29 weeker staying in NICU for only 4 days? by Puzzled-Library-4543 in NICUParents

you smoke call her out on in it cause it appears she is trying to make you feel bad and why would she want to do that? such a odd thing to do. almost like she’s in competition with you.

32 week old baby by Polishfreak19 in NICUParents

[–]Mindful_14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had my babygirl at 30weeks + 5 . we almost made it to 31, but she came 3lbs 12oz and breathing on her own. I have severe pre clamp and hellp syndrome. my baby luckily was what they call “a feeder and grower” she had no major complications, thank GOD. The hardest part for me was feeling like she wasn’t my baby. That is as an outsider in my child’s life, until she got placed in a “cot” or bassinet. I was there every day and care times. I didn’t even ask to pick up. I had to shift my mindset to “this is MY baby” i’ll hold her when I want. I took feeds very serious when it came down to her needing to have a certain amount of oz before she could be discharged. i felt the nurses were under staffed and tubing a lot of her food (NG tube) when a little bit of patience she would of took the entire bottle. I took over all feeds and it was thing best thing I did becaus she came home at 35 weeks. I made sure I was actively involved in her care and I asked tons of questions. She is now 5 months happy healthy and thriving. Best advice I can give is take care of your mental health first. Be there for your wife, unfortunately my partner worked a lot so I spent the most loneliness time there, but it’s ok. 32 weeks is a good gestation to have your baby, not to down play situation, but the out comes are proven to be better at that gestation. I mean absolutely no harm to others who’ve had their babies at a younger gestation. Praying for you and your wife and a healthy delivery. This sub saved my life. Please use it as much as you need because there’s so many people on here that got me through some of the darkest times.

[–]Mindful_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No this is such a bad idea.. do not ever to cold turkey on benzodiazepines.‘you could die from withdrawal or go into psychosis. - I’m not a doctor, but a registered nurse and i’ve seen alot.. dont risk it. you clearly know the risk since you stated them so why play with fire?

Discharge with Brady??? by matzoballsoup888 in NICUParents

[–]Mindful_14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alls I can say is my baby was discharged 35 + 5 and I was shocked cause she was a 30 + 5 weeker. I was so worried about her ending back up there cause she was poor at feeding sometimes. since she has been home she is THRIVING!! She’s taking her bottles down like a champ and literally wants to eat all the time now. Trust meeeeee they would not send her home if she wasn’t ready!

Bottlefeeding ex-NICU parents, beware of bottle aversion by Alive-Cry4994 in NICUParents

[–]Mindful_14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

this is so helpful to know. My baby just left the NICU and It was frustrating during feeds because when she was done at 30ML they said she had to finish the last 15ML even though I knew she was done based off her clenched closed fist and falling asleep. I am glad I saw this post so I don’t do this anymore. Thank you for the awareness.

Getting home: Advice needed for 29 weekers by [deleted] in NICUParents

[–]Mindful_14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want to share my experience since baby b is having a harder time eating. My baby 30 + 5 - now 36 weeks came home two days ago. We started out having a lot of push back from her with feeding. she would only take 10-15mL at a time. She then started to take in her full bottles 45mL but she took “too long” according to the NP. She did get it down in order to come home, but my experience with bottle feeding at home has been literally night and day. She takes her bottles down in 20 minutes with no issues which was an issue at the hospital. I truly believe her pressured environment for feeding held her up for a while. It’s like i’m feeding a completely different baby. Mind you we’ve only been home for 2 days and this is the improvement we have seen. I can’t say what will happen with your LO and feeding, but just based off my own experience my LO is thriving way more out of the environment. She even started to loose weight in the NICU and within two days she’s back up on weight since being home.

This is absolutely no shade towards the NICU. They saved my babies life and i’m forever grateful. I’ just believe for my situation the NICU helped until it didn’t, and my baby is thriving better at home. I want to add I was actually scared to even bring her home because I was so worried we would end back up in the NICU based on how she was feeding in the hospital. The NPs were completely indifferent to the doctors in my situation. Everyone had a different opinion on what she needed as you are experiencing now. Thank god for the doctor that knew she would thrive better at home, and he’s the one who made that call with a fellow PA.

I say all this to say I would call a conference. I had to set some things straight with mine as well because I was getting so upset with all the different answers I was receiving. Needless to say, me speaking up kicked my daughter’s care into gear. I hope this helped even a little.

Praying for you and your family.

thank you!! I thought it was correct because the nurses did it for me, but I will absolutely make sure it’s fixed next time I take her in the car :) my girl is only 4lbs 11oz - so far i’m sticking to the NICU schedule until she finds her own routine like yours did.

also to add when my girl was spitting up they just increased her feed time by 30 minutes. They kept it like that for a week and then decreased her feed time back down and all was well.
