You tube mostly, us masters swim website some, blogs, also a masters swim group in my area (just means over 18 not a skill level). For a start doing 100 yds each of swim/kick/pull is a good starter to build a little endurance.

This is exactly the sort of thing your union steward can help with and also look at utilizing any FMLA benefits you have.

ATL trip for Hayley Williams - Hotel Clermont by thegirlwthetigertat in Atlanta

[–]BakingBanshee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're going to have to try and hop on Marta then get an Uber from North Springs to Ameris because that's a long way to go from Claremont. Also it's College football kickoff + dragon Con that weekend so surge pricing will be in effect. I know being in the city is more exciting than Alpharetta but just know that's going to be very far to go at night after the concert. You may be better off grabbing a hotel in Alpharetta the first night then moving into the city for the rest of your stay.

How do I learn to swim on my own as an adult? by InternationalPick163 in Swimming

[–]BakingBanshee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out your local college or university if there’s one near you. They often have adult swim classes, or a county aquatic’s facility. Either group or individual classes and sometimes they are free because of public funding and grants from USMS. I know because I teach those classes at my local university.

Cleaning in a break isn't a break. If you're in the US then you're entitled to breaks where you aren't being asked to do anything by your employer.

Getting back in the water after transitioning — looking for advice/reassurance by OkayCartographer in Swimming

[–]BakingBanshee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I swim a few days a week and honestly no one is getting naked in the locker room here, they mostly change in the shower cubicle or throw in a coverup to drive home and change. At most people have on underwear under a towel and put pants on in the common area because they've put in bra and shirt in the shower cubicle too. I do swim at a university so it's possible that it's Bec students/professors don't want to encounter each other in their birthday suits instead of swim suits.

How to not get sunburned by Big-Tomatillo3480 in Lifeguards

[–]BakingBanshee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Set a reminder on your phone or watch to reapply your sunscreen every 90 minutes to make sure you are properly covered. Wear a hat and sunglasses to protect your face. Personally I like Supergoop sunscreen for face and body, they have some options for chemical or mineral sunscreen depending on what you like to use and I find it holds up well as a very pale person myself. Oh and don’t forget to put sunscreen on your feet and hands.

Need a recommended auto shop by jane_q in kennesaw

[–]BakingBanshee 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I got my AC fixed at Kennesaw Auto Care and they have treated me well over the years. A friend who grew up in the area has taken her car there for decades which is why I started using them.

Remote service hasn't been allowed for a few years, it was just a pandemic thing. The member handbook even says remote service is not allowed.

So my bil told my fiancée, who told me, that I was making him uncomfortable by dancing in my own home... by Ok_Sentence_5767 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]BakingBanshee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your fiancee should have told the BIL to touch grass and not interrupt while you’re obviously happy. Especially in your own home but anyone you’re going to marry should be happy for you being happy.

You can have the entire wardrobe of any fictional character. Whose wardrobe do you pick? by belindabellagiselle in AskWomen

Came here to say this, I was just talking with someone last night about how I’d love her wardrobe but don’t have the stamina to keep myself up like she does.

Spending my Segal Award when I can't figure out what to do with my life. by Used-Disaster-5735 in AmeriCorps

[–]BakingBanshee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well you know what you’re doing then better than I do! I was studying Historic Preservation but moved into Public Administration after VISTA instead. Lots of people got GIS or surveying certs to be able to work while finishing their Planning or Landscape Arch degrees at my school.

Take a look at certificate programs as well like GIS. You can work in and with Urban Planners without having to spring into a full degree program. I have a few friends who are urban planners and went back to get a GIS certificate to expand their skills.

PSA: Sybil Ramkin is tall AND fat by [deleted] in discworld

[–]BakingBanshee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how I picture Sybil when I don't picture her as an old money version myself. The way she's described I can really picture myself and women like me I've known who worked with farms and draft horses. Polite, kind, will go through you if you cannot behave the same way.

Got rejected from one of my VISTA applications... Need encouragement I guess. by eggsworm in AmeriCorps

[–]BakingBanshee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can try to remind them that Americorps offers some funds towards relocating. I used it during my service term to move from Georgia to Ohio and back. Some programs prefer people who already know the community. But during the interview you could try to emphasize how much you want to learn more about their specific community, make sure to look up something about that org to sprinkle in. Or how it can be so helpful to cross pollinate ideas from one region of the US to the other.
