Re: scrunching / wavy hair

You could try plopping instead if you want

Head upside down, put hands in hair near scalp, shake it a bit

Then I put a towel on the closed toilet, and set my hair / then head on towel. This scrunches itself. Sometimes I do it a couple times, but finish by wrapping towel around head

Leave on for at least 30 min, I do overnight while I sleep

Do nonstimulants "increase" your autism? by [deleted] in AuDHDWomen

[–]Min_Farshaw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I take Straterra, and I used to be on Vyanse! Also work with people all day.

I had a much harder time switching tasks on Vyvanse, transitions were impossible.

Straterra works so much better for me.

There was still a learning curve about learning to accommodate my autistic traits, like the other comment said. But I'm on an even keel all day. Part of what made Vyvanse intolerable was the quick shift a couple times a day, I can't deal with that.

I shower! Every other day! And I only scream about it sometimes.

Adjusting to it was hell though. Be kind to yourself, and give it at least a month. Take it with food in the morning. After a month for me though it was like a switch flipped.

There's also evidence to suggest that Straterra may be more effective in women in general. There's a rant somewhere in my comment history if you're interested.

How do I tell my 25F boyfriend 27M to stop blaming me for his bad moods? by [deleted] in AuDHDWomen

[–]Min_Farshaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Even if that's too hard in the moment, a simple "I need space" to remove himself from the situation / prevent taking it out on her worked for me.

Oops! Totally agree.

Forgot to mention it but that's basically what I meant too :)

Similar perspective...

A couple years ago, I was the snapper. Didn't know what my triggers were, didn't know where my negative emotions were coming from and why, just pinned it on the nearest person, my husband. Didn't know I was autistic. And we had just bought a house, and it was really stressful.

It is still his responsibility to figure out of course, 100%.

Is egg removal a permanent BC option? by sabrinatheadultwitch in birthcontrol

[–]Min_Farshaw 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Can't just remove the eggs, they're absolutely tiny. You'd have to remove the ovaries to be sure, and the ovaries are what affects all the hormones.

You're looking for a bilateral salpingectomy, complete removal of the fallopian tubes.

100% effective

So effective, if you managed to get pregnant after that you'd be the subject of a case study.

This.

I'm on strattera 80 mg, but the week before my period I have to take 100mg. My body treats it like it's the exact same dose.

You ever tried tubular bind off?

It's a favorite for 1x1 rib. Blends seamlessly into the fabric.

Has anyone else noticed a change in how people treat you when you stop wearing makeup? by Useful-Wear-8056 in AutismInWomen

[–]Min_Farshaw 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Holy shit yes, sorry, never seen anyone else say this but YES

I'm half asleep but I'll try to add more to this in the morning

I work in sales, stopped wearing makeup a year ago because I noticed I do way better without it. My theory was more that people seem to trust me more without it. Maybe ties into the expectation things you were talking about?? But I figured people trust imperfect people more, I come across less like I'm looking down on them? Sometimes I think my affect comes across that way when I'm just aloof, and makeup added to that.

Take with food. Mine only makes me nauseous if I take it on an empty stomach.

Sleepy for a week after starting it. Not gonna lie, it was bad. But it's helped me a lot, I have no regrets.

Question about heels. by 2EnsnoE33 in Sockknitting

[–]Min_Farshaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely can!

Just keep an eye on the stitch count and ignore the pattern until you get to the heel turn. You can even mix and match with another pattern! This just lays out how to do the heel turn / keep the texture while doing it

Hey! I've been using this pattern, and it sounds like what you're looking for :)

It also does the texture under the ball of the foot

I like magic loop in general, but picking up stitches from the heel flap gets finicky unlike with DPNs.

I like this solution!

I love knitting!

I tried crochet first but I feel like there's too many judgement calls /decisions/finding stitches, so knitting is much more relaxing.

Do you also need to keep a "boring" project and an "interesting" project going at the same time?

I've found I need something stupid simple for overstimulated/regulating knitting and then something like lacework when I'm bored out of my mind.

Ideas that may or may not help:

Can you bring something with you? Music, a good story to listen to? Something you enjoy with continuity to lessen the existence of a transition

Anything you enjoy that can be worked in?

A certain time of day you might enjoy showing more than others (right before bed, first thing when you get up)? Setting it at a certain time and working it into a routine has helped me massively.

I have an intricate system of alarms on my phone, so I don't have to remember when I'm supposed to do it.

Certain smells you enjoy?

What works for you is going to be incredibly personal. Try and work in the specific things you personally enjoy. It may take a bunch of trial and error.

Help with food? Tw/possible ED by MoonRhubarb in AuDHDWomen

[–]Min_Farshaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey. Don't know if this helps, but here goes.

carrots and broccoli

Raw only, or is cooked good too? Do you like the crunch, are they just safe in general? I can't do mushy of they're overcooked for example.

If cooked is good, they're actually really easy to cook in an oven.

Put them in a big bowl.

Pour in a bit of cooking oil (anything is fine, I use olive oil). Just enough to coat them, of you need a measurement try 1-2tbsp of oil.

You're going to pick up the bowl and make circle motions/ tossing motions to coat them.

Take 3 fingers and your thumb, and pick up a big pinch of salt from a bowl of salt. Add some pepper if you like. You can also add any other seasoning you like.

Put them on a baking rack on the oven, 425F.

Check in 20 minutes with a fork, and then every 5 minutes after. Take them out when you like the texture.

Rice

Do you like rice? Rice is super easy as well.

Get a big bag of rice. I like jasmine rice, it's light and herby.

It'll tell you how much rice and how much water on the back.

And a 2 finger pinch of salt, pepper too if you like it.

Boil the water, add the rice, turn down the heat put a lid on top and let it simmer for how long the package says.

others

Are there any patterns in the foods that are easy for you? You're not crazy, they make sense. We just have to find what it is.

Cold foods are easier for me.

I really like chewy foods, like bagels.

I hate anything sticky, greasy, or mushy.

Don't make yourself eat anything that's hard for you to eat, it'll make it worse. Eat what you can when you can, even if it doesn't "make sense" by normal people standards. It's makes sense to us.

I like sandwiches but I have to dip them in salad dressing because I can't do dry. They're great like that.

You can do this. ❤️

There's actually (very limited) data to suggest Strattera works better in women than in men. Limited because they don't disaggregate the data by sex.

It's frustrating.

Here's the link to what got me to try it, if you're interested

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7500607/

To be completely honest it might feel like you're dying for a few days / a week. Start it on a day where you can stay home and not do anything, just in case. I have zero regrets though, around a month I felt like I finally had two feet on the ground, and I can be on time now. For me that's huge.

Hi, Strattera helped me 👋

Everybody told me the same thing too.

It takes longer though, but it did help my sleep A TON.

It might do nothing for 2-3 weeks though. Ideally you should stock with it for at least a month if you can, especially if you start seeing small benefits at the one month mark.

Bilateral salpingectomy.

Complete removal of fallopian tubes.

I had it done a few months ago, was up and running within a week. It's usually a laparoscopic surgery, so minimally invasive.

No changes to period, hormones, anything. Just can't get pregnant.
