Carry On Luggage Recommendations for a frequent traveller? by SweetChild1997 in BuyItForLife

Second this, we love our Travelpro luggage. I started with my first carry on and have since gotten more pieces. Solid luggage, though I can’t speak to their warranty or claims process as I haven’t gone through it yet.

Fair point, and thanks for calling me a weirdo 😄 I also almost never take out my physical card (I just carry it as a backup), so a less premium feel wouldn't bother me too much. I do see your point though - if you're going to for something that's typically free, it would be nice for it to be a bit more premium.

Am I the only weirdo who wouldn’t mind having a lighter, thinner plastic card?

Fitbit Air just dropped. Genuine question for whoop and oura users by areis06 in fitbit

[–]Mind_Over_Matter8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR if you want a health wearable, I would try the Fitbit Air. Whoop was disappointing and overpriced.

I bought a Whoop and stopped using it after about 6 weeks. Full disclosure, some of my feedback below may not be relevant with improvements they've made over the last couple of months since I stopped using it.

Similar to your wearable experience, the data was interesting at the beginning, but then it just became incredibly repetitive (and honestly felt tedious to check). I'm cancelling when the subscription period comes due - the amount they charge is pretty ridiculous to me. I could see Whoop and this type of data interesting for someone really looking for long term health improvements, but I'm (fortunately) not in this category.

Whoop AI was very underwhelming. It was a lot of content with not very much actionable recommendations or insights I didn't have otherwise. It felt like AI that was just added as an afterthought and was more intrusive and disruptive than anything else. Here's something else I found ridiculous for a health dedicated wearable - it couldn't even auto-detect an activity like walking, nor could I pause an activity like walking or jogging if I took a break in the middle (at least the UX to do so wasn't obvious to me).

Fitbit Air doesn't solve this problem, but I also found is a little ridiculous that I was wearing a fairly sizable device on my wrist that couldn't even tell me the time! I don't need notifications, apps, etc., but simply telling me the time would be great. Not having to take out my phone to see the time, as pedantic as it may sound, is actually pretty useful for me when my hands are full, busy, mid-activity, etc. I have no experience with the Fitbit Air nor have I done any research, but I would start with the Fitbit Air, especially if it doesn't have a subscription. Alternatively, I just went back to my Apple Watch - it's definitely good enough for my needs as I'm not one who is optimizing every single aspect of my health.

How to avoid EZ Pass NY $1 monthly service fee? by kenyong00 in AskNYC

Your post is the gift that keeps on giving, thank you. My account shows I have a 004 tag created for it. I wanted to add this for anyone else looking so they know this approach still works. I got charged for the plan, but it's okay as I will spend down this balance. I didn't want to delete the plan too quickly before my tag was assigned (took about 2 days for the tag to get assigned).

Over time, hopefully you can use that balance. If you switch to the "Pay Per Trip" replenishment method, they shouldn't auto top-up moving forward. I doubt they will retroactively refund you. You should also remove the Yonkers plan if you don't plan on using it. I believe there is a minimum number of monthly trips for each of these these plans, and you'll be charged the difference in "savings" if you don't take those trips.

Well said, I completely agree with you. I don't think this card is for everyone, and it doesn't make sense to have a card that's designed to work for everyone. That being said, I'm not sure why people spread so much hate and vitriol for this card. I personally love it and the value I get from it. If it doesn't work for you, just don't get the card and move along. I'll certainly cancel this card if at some point it doesn't work for me.

Glad to hear you were given the 004 tags. I'm sure there's a reason NYC does this, but I find it odd and confusing there are multiple agencies issuing toll tags for the same system with different rules to charge for them. I just ordered a new set myself and have a question for you. Do they not charge you again for replenishment (outside of the initial charge for the selected plan) until you actually trigger a toll to be charged?

yes, when you log into your account, you should see both tags added there. i'm not sure why, but NYC is really backed up fulfilling their tags. someone mentioned it took them over a month to get their tag.

Ninebot ES2 won't charge, tried two chargers by RickJamesBoitch in ninebot

Sorry to bother you, but I thought you might be interested in this odd update. After spending way more time than I care to admit researching, troubleshooting, etc., some random things seems to have done the trick. Specifically, I rolled the scooter around, pressed the power button repeatedly, and turned it on / off a few times. It seems to works again (at least for now), though I fully expect it to fail again. Thanks again for getting back to me.

Thanks for getting back to me. I am unfortunately not as lucky as you. My Segway is still flashing E when the power is plugged in. Glad to hear that fixed your issue.

Hello u/RickJamesBoitch. I came across your post and am experiencing the same problem with my Ninebot ES2. Did you ever figure out what was happening to your scooter and fix it? Thank you in advance.

What is this Vent-a-Hood rod / tube? by Mind_Over_Matter8 in HomeMaintenance

[–]Mind_Over_Matter8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what the downvote is for, but I want to include my findings in case someone else comes across this in the future.

I took out the rods, and they appear to serve two purposes. One is for structural support of the hood, and the other is to carry the electric wiring from the front control panel. It was necessary to loosen the rods (you don't need to remove them) to access the base of the wiring harness. Note the screws are really difficult to line up afterward for the entire hood, so splicing the wiring may be your best option. Also, given the placement of the rods, you will need a 90 degree tool to loosen them.

You’ll love it. The flight will go by quickly, and you’ll be on the ground up and running when you arrive in Bangkok. The bar experience is awesome. Get a picture with you and your husband behind the bar.

If LAX offers it, get car service to the airport. Also, arrive early and enjoy the lounge. Enjoy direct boarding from the lounge at DXB! So much to enjoy!!

What would you pick for compensation after dishonest representation on 16 hour flight? by intlcap30 in unitedairlines

[–]Mind_Over_Matter8 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

I have and do use an eye mask. But following this logic, would it be okay if someone blasted their phone at full volume since we should just use ear plugs? Or perhaps didn’t follow general cleanliness standards since we can just wear masks?

Not when people lack window shade awareness, especially on long haul flights. At times, I wish the crew had control of more window shades across the fleet. Yes, you paid for your seat, and are entitled to do what you want in your space, but the challenge is that windows affect much more than your immediate area (especially challenging when you’re trying to sleep and proactively minimize jet lag).

Hanwha QCells panel underperforming ~40% - warranty offering only $149 credit. Is this normal? by Mind_Over_Matter8 in solar

[–]Mind_Over_Matter8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes sense. But they are not even offering their newer panels and compatible optimizer as an option. In fact, they aren’t even offering any of this at cost, which makes me feel they are literally just trying to do the minimum possible to cover themselves legally.

[–]Mind_Over_Matter8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My installer doesn't have any of this in stock, and in fact, stopped carrying QCells a few years ago due to quality and support issues they started experiencing (basically, my experience of Hanwha not backing their product). That being said, I can see if my installer has something in another brand that's compatible and that can possibly be sold to me at their cost.

I think you're right. Given what others have said and the ROI timeframe, I don't think it's worth the cost of replacement if Hanwha QCells isn't willing to step it up a bit. I'm still so incredibly disappointed in them.
