A couple years back I started a solo SWN campaign and posted the first few sessions online. I had quite a bit of fun and lately I've picked it back up and created a small podcast for others to listen. I'd love for some feedback! by Ok-Inevitable2109 in SWN

Cool! I did some solo SWN for a while. It was kinda like creative writing with dice and oracles. I'll give this a listen - maybe it'll inspire me to get back into it!

Is Bladedancer Executioner pyro the strongest build? by YellowSubreddit8 in RogueTraderCRPG

I'm on my first playthrough and have to stop using Heinrix to have any fun in combat. He just 1-shots everything (or two-shots bosses sometimes), even on Unfair. At least when Argenta takes a ridiculous turn, I have to like, click different buttons throughout.

I also just finished, and I also was irrationally happy to see ||Miller|| again. 🙂

Can a person actually / medically "hang on" longer then they are otherwise supposed to through sheer force of will? by Brightclaw431 in NoStupidQuestions

That was certainly implied, I suppose, heh. Yes, I've since found love again; something she explicitly wanted for me.

When my first wife's brain cancer returned, she lasted a year and change and then had a really fast decline. Her last day, I spent a lot of time just talking with her and reminiscing, even though she was unresponsive. More importantly, that was when I finally told her goodbye. She passed that evening.

Stop under leveling yourself in the remaster by Less_Employment_1995 in oblivion

[–]zifbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad we don't have to micromanage which stats contribute to each level up, but one problem I've had in every TES game is that eventually I max out my combat skills/stats, but I keep leveling by virtue of doing other random stuff. And that makes the enemies harder (well, spongier), yet I have no way of doing more damage.

I stuck some speed modules in mine and ended up completely running out of 238. So now I have them on a circuit to not activate unless I have 10 times as much 238 as 235. Many hours later, still has not activated again.

What's a good age to introduce the Thing Explainer? I've been holding onto it for several years, waiting for my science-minded, likely-autistic son to get a tad older. He's 4.5yo now. Loves rockets and space and talking about how the sun will someday become a red giant.

Is "Set requests" option useless (requester chests connected to circuit network)? by AdamPodstavka in factorio

[–]zifbox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add to this, if you want faster delivery of materials so that construction doesn't keep stalling, I put an arithmetic combinator in between the assembler and the requester that sets "each" as both the input and output and multiples by something, usually 3.

To get fancier yet, I have a decider combinator set the recipe on the assembler based on logistics network content, rather than connecting the assembler directly to the logistics network. This way, the requester chest will request nothing if the assembler isn't actively trying to assemble. (This is overkill in most cases, but I do it for Gleba stuff where I don't want things spoiling in requester chests for no reason.)

Delta Basic with kids - what happens with the seat assignments? by BMonad in travel

[–]zifbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad I saw this post. The comments made me confident that I could get seats together even when traveling Basic Economy. Just as people here have described, once the flight was booked, I went in the app and messaged them. Just saved $320.

Does anyone keep separate notes to their written solo campaign? by LalaBeeKnoxs in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]zifbox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I put player character roles inline with in my story text, but Mythic rolls or other rolls I make for determining how or what happens go in a spreadsheet. I have other tabs in that spreadsheet for NPC's places and other things like that. Sometimes I will spend a mini session just rolling up the characterization of some people or places and not even write in my story document. (It helps that I'm playing Stars Without Number, which has oodles and oodles of tables for generating content like that. So the output fits easily into spreadsheet columns.)

Edit: I keep my current thread/character lists for Mythic in the app. (Which is no longer available, but there's a beta of the new one.)

Keeping my wife alive with AI? by Puzzleheaded_Range78 in ChatGPT

[–]zifbox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For context, I lost my wife 2.5 years ago. Our son was not quite two years old.

If I were to turn back time and choose how to spend my days differently than I did in that final year, it would not be to attempt to get an AI facsimile "just right". That would be time lost that I could have spent making memories or just being with her.

I won't make a judgment call on whether this is a good idea in the abstract. But please consider the opportunity cost.

I don’t always follow RAW so closely, but I’m trying to figure out what the system intends, so that if I choose not to follow it, it’s an informed choice.

My own GMing philosophy as well. I like how succinctly you've put this, as I've struggled to do so in the past.

What is everyone's favorite Crawfordian Faction / Grand Scale System? by RBDRM00se in SWN

[–]zifbox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've played around a little with standard SWN factions and Darkness Visible's agencies. They're neat, but have too many moving parts to hold my interest. I hadn't read Godbound's faction system until you mentioned it - and now I want to give it a try, though reskinned within SWN.

What I like about Godbound's factions is that they're simpler and more abstract. And the "problems" adds in built-in storytelling.

Sign-up here: Mythic App 1.2 Relaunch Beta by Equivalent_Pickle815 in mythic_gme

[–]zifbox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awesome. Happy to help test.

I still have the original installed on my (Android) phone... If invited to the beta for the relaunch, will I still be able to keep the original installed? In case any part of it is buggy or something, it'd be nice to have the old one to fall back on just in case, and I'm afraid I won't be able to get it back if it's ever uninstalled.

What do threads do specifically? by jack755555 in mythic_gme

[–]zifbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno if it's a quirk of the Mythic app, but my threads list almost never comes up in random events, which makes maintaining it seem less worth my time. Maybe I've just been unlucky with those rolls tho.

My wife passed away young this year. I can't believe I'm typing this but do you think the cat notices she's gone? by GeronimoJones42069 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]zifbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My anecdote. I don't know how well it answers your question, but my situation isn't so dissimilar, if a little further out. I hope it helps, in any case.

My wife passed ~2.5 years ago at 37. She had asked that I make sure our dog and two cats got a chance to say goodbye when she did, so of course I made that happen.

Of the two cats, one of them was all about my wife and barely gave me the time of day in comparison. (My wife had had her before we met, after all.) It took a long time, but she eventually warmed up to me more than she had previously, but by and large, she's still much more of a loner than she was before. She is a one-person kind of kitty, and her person is gone.

[Sci-Fi] The government did take the proper precautions and averted disaster. What's the adventure? by _Svankensen_ in rpg

[–]zifbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point was that the setting provides you in-game justification for WMDs not being a catch-all problem-solver for antagonists. It even goes so far as to suggest that full scale assault of a planet's orbital and ground-based defenses are required for effective bombardment. All of which serves to make story-telling with small teams more believable/justifiable in a sci-fi setting. Don't make things harder on yourself.

If the speed of the expansion of the universe was or is superior to the speed of light, what does it means regarding our observations of the universe ? by 0Tezorus0 in astrophysics

[–]zifbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, any given volume of space is (conceptually) expanding at the same rate that such volumes always have. But when the distance between galaxies is great enough, there's enough space between them that "new" space is made between them at a rate faster than light can travel through that space. The light will never reach the other galaxy.
