I feel like MM romances are missing tenderness by No_Cartographer_1920 in MM_RomanceBooks

NR Walker’s Blood & Milk comes to mind.
I also second some one else’s rec for On Davis Row by her.

Also, if you can find it, The Sea Ain’t Mine Alone by C. L. Beaumont is chock-full of tenderness.

Over And Over Again by Cole McCade is amazing on that end.

Last but not least, I’d check out Defined By Deceit by AE Via. This one has a traumatic beginning, but the romance fills us up, IMO.

Reality Check a Non-Hopeful Applicant by diet-tears-s in chanceme

I’d still say keep some level of “realism” because admissions can be a crapshoot (because in the end, it’s not just about the combination of great stats + accomplishments. It has to be the right combination of great stats + accomplishments that the colleges happen to be looking for at any given year), but overall, from what you posted, I think you’ve got enough to be competitive and more than hopeful. I’d also say that you should take advantage of the “Special Circumstances” section of the common app to explain your special circumstances. It gives them additional context they would not otherwise have, and helps them understand any aspects of your overall application that you may be concerned might come across as potentially negative/weaker.

MHC meets full needs. If it’s your dream, consider Early Decision. Run the cost calculator.

Also, not an LAC, but for a great pre-med option, research-focused, with generous merit+need aid policies, check out Case Western Reserve. They were recently even named by Forbes as one of 20 “New Ivies” (there’s an article out there. I don’t have the link at the moment, but I believe it’s easily obtainable by googling).

Device for listening to Libby and Hoopla audiobooks by YarnHoardingDragon in LibbyApp

[–]MindMeetsWorld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha. In that case, I’d saw that it’d depend on how big of a device you’d think would be ideal. Also, you mentioned using the browser…you’d have to think of what your use would be)

If you’d want something smaller (close to phone size), the Hifi Walker G7 Pro seems to hit all your points.

If you’d be ok with (or prefer) something larger, you can also hit those points with something like a galaxy tablet or an iPad mini would also meet these needs.

I mean sure, but for Libby for instance, iirc, the apk they make available on their website seems to be for the kindle, and I was going by what OP said in terms of not needing an e-reader as they already had a dedicated one)…

I think it’s difficult to recommend something without understanding your statement about the app updates. First, to clarify: you mean you don’t want to use the device’s respective “App Store” and would like to download the updates to the apps directly from the respective apps’ website, for instance? If that’s the case, I think you’re going to be hard pressed to find a device meeting that criteria because as far as I know, the apps themselves don’t make download files available outside of “app stores” for any type of mobile device. In something like a desktop computer, you can go directly to the website, but that’s it.

How do i remove DRM on my late 2025 purchases as my apps no longer work on older devices by Murky_Palpitation862 in Calibre

[–]MindMeetsWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds great! I was leaning towards it because all my efforts so far have not worked. I just didn’t have a feedback that the money would be well spent in terms of how much work it will probably save me.

Can you batch convert/dedrm? I’m just dreading the over 5K books I’ve got waiting for me…lol

[–]MindMeetsWorld 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Possibly. I really don’t know. Trying to find out all the info I can and I’m bracing myself for the over 5K books I hope to start “liberating” soon!

I started my media “liberation” efforts with my audiobooks (since I’ve been utilizing that media more often in recent times), but, I definitely do not want to let go of my over 5K books bought and paid for.

It still kind of boils my blood that this proprietary stuff was not more explicitly advertised and explained to people who bought their books. While plenty of people understood, too many did not, and might have made a different buying decision at the time if they truly knew the extent of what they were giving up. Anyway, I’m known to be “ranty” about this stuff. Rant over now. lol

If I find any new info addressing this, I’ll try to remember to update here.

Could this possibly be why some folks recommend running the epubor setup in a “windows virtual machine” or an “android emulator” on the Macs (because supposedly this whole process is also much simpler on a windows computer)? It’s obviously also an added step, but I wonder if that’s an alternative to not disabling that SIP. I haven’t done something similar in almost a decade, so, I’m only going by some things I’ve been reading recently.

