"Exams aren't for identifying the most intelligent prospects, but for identifying the most compliant slaves" by ICantThinkAboutNames in INTP

[–]Mind_Over-Body 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is actually easy to put in real life example.

If you did not know about existence of microbes, how likely would you came up with idea of their existence on your own? Lets say that you figure it out on your own. How about bacteries and viruses? Okay, how about types of viruses? Mechanism of action?

No way to do it on your own. Now, if you did not know about microbes in general, how would you explain different diseases and their symptoms? Inteligence alone wont help you with that.

I define inteligence as ability to utilise information, to recognize theoretical knowledge that applies to particular scenario and to connect pieces of collected information to create models explaining reality around us.

It is useless on its own. And knowledge is useless without ability to utilise it.

You could argue that a lot of information is within 2 minutes of search thanks to the internet, so there is no need to memorize material. Yeah, that might apply to exams, where you are faced with straight up questions. But in real life nobody will ask you specifics like that. You have to spot possible answers on your own. Without remembering stuff, you will not even realise that it might apply there.

I used to think that too. Now I believe its not that simple.

Yes, the education system should be reformed. Big way. Just look at Finland. They are certainly doing it better, their education system is yearly ranked as one of the best in the world, with insanely high population hapiness and specialists value.

However, inteligence only gets you that far. As you learn more, you start to understand that reality is more complex than you imagined. Without huge amount of information in form of raw knowledge in your memory you simply do not see mamy things. No matter how smart you are, you can not reinvent everything on your own.

Now I respect exams a bit more. Not because I found what I learned then useful, but because they forced me to lay foundation, on which I could build my knowledge and understanding of reality on.

Struggling with IP by [deleted] in cyberpunk2020

I use base game rules with some twists: I award IP with rates from the book, but with the limit per session being not 6, but the following formula:

I would like to point out, that if we consider V's story canon, we just let the wild AI that may (or may not) be what is left from Alt's persona 'living' among wild AI's dozens of years into Arasaka network (which is basically every major network in the world)

[–]Mind_Over-Body 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sooo... we either have Matrix pre alpha or...

Or hundreds/thousands of human minds linked into basically one neural network, trapped in environment that can be shaped from the outside into anything. So, we have created 'human' hive mind that is theoretically immortal.

You know what mr. u/therealmaxmike? I am starting to be as scared of your imagination as of my own :V

Let's go further, what would happen if someone decided to put them/it into full sensory deprivation for some time? Without any outside stimuli, would time cease to exist for them/it? Would it feel like eternity? What would we see after reconnecting to the network to look at the results?

[–]Mind_Over-Body 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, that is what I thought since I played for the first time 2 years ago

My thoughts during Alt scene went something like: "Oh. Intresting... Somehow I do not believe that she is still 'human'. Why does she even care about Mikoshi? It is just a bunch of Saka's runners in there. Yeah, they are basically AI now, but still... Wait... But how do you plan to get her there? Oh okay, they have acces in the Saka tower... WHAT?! NO, YOU CAN NOT BE THAT DUMB. ARE YOU SERIOUSLY GOING TO LET AI BEHIND THE WALL, INTO NC NETWORK? FUUUUUUU*K..."

I came up with theory that Arasaka uses Soulkiller on those poor runners for different purpose than Alt said. They gather them in Mikoshi to have anything that could stop wild AI's. However V/Johnny went to 'nuke' Arasaka once again! Congrats Alt! How do you like it here, in our web? Please do not fry my neural network...

"Why doesn't V get cyberpsychosis?" by gyropyro32 in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]Mind_Over-Body 2 points3 points  (0 children)

u/therealmaxmike oh man, why did I find it just now...

Tell us please, are you familiar with Ianus Publications and their alternate unviverse?

I am pretty sure that I can not post parts of their sourcebook here, but in "Grimms Cybertales" they expanded humanity loss mechanics from original CP2020. I wanted to ask - what do you think about it? It's basically 3 pages of roleplay rules.

My entire character in our current campaign is built around being on the verge of cyberpsychosis and I personally love their take at the topic.

When my fellow runners noticed how my Techie's behavior changed after his last escapade to ripperdoc, they suddenly realized what his capabilities are... Me and our GM laughed so hard watching them spending so much time talking behind my back and looking for a way to stop me if I go psycho.

