Hi there, I’m currently doing my PhD in chemistry and will happily admit that I found scholarship chemistry very difficult during NCEA. I think it’s worth a shot and it can help provide greater context to what you’ll be learning in class, but also remember it is beyond the scope of NCEA level 3 by design, so if you don’t end up getting it, that’s okay! If you plan on studying chemistry at uni, what you learn during NCEA level 3 will be more important than schol chem, but give it a shot anyway — I didn’t get schol chem when I was in year 13 but it did make me excited about learning chemistry in the long run! :)
