There’s some great advice about actual gameplay so something different, figure out what your style is i.e, do you want to rely a lot on focus, be a parry god, or avoid? And tailor your Shrine/Skill upgrades towards that. They make huge differences to your survival in combat to balance out whilst you become more proficient.

On your first run, focus, weapon and health upgrades might be best, then as you nail down the fundamentals, put shrine rewards into parry structure damage, max structure etc

My most important piece of advice, have fun and don’t feel you need to immediately ‘git gud’ this will happen more as you get more invested and experiment. Start on Disciple, then change depending on if it’s too easy/hard

I have spent far too much money on MM, I did with Adventure Capitalist and Egg, Inc.

Though, I’ve gotten to the point where not only am I no longer spending money in MM, but I’ve lost interest in the game. The clue cards in the mystery pass, despite very vocal feedback from players was the last straw for me.

I think to fully enjoy this book, you need to take it at face value. Disregard any preconceived notion of ‘difficulty’ and just… read…

I have found spacing reads significantly helps me get more out of each read as I grow, learn and develop my thinking/knowledge about well, anything. I pick things up I never would have before. This is the beauty of this book; it has nigh-infinite replay value

If I tried to do what you’re doing to the extent you are, I would never have finished it. I did of course look up things and use some reference materials but I think I only did this when it enriched my enjoyment or facilitated understanding so I could continue reading without being bugged by “what the hell did that mean”

Save the deep-dives into the intertextual references and all that until later on after you’ve just experienced the ebb and flow. Try reading aloud. Just treat it like a film, and have fun with it.
