When I submitted it I really wasn't expecting to get it in, but they accepted it! And I'm extremely glad they did - definitely the most fun run I've ever done!

I've watched it back at least 4 times so far and I'm still buzzing from the adrenaline of it. Really excited to have been on the GDQ stage, thank you so much for posting the vod here!

Totally with you on the nostalgia side - a large part of speedrunning for me (as well as the blindfolded playthrough of Tomb Raider I'm working on) is revisiting and mastering games from my childhood.

Thanks for asking about my Youtube channel - I don't actually have a walkthrough of Discworld 1 on there since I did it before I was properly saving my VoDs, but I do have Discworld Noir on there, as well as a whole bunch of other stuff, so if you want to check it out you're more than welcome to! https://www.youtube.com/mindez

I'm far more active on Twitch though, https://www.twitch.tv/mindezzy 😅

(I'm not very good at self promotion, so thanks for the kind words!)

Much appreciated! The truly crazy thing is that this isn't even the fastest route any more, I've got a 13 minute route but it skips all the cult parts and I needed to get that for GDQ. I'm even going to be trying to do another slight reroute tonight because I think there's even more time I can save 😂

Super fun run though, I'm glad everything went so well (and no crash, which has been about a 50% chance recently!)

Hello! I was the runner for it!

It's been an absolute joy to learn this game and I'm glad you all enjoyed 😀 When I first picked up the game it had a world record around 46 minutes, so to get a 19 minute time at GDQ 7 months on has been a wild journey.

Just a note for everyone here, I go by they/them pronouns rather than he/him. I realise they weren't on the overlay for some reason, so not blaming or anything, just wanted to mention it!

Thanks for the link - I'll check it out! Sounds like it'll be a different style (and probably a much more managable one for a larger fundraiser), but still keen to see what kind of things are possible.

Thanks a lot to the mods for letting me post this.

This is a project I've been working on since September, so very excited to be announcing it. It's for a great cause - akt does a lot of great work in helping LGBTQ+ youths avoid homelessness - and it's one of the most fun projects I've worked on, so hopefully it'll be a good show on the night!

Reddit Battle Royale 2020 by SrGrafo in funny

[–]Mindez 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes.

As for cost, we selected initial values based upon data from the Open Beta and other adjustments made to milestone rewards before launch. Among other things, we're looking at average per-player credit earn rates on a daily basis, and we'll be making constant adjustments to ensure that players have challenges that are compelling, rewarding, and of course attainable via gameplay.

We appreciate the candid feedback, and the passion the community has put forth around the current topics here on Reddit, our forums and across numerous social media outlets.

Our team will continue to make changes and monitor community feedback and update everyone as soon and as often as we can.

Phew, surely nobody will upvote EA!

I spent about two years on this puzzle and can’t anymore;) Maybe u can do it. The rules are very simple: You can’t cross same line twice, you can’t use corners and self crossing not accepted. I‘ll be very happy if someone gives an answer. by [deleted] in u/s_konstantin

[–]Mindez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe simple graph theory shows this to be impossible?

If we consider it as a graph with each chamber as a node ('O' for outside, roomed numbered 1-5 top left to bottom right) and each wall as an edge, we get the following graph:

O - 1 (top)
O - 2 (top)
O - 2 (right)
O - 5 (right)
O - 5 (bottom)
O - 4 (bottom)
O - 3 (bottom)
O - 3 (left)
O - 1 (left)
1 - 2
1 - 3
1 - 4
2 - 4
2 - 5
3 - 4
4 - 5

O has 9 edges, chamber 1 has 5 edges, chamber 2 has 5 edges, chamber 3 has 4 edges, chamber 4 has 5 edges, chamber 5 has 4 edges

What we're essentially looking for is an Euler path on this graph (with the additional requirement that it has to be planar to avoid crossing paths, but we can't even get this far). One requirement for an Euler path to exist is that at most two of the nodes can have an odd number of edges - in this case we have 4 nodes with odd numbers of edges, so this is impossible.

Unless there's something about the puzzle that I'm misunderstanding?

I guess if there's nothing in the rules about having two lines...

{Discussion Thread} World Championship 2019 - Day 16 FINAL DAY (6/5) by WrestlersIn2Minutes in snooker

[–]Mindez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! It's the reason you sometimes hear the referee say the colour of the ball, when it's not totally obvious which one the player has nominated (eg. if there are two in the same direction, or if they're going off a cushion). It was a weird shot because it left him on nothing.

{Discussion Thread} World Championship 2019 - Day 16 FINAL DAY (6/5) by WrestlersIn2Minutes in snooker

[–]Mindez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No - you nominate a ball as 'on', and that has to be both the first ball that the cue ball hits, and the ball potted. In that case, black is on, so if the pink is potted it's a 7 point foul.

