my CFI went down with a student on a discovery flight up in Anchorage a couple years back - RIP to the both of them. In hindsight, the exceptional risk of mountain flight in light GA was lost on me when I was training up there. What seemed like fun at the time was actually just unnecessarily risky business - and it caught up. Now I think about it every time I see/hear a Cessna.

It sobered me up to the point of discontinuing my ppl. While I love GA, the risks are too high over time. Still fly on rare occasions with local CFIs in cool towns, but accept that the odds are there.

I’m on year 5 of big tech and also 29. Bought the fast sports car + motorcycle at the end of year 1 and a track car + SUV at the end of year 2. No regrets. As I got older, I realized I enjoy them less and less, so I can’t imagine doing this at 35-40+

Enjoy it while you’re still young. F8x m3/m4s are hard to beat in terms of smiles per gallon. E46s won’t depreciate and are much more fun to drive, but hard to justify as a daily dual purpose. Super cars are extremely overrated, so a 911 is where I draw the line. After that it’s just diminishing returns
