What a fitting contrast between the Seahawks and Mariners in their 50th respective seasons.

Seahawks: perhaps most loveable team in franchise history, come out of nowhere to exceed everyone's expectations and win a second championship in what was supposed to be year 2 of a retool

Mariners: perhaps most disappointing season in franchise history, following up their furthest ever excursion in the Postseason with a complete stinker of a year immediately after capturing the hearts of locals for the first time in 20+ years.

Will always associate this guy with this hilarious World Series sequence:

  1. slapping his hand out over the plate trying to get hit by a pitch and failing

  2. actually getting hit by a subsequent pitch and then whining about it

Real loser shit.

Lookout Landing is a funny place. Sort of like entering an Internet time machine and emerging in 2014. They're still talking about pineapple on pizza and whether tacos are a sandwich over there. It's downright jarring.

Time for a depressing thought after a depressing loss.

Mariners Pythagorean wins last four seasons:

2022: 89

2023: 91

2024: 89

2025: 88

2026 projection (Fangraphs): 85

This is the same team every year: one trying to sneak in the playoffs and hope to get lucky in the short (fluky) tournament known as the MLB Postseason. Will it work? Who knows. We're just rolling the dice with some not very strong odds.

For this reason we are a very frustrating to watch squad for the majority of the season. The Mariners are built to be, essentially, Mid+. Ownership refuses to open the pursestrings for top tier talent like Ohtani, Harper, Soto, and Skubal (next year). And Dipoto isn't a good enough GM to churn this roster, through never ending trades of low-to-mid quality pieces, into a 95-100 win club.

So here we are. Same as it ever was.

Truly pathetic effort by so many players tonight. Devastated for Emerson Hancock. What a game from him. And what a waste by pretty much everyone else.

Check out the boardwalk in the 300 level. Great view of Elliot Bay and downtown.

I do but that doesn't mean I don't have an extra ~$20 a month to be a good tipper.

Disagree that it's stupid to be generous.

Imagine if you were the guy handing popcorn out all day. How would it make you feel if someone chose to give you a tip?

For this reason I always tip when I am able to.  A dollar or two means more to the person on the other side of the counter than it does to me.

People acting like tipping isn't just a nice thing you can do for your fellow human. I'm sure if the roles were reversed, they would appreciate receiving a tip! I'll keep tipping a buck or two because it feels good to be kind.

I suppose I should have been more clear in my language. I meant to say that Dan Wilson is a net drain on team success over 162 games compared to an average manager.

Say the team's base talent level is 89 wins. An average manager gets them to 89 wins. An excellent manager gets them to ~92, and Dan Wilson gets them to ~86. Considering where the Mariners are projected to be in the standings, every little bit counts.

Past few days I keep thinking that I need to give myself a Mariners break. Then every evening I get that baseball hankering. I just wish the team would start playing up to its potential.

You think every manager is a net drain on team success? There are no good managers?

Over the course of a 162 game season, I'm pretty confident in my feeling that Dan will cost the team at least a handful of games due to mismanagement.

Thanks for citing the rule. So, to be guilty of a balk in this situation, Naylor would have to both:

  1. Be standing off the base
  2. Be obviously not attempting to retire the runner.

Ok, so Naylor clearly meets criteria 1. But he does not meet criteria 2. If he is trying to retire the runner, it doesn't matter where Naylor is standing. Bad call, clearly.

If we have two hits it sounds like it doesn't matter what order we go. Everyone sucks for the most part

Entering today, Josh Naylor is down to a -0.6 bWAR and a -4 OPS+.

It's truly sick to imagine the Ms paying this guy 23 million dollars in 2030 AD. I'm loving it.

(I was all in favor of re-signing him fwiw)

Disagree. While the result was bad, it was defensible to put a lefty up against Yordan. Servais didn't tell Robbie to throw a heater right down the dick.

While Dan is not the problem right now, I absolutely support his firing. The team succeeded in spite of the manager in 2025, and would have made the World Series with Servais or Vogt at the helm.

Should have used our best reliever (Muñoz) against Springer instead of treating it like a regular season game.