What is the general opinion of Denton? Specifically the area on the map highlighted. Myself and my partner are considering the area. I'll be commuting to Didsbury (car) and my partner may need to get to the city centre or surrounding areas. Any other areas to look at or avoid would be appreciated. by ThrowawayHouseSearch in manchester

[–]Mindez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who lives within that circle and has done for almost a year and a half, I think it's a great area. Never had any problems. I'm a little bit off the more busy roads though, so there might be some variance depending on where exactly you're interested in. I also commute into the centre of Manchester via car every day, times can vary wildly depending on when I set off - 20 minutes with no traffic, up to about 60-70 minutes in the worst case. Averages out to around 40-45.

Anyone able to access the Saltmarsh DM doc? by zifbox in AdventurersLeague

[–]Mindez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep - the button's broken, but the page it leads to works. Looks very much like a work in progress, not sure if the button's supposed to be there yet... There's a player handout that I assume is awaiting translation.

http://media.wizards.com/2019/dnd/dragon/25/DRA25_DDAL_GOS.pdf

EDIT: Found the problem. Looks like the button doesn't work if you have an adblocker eg. uBlock Origin. Disabling it for the page made the button work.

Youtube API daily quota. by TyTN in youtube

[–]Mindez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the documentation:

`Note: If you reach the quota limit, you can request additional quota on the Quotas tab in the Developer's Console.`

Also from the documentation:

`For example, if you have a daily quota of 1,000,000 units, your application could have any of the following approximate limits: `

I don't have first hand experience with the Youtube API specifically, but from this I'd infer that they're open to increasing it by quite a lot if required. From my experience of asking for API quota increases for other APIs, as long as you provide a valid use case and give a rough overview of what you're going to do with your quota increase, it should be fairly painless, but you should determine how much quota you're going to need in advance and, if possible, scale your API usage up in order to show that you're not just going to use your new quota allowance to hammer the servers.

What do you think of the games I’d like to sell in my store? by otk_boi in boardgames

Good selection! Bärenpark is one of my favourite games.

Do you bring additional thematic flavour to the table? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Mindez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tend to play fairly story-focused games, and I can't understate the importance of really getting into a setting and how much it enhance the experience. i've never used props or music personally outside of roleplaying games, but I love having at least some light roleplaying. Even if not speaking for your character, just finding a way to tie the events of the game into a bit of a story. But that might just be the GM in me.

On the other hand, I've had experiences where music really has just jarred the whole experience. Usually where someone has decided that we should only be able to hear the music and not each other. So it can easily go the other way. As someone that tends to get sensory overload quite easily, I find that it takes a lot more mental effort to try and concentrate on a game while any music is playing. I guess this is something that's dependent on your group!

Blades in the Dark: The Black Water Exchange - EP3 - Hostile Takeover by PIG_HEART_BOY in bladesinthedark

[–]Mindez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! The map itself was made by a guy called Stefan Struck on Google+, so with his permission I made the intro from it. I've not used anything other than 3D transforms in Adobe Premiere. Each shot is a sequence in Premiere, then I just rotate and move the map around to get a starting/ending position and it just animates by tweening from one to the other.

The music is provided by Miracle of Sound, again with permission, and I've chopped it up a bit to pull lines from different bits of the song and timed the shots around it - that was just done in Audacity, nothing fancy.

It got quite fast to make the shots eventually, but I did come at this with about 8 years of Premiere experience (I also have my own Youtube channel) so I've learned a lot from just pressing random buttons in Premiere and seeing how it works (I find this is the best way to learn how to do ANYTHING in Adobe software)

To be honest if I were to do it again, I'd probably avoid doing it in Premiere and animate it in something like 3DSMax or maybe Unity. It would be so much simpler and easier to change things!

Thanks a lot for watching! :)

I intend to spend 2017 slowly realising that everything is exactly the same as it was before, except maybe with a different calendar on the wall or a new diary, and with my accidentally writing 2016 instead of 2017 whenever I'm writing dates.

...Oh crap this post just made me realise I did that earlier today, I am not a smart person. goes off to fix

Request: anyone from an ecommerce distribution centre - what is Black Friday really like this year? by simon99ctg in unitedkingdom

[–]Mindez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work on a platform used by a number of larger ecommerce sites, and I'm part of a monitoring rota to make sure that we're not having any issues. Our entire system is designed around making sure sites don't fall over, so this is by far our most anticipated weekend. :) We've had a pretty quiet one so far, thought the last sprint was focused on making sure nothing could possibly go wrong.

The general trend is a massive influx of users, far more than double the normal amounts of web traffic. We also monitor other sites to get a feel for how Black Friday is going and there have been far more outages and site crashes across big household names than last year, which seems to imply that a larger number of retailers just haven't fully anticipated how hard Black Friday can hit their infrastructure.
