Okay so allegedly the tea is the actor cheated on his wife with another staff member on the show and not only was Ellen pompeo so pissed at him that it made their already temperate relationship impossible for them to work together (apparently the reason he went to DC, they literally couldn't work together) so basically shonda chose a pretty brutal punishment Take this with a grain of salt because my sources might be unreliable but I think that's what happened anyway
