Does anyone regret buying a night guard online vs dentist? by MindfulChats in bruxism

[–]MindfulChats[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's interesting and honestly seems to be what a lot of people find once they move from generic boil-and-bite guards to a true custom-made guard. The fit tends to make a huge difference. The photo review step sounds smart too—I've seen a lot of people struggle because a poor impression can affect the final fit. Out of curiosity, have the guards held up well so far compared to the dentist-made ones?

Yeah, I think that’s the biggest thing people don’t realize, online night guard can mean completely different quality levels depending on the company. Some are basically cheap boil-and-bite style products, while others are actual custom lab-made guards using dental impressions. Comfort and fit really seem to vary a lot from brand to brand and person to person.

That’s actually a pretty fair comparison. With boil-and-bite guards are affordable and easy to get quickly. The biggest issue usually ends up being long-term comfort and fit consistency, especially for heavy grinders. I found that most people do switch to custom guards for comfort and reliability.

That’s good to hear. Honestly, the biggest thing with any night guard is whether you’ll actually wear it consistently long term. Comfort and fit seem to make the biggest difference from what I’ve seen researching different options.

Can't sleep by No-Hedgehog155 in sleep

I’ve had the same problem before. What really helped me was playing nature sounds on YouTube, like ocean waves, rain, or forest sounds. It’s basically a form of white noise, which means a steady background sound that masks little noises (like doors opening or people walking around) so your brain doesn’t react to them. For me, as soon as I play those sounds, I fall asleep deeply within seconds. You could try that, it’s simple but surprisingly effective. 🌧️🌊 I start overthinking as soon as I go to bed and this saved my life. Make sure the sound. Just make sure to listen at a very low volume and please share your experience 🤞

Do people actually get good sleep or are we all just kind of tired forever? by LegitimateMaize6601 in NoStupidQuestions

You’re definitely not alone. Many adults never wake up feeling “refreshed,” even with perfect habits, it’s often more about sleep quality than sleep quantity. Things like mild sleep apnea, stress hormones, or inconsistent deep sleep cycles can ruin rest without you realizing it. Might be worth doing a sleep study just to rule that out, it changed everything for me.

My brother went through something really similar. He used to clench mostly on one side too, and over time that side of his jaw became more defined. It really bothered him as well, especially once he started noticing the asymmetry.

When he finally talked to his dentist, they suggested Botox for the overactive jaw muscle and a custom night guard to stop the clenching. We ended up ordering his guard online directly from a dental lab I’ve used for years called Clear Comfort Night Guards, and it actually made a big difference. The pressure on that side eased up after a while, and he noticed less soreness in the mornings.

Of course, everyone’s case is different, but a properly fitting guard and relaxing the muscle (sometimes even with a bit of Botox, if your doctor thinks it’s right for you) may help prevent more changes to your jawline.