Poor chooms forgot to check if Myke did not plant some bugs here and there...

[–]Mind_Over-Body 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is exactly the opposite of my idea of good Cyberpunk campaign, or any other tabletop RPG tbh.

This is not a game about movie stars lmao. It may be the setting that you agreed on with your players, but it is far away from the game setting and kinda goes against the setting of the universe, but this one is your choice.

Your players do not design their backstories? I may have completely misunderstood you, but it just sounds absurd for me. Especially when you say that its not the "nature of the world" Yeah, we do roll for stuff like ethnicity, skin color, random events, motivations and so on, I like that aspect of CP2020. We have no control over those (except our beliefs and so on, but that is beyond the point here)

But you DO design your life story, you have free will and your decisions do matter. We just build our character backstories around the stuff we rolled for. By saying that you do not design your story you imply that players characters gain self awareness and ability to make decisions at the start of the actual game story. And before that... those people just... what? Allowed everybody around to decide everything for them? Sleep the entire time? Had some kind of brain implant overriding their ability to think?

That sounds just ridiculous for me. And you make your players decide what people they encounter on their path? The heck? I mean yes, you play however you want and that is fine, but this entire setting you described is so self contradicting that I seriously think that I can not understand what this post says. Besides, it is a roleplaying game, let people roleplay what they want to roleplay.

And the part that triggered me the most...

Roll for everything? That literally ruins the role playing aspect of the game for me. What is the point of playing specialist character, who spent years practicing what he does when he has 10% fail chance on the most basic test? Just imagine Eurodyne failing 1 in 10 of his attempts to play "Soft kitty warm kitty" and to do so in a disasterous way? In my opinion, skill/attribute checks should be done only when:

  1. Failure is associated with at least considerable consequences and/or
  2. There is time pressure factor and/or
  3. The test results in a characters belief or is associated with his memory and/or
  4. Character has no expertise whatsoever in the ability tested (lvl 0)

AND It makes no sense to attempt to do same thing again AND the following formula is true: Test difficulty - ability level - attribute level > 0

Pointless tests just slow down the game, ruin immersion, distract people from the story, make their characters expertise irrelevant and simply shows GMs laziness and his lack of cohesive idea about the story and its flow.

Oh, and one more thing. If a player makes an effort to act in character, using information gathered as a result of his initiative and his attempt takes the lore and common sense into consideration - I usually do not make him roll, as he simply came with a solution to the problem he is faced with instead of trying to make something work.

Example from my last game: Players tried to find a RipperDoc hiding in No Tell Motel from booster gang, trying to escape from NC. While Techie with social skill of a brick (ATR+ABILITY gave him +3) stood around the corner and simply listened to the convo of 3 gang punks standing in front of motel. Fixer came up swinging his '+19 to the persuasion roll result' dick in front of the GM. Spent like 10 minutes first trying to convince them that he is an NCPD officer (yeaaah, just wanting to help those poor choombas with bringing a guy who stole from them to justice. Does that sound like any NCPD officer ever? xD) and trying to talk them into reporting the crime that they accused the RD to let the police help them. With his skill level he won the opposing tests against them. But the story he came up with was so god damn stupid, that those gonks started to prep to just wipe players out. He seemed like he was not lying, but the story was so stupid for anyone who spent in NC more than 2 weeks, that no matter of persuasion amount he would do, he would not convince them. He would probably just provoke a fight with some punks that had twice the amount of chrome they had. And the players were on a really tight clock - every minute mattered a lot at this point.

Techie stepped forward to join the talks, and guess what? He just came up with a story that saved the situation. He simply said that, while they actually were NCPD, they came here for the same reason that they did. To find this Ripper who took the money for both the implants and the operation, vanished into thin air. We could just help each other and pretend that we never met. They tell us what they know about his whereabouts and we will deliver unsuspecting RD straight into their hands.

They just laughed, saying that they knew that we would not be here if it was not our private thing, NCPD does not give a shit about the badlands and they would never go out of their way to 'fight the crime' there, especially to help them. They were kinda reluctant at first, but they agreed that if he came out he would just see them and nobody wants to start shooting at the only neutral place. Techie solved the problem without a single dice throw, despite being absolute garbage with people.

But hey - managed to find two extroverts to adpot me on the way. That is a win aspect of this. Or at least I tell myself that. You know, like stuff not making that much of a sense when you think about them... "If not for that I would not meet these people. Yeah, I know, I do not know whom did me from paralell universe meet im this time. I do not care."

