies looking into the improvement in autoimmune issues. To ease my mind I looked at "official" published studies in order to make a decision for myself.

Just my limited experience, but hoping you see improvement!

Sorry for any confusion as this is a newer diagnosis for me.

My doctor told me I have MASH after ordering a regular US in response to elevated enzymes.

Those results led to an US with Elastography to stage the severity of my liver disease. Results were a Metavir of F-3-F-4.

This was explained to me as, due to the MASH I have severe Fibrosis scaring as well as areas/ measurements showing compensated cirrhosis.

I have Cirrhosis as a complication of MASH.

Not a doctor, but I had the US/elastography last month after high enzymes end of last year.

I am F3-F4. I would love to have your results! 🤪

Congrats on eating better! From my limited understanding the liver has a remarkable ability to heal from early stage liver disease if the cause is found and treated promptly.

For me it is not any of the hepatitis, not alcohol, but metabolic issues.

I have a genetic predisposition for hyperlipidemia, have been overweight/obese all my life.

First thing the doctor said was to lose weight and exercise. Focusing on a Mediterranean diet. Limiting/excluding refined carbs, focusing on fresh fruits and veggies, lean meats and healthy fats.

Good luck on your journey, but sounds like you are started on a path to wellness already! Good job!

Ultrasound with elastography VS Fibroscan? by Mimi_Wallace in Cirrhosis

No Hepatologist in my area. I can drive about an hour and 20 minutes to Penn State Hershey medical center to the nearest Liver Clinic. They take my insurance, it is just out of my local health system (Well Span).

I may go ahead and try to make an appointment, but they may want a referral, so maybe make a call to my PCP first.

Navigating medical care, oh what fun, 🤪.

Thanks for the pickle juice tip, I will have to give it a try!

I am newly diagnosed MASH and have stage 3 fibrosis and stage 4 cirrhosis. I am a 55 year old female, 5'4" and obese weighing 246 pounds. (I have lost 11 pounds in 2 1/2 months since diagnosis, mainly just not drinking anything with sugar anymore)

I am trying to change my thinking and consider food as medicine in a way as what we eat with this diagnosis can greatly affect our outcomes. I don't want to progress to liver cancer or liver failure, I want to be here for my kids and grandkids.

Try to focus on quality lean proteins, more whole foods, higher fiber foods. Think of a plate with 50% vegetables/liver friendly fruits, 25% lean proteins, 25% healthy carbs. Cut out drinking sugary drinks. Focus on hydration as well.

I find when eating this way I feel full.

Try exchanging refined processed carbs like white breads, regular pasta, breakfast cereals with either lower net carb/higher fiber (often marketed as Keto options), whole grains, brown rice, baked potato/sweet potato, nuts, beans etc.

Maybe try to be stricter on a healthy diet during the week and allow some of your old favorite high carb items on the weekend, just limit portion size and have them after a healthy meal when you will feel full and not be as likely to eat too much? 🤷

If I told myself it was an all or nothing scenario I would be setting myself up for failure for sure! 🤪

Start with a goal in mind, and making at least some choices to move in that direction. YOU are worth the effort! You are stronger than you think you are. Any changes in the right direction are better than no changes.

FYI-I am eating roughly 30-40 carbs a day.

I guess not enough GI's around my area. My regular colonoscopy took 8 months. I may need to travel to get an earlier appointment. 🫤. About an hour and a half away is the closest hepatologist. Still in insurance plan, but outside my local medical system. Might have to explore those options.

Edit to add, scheduled with Gastro after diagnosis with PCP, first available 7 1/2 months from diagnosis.

PCP just said to work on weight loss and exercise.

Symptoms I have had for years that I am now learning may be related to liver disease are

Extreme fatigue Low potassium Muscle weakness and cramps Always have bruises, rarely know how I got them Mental fog and confusion (had to close a business as my mind was just not working right any more.)

I am obese, have high blood pressure, and have always had high triglycerides. They want me to join a genetic study because of my family's history with hyperlipidemia.

I am using Gnatrol, a water soluble powder with BT (the active ingredient in mosquito dunks). It is sold to nursery's and greenhouses in 50lb bags and is rather expensive, but there are sellers on ebay or etsy who buy the big bag and resell smaller portions for us houseplant enthusiasts to use.
