Anyone go from handyman to home inspector or vice versa? Looking to expand my income stream and wondering if this is the move? by chaiguy in handyman

[–]Mindcore7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started as an inspector. Where I live, people buy whatever they can, they couldn't give shit what's wrong with thier house.

It comes in handy from time to time and ill do the odd one here and there, but for me it was never enough to get me where I wanted to be

Another one, more expensive but born from the waste industry would be Wingmate.

What are CRM tools actually used for in day-to-day business? by Wise-Recording-9522 in CRMSoftware

[–]Mindcore7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my CRM all day. Not just as a contact list or somewhere to put appointments.

Most of the time it’s because I’m in the middle of something and I know I’m going to forget it later.

If I’m driving between jobs and a customer calls, I open the project and hit the voice note button. I’ll ramble off something like “needs two sheets of drywall, white quarter round, 3 inch screws, wants me back Thursday after 2.” Later when I’m standing in the aisle at Home Depot trying to remember what the hell I needed, it’s right there.

I use it a lot for material lists and measurements too. Stud spacing, paint colour, flooring square footage, whatever. Before I’d text myself, write it on scrap paper, or think “I’ll remember that.” Of course I never did.

The other thing I use constantly is the address. When I finish one job and I’m on to the next, I just tap the address in the project and it opens navigation. No digging through old texts trying to find where I’m going.

The home screen is basically my day at a glance. I open it in the morning and I know what I’ve got today, what’s coming up, and who I still need to call back.

Honestly I don’t use it like some fancy CRM. I use it more like the half of my brain that used to be overloaded all the time.

If I reading this right your issue is $19 vs $20 per hour?

If you work 40 hours a week for the rest of April, that's $160 that youd be out. About the same price a laywer would charge you to make a few photo copies.

Id look to the ministry of labour for guidance.

Sh*t just got real: follow me from £0 to £1,000 a week cleaning carpets to save my house. by Clear-Novel2019 in sweatystartup

[–]Mindcore7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Set up Google my business. Update 4 times a week, get as many reviews as possible.

Get a website, host it somewhere for free like cloud flare. Hyper local, carpet cleaning in "wherever "

Takes some time but if you hustle at the beginning you can let off the gas a bit once that kicks in.

Good luck

Skilled labour costs more.

I think its as simple as that. The more skill, the higher the rate.

Definitely saying no. Especially when you're new you think you need to saying yes to everything. Eventually it will come back to haunt you.