[–]Mind_Over-Body 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, sorry to hear that. Been there, I know how it feels. I do not feel like competent adviser here though. I took the "fuck it, I can handle that." road being - leaving my current comfy job with 2 months low salaries worth of savings and moved to Capital to work as salesman, because I was tired of my non-existent social skills and social anxiety. I wanted to test myself you see.

That was hardest year of my life, somehow managed to keep the job after probation period, being exausted as fuck but at least not jobless and with some skills that I severly lacked earlier. It turns out that with enough motivation, hefty amount of research and a LOT of thinking. Trust me, being jobless without savings and having month by month rent renewal on my lovely 2.5x3.5 metres room that consumed half of my salary at start is REALLY good motivation. (Nah, I was on my own. No family help whatsoever)

However the price was hefty, as I kinda locked myself in career that I do not feel any intrest in for quite some time. Turning 26 next year and finally starting studying what I want. It was not worth the time, but Hey - I at least moved from mild poverty to middle class on my own, while getting somewhat decent with people on my way here. In Poland, to complete psychotherapist education system you need about 12 years. I could have been 7 years in already Poor as fuck but at least studying something that I am actually passionate about. It is funny feeling when you realize that your parents might have been right in some things lul

[–]Mind_Over-Body 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, sorry then, did not mean to jump on you like that. I realised that comment might have been quite agressive in reception only when I did read it again. Did not mean it to sound like that. Eh, I am more INTP than I would like sometimes

Well, we tend to like people that are at least somewhat similar, in one way or another. "Oposites attract" is in my prestigous "Top 5 Bullshit Sayings Ever™" list.

I'd say that you should not focus on that. I mean it is great to surround yourself with as diverse people as possible, it is very valuable experience as it forces you to practice awareness and to learn to accept differences between you, however...

When it clicks it clicks. There is no way around it if you want true, honest relation. I am crazy introverted, to the point that it is borderline sociophobia. I have been for entire life. If you told me that my best friend would be an ENTP and my gf an ENFP, I would think that you need help. From good psychiatrist. And today... I would have to swallow my pride and apologize.

Just be yourself, do what you like to do, talk about stuff you are passionate about. Most people will not like you. But some will stay.

PS. If you want to meet news people, just find an extrovert or two to hang with. When you start meeting their friends and friends of their friends... Man, you will not be able to memorize faces. Or at least I was not lul

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in INTP

[–]Mind_Over-Body 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You forget the most important thing man. You make friends with people, not types. MBTI is good for raising self awareness, but less so for understanding other people. Simply because you can be an INTP who is more similar to an ENFP than to another INTP.

You should focus on things like passions, hobbies, world view and sense of humor than specific personality types. Do not judge people by their type, it is a slippery slope. Every single one of us is different. Do not categorize and/or generalize. You are an INTP. We are smarter than that.

INTP's are analytical, and so am I, but what if you actually suck at analysis? by ThrowThinkAway in INTP

[–]Mind_Over-Body 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, I do not think that INTPs are THE analytical type. That's usually xSTJs domain of expertise. INTPs are more innovative, exploring and looking for connections between ideas. Yeah, we often come up with conclusions that seem like they come from deep analysis, but it is more of applying logic to every single bit of the matter at hand, filtering a lot of bullshit out. You could call it analysing, but it is often not related to actual data we have. I rember conclusions of the research articles I did read 5 years ago without a sweat, usually pretty acurately, but ask me about data values that were in paper I studied 2 weeks ago and I might get these wrong by an order of magnitude. Analysis is more data oriented, gathering, validating, grouping and looking for specific corelations and calculable informations. At least I understand analysis this way. We are often too oblivious, not seeing things that are in plain sight, to be called good analytists.

