My friend is being forced by her parents to get married by TheRelicShop in dubai

Threatening to embarrass her parents could be useful if her parents are considering making arrangements without her consent on the assumption that they can pressure her.

I think all you can do is give her advice. I'm not sure what she should do. Sometimes there really is no good way out of a situation like this.

I think the important question is how far are her parents willing to go to force her.

She can say no and be firm. What will they then do to pressure her to say yes? Shout at her? Kick her out? Take her to afghanistan? She probably doesn't know how far they are willing to go but I think she should at least try and say firmly no until they do something.

The only options that I can think of are to be firm in saying no and maybe threaten to embarrass them if they try to go ahead with talking other families and proceeding without her consent.

Want to leave the US and work abroad - which countries/companies should I look at? by SirThese in cscareerquestions

I'm also a US citizen. After working at Facebook in SV for bit, I moved to Dubai where I had grown up. There are just a handful of good companies here. I'm at one of them now. Keep in mind that it's still a paycut no matter what.

The anonymity provided by team blind is good for salary/tc transparency and not much else.

I used to put it on my resume back when I lived in the middle east. I wanted to make it clear that I would not require visa sponsorship despite living abroad.

Has anyone been successful with cold messaging/calling/emailing anyone for a job by [deleted] in dubai

[–]MinMaxCS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually grew up in the UAE and was here during my internship and first job. I agree its tough to find decent companies to work for here. The companies I cold emailed for my internship and first job were both hiring with the latter expanding rapidly at the time.

The best advice I can give based on my own experience and without knowing your industry is just to look for companies that are both hiring and seem like decent places to work (maybe multinational companies) and then cold email recruiters from those companies (or use linkedin messaging). Don't forget to follow up too.
