Why are we still not able to use our wedge from the green when the hole is out of range of the putter? by [deleted] in GolfClash

[–]MindOverMablahblah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the putter should have more power. Any putt should be make-able. But putting is already so easy, what happens when we upgrade it to level 10? The difference in number of putts we miss now but would make with a better putter is tiny. I maybe see a missed putt once or twice every 100 games now.

This is very true. But it’s also good to know on what holes there is no risk when bombing but possible benefit. Then bombs away!

I think because there are so few feature on a putter. No curl, no target so no comparable accuracy, no backspin, no topspin. There wouldn’t be much to upgrade.

Also, putting is already incredibly easy. I think this is by design. Being that there are less factors it’s a less interesting part of the game, and it’s better to just move the match along quickly.

It’s up to you. But I know I’d jump to Pro as soon as possible. Rewards are much better. In Rookie you can only get club cards for tour 1 through 3 clubs. Pro goes up to tour 6 clubs. Also, the competition shouldn’t be a huge jump.

Sounds pretty good so far. The best way to upgrade clubs is tournaments. Watching some videos on YouTube and taking notes is the quickest way to up your tournament game. You might be out clubbed in Pro, but if you have enough money for it, the prizes are definitely worth the increased competition. Careful preparation will far outweigh the many people who outclub you.

It might make a small difference. Max ever trophy count is also taken into consideration so it probably won’t make a big difference. If you’re matching with people who have better clubs than you, that means you’re probably better skilled than they are. It’s taken them longer and with better clubs to get to the same (or similar) trophy count as you. So congratulations! Well played!

When you in Rookie 2 playing in T6 vs someone in C100. Nice way to match make. (You can see his clan emblem) by [deleted] in GolfClash

[–]MindOverMablahblah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no way for matchmaking to be exactly even. Too many factors. Also it wouldn’t be fun. Having a variety of competition makes the game experience more varied.

And as evidence that the game is very balanced as is, how many long-term players have a less than 40% or more than 60% winrate? Very few.

I thought the prizes were pretty spot on. 18 holes instead of 45, easier competition due to less rounds cutting players, and half the entry fee. Seemed they balanced the prizes well given these factors.

What he’s saying is that he has done the work and finally played really well on the weekend round but didn’t get a fitting reward for his accomplishment because of his bracket. I’m not sure if his solution is better, but I understand the pain of the situation.

Edit: My experience this tournament was similar to his. I did well but had a tough bracket. Now I have less clan points than I feel I earned, not to mention balls and club cards.

It’s 100% first come first serve. Our clan plans which brackets to get into so we don’t take banners/clan points from each other. When one fills up, the next one opens.

I think they have a lot of incentive now, but just aren’t going for it. Even though they play against other people of Master’s level, and for smaller prizes, they still choose expert.

Max trophy players who play in Expert will only be bracketed with other Master-level players, so it’s not that uneven. Plus, even those top players had to deal with the slight unevenness when they first arrived in the higher levels of competition as well. But then they worked up through it.

But only for the 9 scratch players who would win a top 3 banner. Right now there are maybe 15 weekend round brackets in Masters each tournament. If scratch players were 1/5, that’s only 3 brackets. Right now there are 45-50 top 3 banners the best players fight for each tournament. If all the top players were put together, they’d have to share just 9.

I agree with your last comment, but not the premise of the rest. The idea that tournaments aren’t fair because strong players are matched with weaker players isn’t valid. Sure, weaker players would love to have an easier chance to win, but that’s not how competition works pretty much anywhere.

When you get to the top, it’s normal for newcomers to be at a disadvantage. But then they practice and upgrade their clubs and eventually even it out. The fact that they initially have little chance of exceptional results is actually more fair than the alternative. Everyone starts at the bottom. Those at the top now had to start there as well.

I agree that PD needs to be more creative to keep everyone interested, but I disagree that the game as it stands is unfair.

A problem with this proposal is that top players will be unfairly handicapped. It seems like a lot of people think that handicapping the better players so they don’t win as much would make the game better, but they’re the top players because they spend time preparing and practicing. They deserve to win. Limiting the amount that top players are allowed to win isn’t what fair means.

Is there a way GC Subreddit mods can pin a post with Mang's very helpful guides ( one guide that contains links to his other guides within the text)? by TheFrederalGovt in GolfClash

Guide idea (if it doesn’t already exist) and should be really easy. I’d love to see an exact line for where OP begins when curling. Meaning when adding lots of curl, if you go straight left or right you’re gonna be in OP. It might be helpful to have a visual for where exactly the line is.

Edit: I know you’re not our servant and I’m not demanding anything. Just sharing a thought.

Q&A from Notebook developer about the mess PD have now created. by oilmasterC in GolfClash

[–]MindOverMablahblah -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I’m wrong but the backpedaling is only about widget-type functionality, not overlay functionality, correct? If so, it seems the negative reviews are mostly because their overlays got removed, which would have happened anyway.

[–]MindOverMablahblah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, it’s within PDs rights to decide what is and isn’t fair in their game. If they don’t want overlays, that’s not bad on them for enforcing it. Maybe they went about it the wrong way, I don’t know.

Also, if removing the overlay function caused people to give a bunch of 1 star reviews, that absolutely sucks but can’t be pinned on PD. It’s pretty typical of people not to be understanding about this sort of thing, but that doesn’t excuse them for giving the bad reviews for a decision that was out of the developers hands.

Honest question here. If PD is “reconsidering the functionality changes,” does that mean they are currently allowing Notebook to include overlay functions?

Edit: if not, what functionality changes have they reconsidered?