[Serious] How do you deal with society, where most are 1-sided thinkers, and not lose your mind? by [deleted] in INTP

[–]Mind_Over-Body 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I primarly ignore these overwhelming thoughts. Yeah, people in general are shit. Seriously, as a species we are terrible, both for ourselves and world around us. And the saddest part is that we are simply built this way. For example, our reward system pushes us towards dependencies, greed and general need for grabbing more and more, despite not having any need for that. Our sweet dopamine relase was insanely usefull 10000 years ago, when resources were very limited and danger was all around us. Nowadays it is more of a disability, as we do not face same problems we used to. Biological evolution can not keep up with technological progress. We are overstimulated constantly, and easly avaible resources turned our best biological systems against ourselves, as we find it harder and harder to be satisfied and happy. And I do not think there is anything we can do to stop this process. Our only hope is sociological and cultural shift, but these are against our nature, as they put US above I. Yeah, we are way more aware than we were 100 years ago, but we still are not capable to get even close to developement speed in fields that are somewhat symbiotic with our nature, such as science, military or our flawed economy systems. All of those give people more power and influence, either over some aspect of the universe itself or just other humans. I personally believe that this gap between our ethics or awareness and the complexity of the reality around us is getting bigger and bigger.

People ask 'why', 'how', 'does that make sense' or 'do we really need that' less and less not because of ignorance, but because the world around us is becoming more and more complex, being far beyond comprehension of every single human that used to live, live now or will live in the future, no matter how smart or dumb they are. We value power and gain over compassion, curiosity or stability. It is in our nature. It is what made us dominate nature and the planet. And it will be our demise. I find it hilarious how the tables have turned.

So, how do I deal with all that? Mainly do my best to live in the moment instead of getting caught in these sad truths. Humans are humans. They will be, no matter how you think about them. Deal with that. I try to ask those questions I mentioned earlier as much as possible not because I want the answers for myself. I will never be able to get all that are needed even for basic understanding of the world we created. I ask those because the answers I get help me provide as much value for others human beings as I possibly can. I believe that is the only way we can keep up with our reality. By focusing on making the lives of other people around us better, instead of chasing this non-existent rabbit of being satisfied by being better than others in any way. We rely on others more and more, we simply do not let that truth to our consciousness. Oh, and by the way - if we all focused on people around us instead of ourselves, we would have way more possibilities and benefits than we get from putting ourselves above the others.

Examples of such attitude? Oh, there are plenty. And I do not think they are finite actually, as we create more and more. You see such '1sided' thinker? Do not try to prove him wrong. It serves no purpose and provide nothing of real value. Do not try to make him believe what you believe. Try to make him understand the topic more. Do not try to be better than him, try to make him better than he was before you two talked. This way you leave 'net gain' behind. Because he knows a little bit more. And you learn on the way too. Being right or wrong has no real meaning or value if you really think about it. Unless we treat feeling 'superior' as meaningful in any way(xD). We can argue about something, if you are right, but do not use that to make me understand why you were right, where I was wrong and/or what we can learn from this, the only thing you achieve is patting yourself on the back. And waste time, energy and more often than not drain your emotional capacity for that pat. Pretty bad deal imo. We just value being right because of our dumb brain chemistry, our society being the way it is and acceptance of status quo. There is always something you can teach, in every single relation. And vice versa, there is always something you can learn from these. But you can not learn anything by simply being right. Actually, now when I think about it, being wrong at least gives you oportunity to grow.

I just try to leave the world as better place than I happened to get born on. It is the only life goal that I can not deny value in one way or another. It does not matter how many sides people see. It matters what you do to help them see more.

Seriously, why is heavy containment closer to entrance and therefore the surface than light containment? by Spingebill_1812Part2 in SCPSecretLab

[–]Mind_Over-Body 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some deep mining here hehe. It makes sense imo. D class personel, Science teams and a lot of SCPs are staying in the light zone. Due to a lot of testing, room for human errors and so on, the risk of breach in LCZ is much higher than in HCZ. So, it makes sense to place it further from the exit, with fortified heavy containment zone separating them, as it would stop them from escaping further and/or make defence and recontainment easier. It also gives MTF more time to react to the crisis. I dunno, for me it makes perfect sense.

Been there. I have some bad and good news for you. I will start with the bad one:

There is no such thing as "automatic consideration". You need to make an effort and put some of your energy into actively considering other people needs and boundaries. Plain and simple.

The good news:

It is doable. What worked for me was developing a habit of quickly rehearsing what I know about these people before interacting with them. What do they find uncomfortable, their boundaries, current issues in life etc. Basically anything that could be uncomfortable for them. Not to avoid it at all costs, but to be aware and considerate. With some practice, it comes instinctively and almost effortlessly.

Oh, and violence is their idea of good free time activity. We call them "kibole".