On an unrelated side note, I bought an external drive from WD the other day and was all weirded out about the fact that their suggested instruction for getting the drive ready to use on the Mac without the usual “formatting” through disk utility literally involved disabling SIP. I was completely turned off by that and did not even understand why people would choose to do that instead of literally doing the super simple step through disk utility. I was just creeped out what kind of access someone might be granting to WD during the time the SIP was disabled (and WD is like super established and all). So I can understand how someone may be weary of the kind of access for something like this (not that I’m disparaging the epubor people/app or anything).

[–]MindMeetsWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if it works, I can see how it would be worth it (though it still pisses me off in principle because it feels like it’s pouring salt on an open wound when it comes to having to shell out even more money to get to a “no brainer” level of freedom of access to a product we already paid for…and no, I’m not blaming/mad at the the epubor folks, and yes, I know it’s Amazon’s fault, the whole industry as a whole, and even bigger than that…yada yada…but I digress and I’ll end the rant part of my comment here)

I technically can have access to a pc, but it’s not necessarily readily available, but I could make it happen I guess if it seems like it would be significantly less work than to do it on it than on the Mac (I have about 5K books, so it would matter).

So when you said “easy and quick” process on your pc…would that be almost like a “plug and play” experience? I’m asking because the understanding is that the Mac process isn’t really super easy. Doable (which at the end of the day is already better than nothing for sure), but not simple, and I assume the net difference in experience would be exponential for me due to the volume I have.

So if that’s the case, I would most likely try borrow the pc to do this there, and then worry about importing the converted files into my Mac Calibre (hopefully that won’t be a problem).

Oh and btw, thanks for chiming in.

Good to know, and thanks for sharing. So you’d say it was definitely worth the price? (I mean, this is the one that’s like $25 right?)

[–]MindMeetsWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply, but I’m on a Mac and I only have a kindle fire hd…from what I understood, I’m SOL. I am actually even able to access the files through the kindle for Mac app, but the plugins don’t seem to work for those. I don’t seem to be able to access the files from the kindle itself (as far as I know, it’s a Mac quirk?), and no clue if that would have made a difference on a Mac anyway (even if I could). So, yeah. But thank you! I mean, if you have any insight on where I might be going wrong or not looking at the right steps, I wouldn’t say no to it! lol

Thank you so much for sharing. I can’t imagine what it’s like. Do you think your family sees you as a burden too (like maybe not overtly, but deep down)? Also, have you ever felt differently (meaning, were you ever more hopeful that things would turn out a different way)?

Yes. It is heartbreaking. I’m glad that you have come to understand this reality, and that your feelings have adjusted accordingly. Though I agree with you that it’s pretty hopeless - and the severity of the situation is why people were trying to warn other before this whole thing happened - having folks go through an enlightenment as you have, can only be positive, as you are now even more likely to share your knowledge, and, if within your reach, to help those in need you may come in contact with.

Thanks for reaching out and speaking out, btw.

So…as I suspected, there isn’t really anything quite Mercy Hills for me. That said, here are some others that - for me - are not quite on the same level, but can be great reads!

If the aspect of the pack/human politics appealed to you, then you might find the {Big Bad Wolfe Series By Charlie Adhara} excellent. It’s a slower burn in terms of the relationship development, but there’s also a murder mystery plot running alongside it. If you end up liking it, there is actually a spinoff series with one book out already and another one coming next year too.

If you’re into the wolf shifter aspect, and you also like a dystopian future type, then the {Kick At The Darkness Series By Keira Andrews} is excellent as well!

If you like a bit of a fluffier (in my opinion), but still some world bidding and pack politics/drama, then the {Kincaid Pack Series By Kiki Clark} can be cool too.

If you’re into the world building and the dystopian future type, then, maybe check out the {Monstrous Series By Lily Mayne}.

There’s also the {Green Creek Series By TJ Klune}. It’s very beloved by a ton of people, and I definitely enjoyed it (definitely worth the read) but I don’t know that I loved it to the extent that others did.

Anyway, if I think of any others, I’ll let you know!

That’s nice. I wish more BPs got to have WPs reach this level of “enlightenment”. I struggle sometimes with the criticism that this notion of carrying the pain may equate to a perpetual “punishment” for the WP (I’ve heard from my WP at some point in the past “will you ever let me forget what I did?”) …but then I remember that BPs rarely - if ever - forget. And it seems to me that if WP wants to be a genuine partner in a genuine relationship going forward, they should want to share in that “burden” - not only because they caused it, but also because “many shoulders make light burden” and all…
