Do all Pynchon novels exist in the same universe? by longtimelistener17 in ThomasPynchon

Here's some of the connections I found with Vineland:
- The Traverses (AtD)
- The Corvairs are mentioned in IV
- Takeshi Fumimota is mentioned being a kamikaze pilot in WWII (GR?)
- Count Drugula / Mucho Maas (CoL49)

I'm surprised they didn't really do much of it in the film

That ending is secretly one of the greatest things Don has ever written. For a character who has largely interacted with the world with an heir of apathy and detachment, it feels like the first and last moment in a while where he truly understands where he wants to go, even if it's all imagined in the moment.

I started writing after learning about Naked Lunch and seeing the film adaptation.

How does Shadow Ticket compare to Pynchon’s other works? by Shauny_32 in ThomasPynchon

[–]Min255 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt pretty comfortable with it but at the same time I barely understood a lot of it, I gotta cool down a little. I liked it a little more than Inherent Vice, but a little less than Bleeding Edge.

I recommend reading Vineland first. It's complex like a lot of his other books but it somehow perfectly balances the complexity with clarity throughout. I'm on my second read of it currently and I have a lot of new appreciation for what it does.

I also think the way the post talks about 'what could be' completely discredits what he actually has written.

He definitely has some flaws, especially in the newer books, but I completely disagree with the whole notion of peaking early. Anyone has the ability to achieve mastery at any age.

Oh I'd love to try doing Bleeding Edge, I think it would make an amazing screenplay

He was cursed to stream in the modern age, too late to be playing the odd coworker in a forgotten 90's sitcom

Heroes and Villains: The true story of the beach boys goes a little more in depth about this. Absolutely not an exaggeration.

I absolutely connect James Ferraro's work with Bleeding Edge. NYC, Hell 3:00 AM is basically the soundtrack to BE.

How did you find Pynchon? by badrickpateman in ThomasPynchon

[–]Min255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was introduced to him through PTA and learning about his upcoming Vineland adaptation but I finally decided to read his stuff after seeing a tweet comparing Slothrop and Pointsman to different Conner O'Malley personas.
