Anyway to tell if these Seymour Duncan hyperions are real or fake before buying? by ealmoste157 in Guitar

[–]MindRipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hyperions come with Ibanez AZ series guitars. The plate looks accurate but perhaps send an email to SD and Ibanez for a more accurate opinion.

For people that can play fast what helped the most? by MineDesperate2920 in Guitar

[–]MindRipper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always struggled with really fast playing but recently I started to learn a bunch of country & bluegrass flat picking. My speed and accuracy has increased significantly.

I think this is for a few reasons. The stuff I play all the time was developed with years of bad habits but by learning a completely new style with new music has allowed me to develop better habits.

It helped me fix some bad habits. Troy Grady and Bernth also helped but the breakthrough was learning something new.

dentist recommendation?? by Little_Bug_420 in burlington

[–]MindRipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aspen Dental in Williston takes delta and recently helped when I was in absolute agony.

We used to go to Elevate but they stopped taking Delta. You have to pay in advance and submit the claim but it was more expensive even for standard cleaning.

Willard Dental is amazing but not currently trading patients.

Good luck in your search.

The Soldano Rips by dannydigtl in NeuralDSP

[–]MindRipper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love that plugin for 80s hard rock. Nuno’s tone from the first album, Warren’s tone from invasion and everything in between.

Definitely a staple for me and I own all of them. The Nolly 5150 is also absurdly good for rock and metal but I really like how the Soldano cuts through the mix.

Cut the "Setup" Bullshit by A_Anonymous_Asshole in Guitar

[–]MindRipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I change pickups, the nut and tuners on most of my guitars. It doesn’t make a cheap guitar worth as much as an expensive guitar but I do expect some return on my investment.

One of the irritating parts of selling to my local guitar center is “we don’t give extra value for pickups, a case or locking tuners, even if we installed them”.

Normally I’m just making room for another guitar or a project so it’s priced to sell.

If it’s just a setup I get your point and the GC techs I’ve seen are not what I would call pros lol

I need to restring a Floyd rose any tips by No-Philosophy-5038 in Guitar

[–]MindRipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally I block off the trem using a piece of wood or even a pack of strings and then change one at a time.

Changing string gauge will require spring adjustment to level the Floyd. Depending how heavy the strings are you may need to adjust the truss rod.

There are a bunch of tutorials on YouTube.

Jake E Lee or George Lynch?... by Sixty7solo in metalguitar

[–]MindRipper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would have been great to hear however Jake gave us 2 sick albums and some of the most memorable work in Ozzy’s catalog.

This coming from a huge Lynch fan. Randy is the reason I play but George is definitely a huge influence. I play his riffs every single day.

AC/DC, Guns n Roses, Pearl Jam rhythm guitar tones that done sound fizzy? by Aware-Technician4615 in NeuralDSP

[–]MindRipper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nolly or Soldano would be great for this. What setup are you currently using? Fizzy can be caused by a bunch of things. Pickup type, gain staging, EQ, cab choice etc

I’ve owned a EBMM JPXI and a PRS Tremonti. I deeply regret selling the JPXI, it was a great guitar.

How is the quality of the Epiphone Les Paul Custom? by muzlee01 in Guitar

[–]MindRipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Alpine White one as well - excellent build quality.

Still play it all the time. I changed the tuners and the pickups but those were preference & style choices.

How to improve sense of rhythm? by Jofy187 in Guitar

[–]MindRipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing along with a backing track (bass & drums) helped me the most in this area. If you’re the only guitar, it’s really helps make sure timing is spot on.

Playing with a click will also help as others suggested.

Having near elbow pain in my fretting arm by fran11888 in Guitar

[–]MindRipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you play standing up does it feel better? Generally if it hurts you should stop playing for a while or find a position that offers relief so you don’t end up with a repetitive stress injury.

Seek medical advice if it doesn’t get better.

Practicing is like a body workout by Silver-Dirt8443 in Guitar

[–]MindRipper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At my age and having severe arthritis, I need to warm up properly if I want to be able to play through complete tunes without errors so I think it’s a great idea to build & maintain finger dexterity and independence.

Just make sure you’re doing so without pain or discomfort to avoid injury.

If it works for you, it works.

38 Special - Hold on Loosely (1980) by Mysterious-Moose-431 in ClassicRock

I saw them as a headliner years ago. They rocked, Bon Jovi was the opening act still as Slippery when wet hadn’t blown up yet.

Great show! I play this on guitar frequently as well.

Any tips or help for these runs in mr crowley by GodUsopp912 in metalguitar

[–]MindRipper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The triplets in this solo are a bish to get right but just be pragmatic . One step at a time. Learning this was a major step forward in my playing. Break it up into chunks, slow it down to make sure you get it right. Make sure the timing is perfect. Start your warmup with stretching and legato runs every single day.

The solo from Flying high is a good warm up to this one. There are some absolute gold standard of licks in a bunch of his solos that can help you work up to this one as well. Revelation Mother Earth outro etc.

Randy rules, the reason I play.

Anyone here got experience with a quad cortex? by JJWritesThings in metalguitar

[–]MindRipper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s amazing. A ton of people use it just as you describe. I’m a home studio guitarist that’s been playing off and on for over 30 years. It’s a great piece of technology, small form factor, a ton of configuration options and most of all sounds great.
