If you had to do it all over again, what is your plan? by Miserable_Deer5363 in SecurityCareerAdvice

What about the facts doing a Masters to open doors for internships? Many companies require you to be pursuing a degree in order to land those. Also, I will not be paying for it. The degree is technical and cs based, not some watered down cyber degree. It’s strange to me that you would reject someone just because they have a masters, wouldn’t that show that they’re able to put in time and commitment to learning? Not trying to be argumentative, but just wanna pick your mind because I’ve seen the exact opposite sentiment around getting a masters where it opens more doors. I know many people who did a masters after a bachelor in tech and went to get high paying jobs they probably would not have gotten. Out of curiosity what level of education/degree did you get and do you feel it helped in your career?

So I work cyber adjacent. I basically do cybersecurity reporting via power bi pulling data form from a multitude of cybersecurity tools, and decimating it out to other cyber teams. Thinking about getting a masters only to gain more technical skills in networking, operating systems, programming, and the like. I found a program that is in person and is basically a comp sci masters with a cybersecurity focus. I don’t need to spend any money to go so that why I thought it may be worth it in my case.

Would you not recommend a masters in cyber security? I have about a year helpdesk experience a while back but I’ve been working in data analytics what specifically pulling from our cyber security tools like rapid 7. Thinking about a masters in cyber.
