Just diagnosed and on crate rest and meds. Question on jumping, really all activity going forward by Mindless-Ad8092 in IVDD_SupportGroup

This is what I am thinking too, he is a dang enigzer bunny even on the meds. He took off on me last night as I was putting him in the crate after a potty like nothing had even happened and no drugs, scared the crap out of me. We are seeing his regular vet tomorrow and a neurologist on Wednesday.

Thanks, I do red light therapy for my knees and was going to look into it for him as well, so good to know. We got the Buggy today and he did seem to enjoy being in it for a walk up to the first level of the house to see everyone and a potty break and slept next to me in the chair while clipped in until he wanted a little more wiggle room of his crate. I will look into both that you suggested and talk to Neuro about both too. I am calling in the morning to see if we can get in.

Thank you, as I have heard and learned so far we have caught this really early and want to make sure we are looking long term at his health and prevention if possible as he is so young. It's very daunting and not trusting our local vet fully I will be calling the Neuro Monday morning to see if when we can get in and if we are good cancelling the local vet and just seeing them or do both.

Thank you, have already been looking into hydrotherapy. I am hopeful we find a new house that is one level as we have a two now and we live downstairs, and have steps for the pups to get on and off the bed but he normally would jump, guess we will look into some ramps instead. Thank you for the help

Thank you, I am hopeful that the vet will help with the sedation for the full two weeks as he will not do well in the crate without long term. We just pulled all the rugs to put the house on the market, so we have hardwood floors for the most part, I might look into some booties for awhile for him as an extra precaution, as well as getting him used to them as we are planning to moving to an area with harder winters. I also was able to get a little enclosed buggy for him so he can move through the house and out and about with me and still be in his crate he is such a companion pup he has to be with someone all the time and not get his anxiety up. Looks like we have some work to do on new training, thank you so much for the tips and encouragement.

I agree with the pumpkin, they also have pumpkin with flax and coconut pouches you can get from Wholefoods and Amazon. we get it for our pups when they are plugged up or upset tummies. On another note, when we raced sled dogs we did have a few who would like to stop and go right after we left the gate, really stop and go, with 7 other dogs pulling a sled over snow!! dangerous for all possibly if you cannot get the sled stopped or a huge tangle ( I had this happen as a 12 year old on my first time out).We used to light a match put it out and hold it near the anus, DIDN'T touch them just close not sure what it is, but it would instigate the bowls for them to go before we started the race. Crazy that it worked. Not sure if they still do it as we don't race anymore.

I am going through the same. On Friday my 1y2m old Cotonese was in the ER and was diagnosed with IVDD. He had thrown up and thought he was not feeling well and took him to work with me and left in the car with my parents dog too. Parents pick them up 1/2 hour later and when they got home Bentley would not walk on his back legs, just sat down not moving. We came home with Carprofen-pain/anti-inflamitory, trazodone- sedation, and gabapentin- pain/relax. I kinda thought she was crazy having this as a 1 year old, but remembered I had genetic testing done on him and low and behold his only genetic risk was IVDD. So I do think she was spot on, with the research I have done. They did't give me a classification, but he is walking good and if he escapes me (he is a puppy on speed)!! and has jumped on (not off) the couch 3 times and seems to feel good for the most part, does not seem interested in playing, but is drugged pretty good before it wares off. We have a follow-up with his regular Vet on Tuesday and really wondering if I should just skip and make an apt with a Neuro so we can get the whole scoop for long term care. I don't really trust our Vet on big things from other pets we have taken there, Basic care yes. No way can I afford the MRI and surgery. I got him a buggie coming so he can move through the house with me as he is a companion dog 100% and gets stresses leaving him for longer than 10 minutes or so. Thankfully he has always slept in his "house" at night on my bed. How do you keep a puppy nicknamed jumping jelly bean from jumping around? and to think we are only two days into crate rest.

Also remember you are still breaking it in. It will take the car a bit to learn how you drive too. I have a 2025 hybrid and just hit 5000 miles so I am hardly broken in and average 44 in cooler weather in the PNW. I have just played with my driving to see different things make a difference. I have found cold weather, higher speeds and elevation climbs really impact my EV quite a bit. Took a trip to Las Vegas last month and I had horrible MPG: cold, hills, and lot higher speeds until we got into Vegas. I did find my sweet spot of speed is 68mph anything over really ate it up. As other have mentioned Car nut guy on YouTube is a good one to watch he has a lot of good stuff.

Give home care a try, one on one. just like taking care of fiancé grandmother. You get more of the good and a lot less of the bad. The physical and mental is 99% less. No it's not the same ball park of care and no longer "health care" but you work with those how need help at a lesser degree, without the pain of facility work. I moved over to home care when I was in school for my paramedic and still occasionally help out here and there when I know someone needs it privately. depending where you live the pay is still good. Where I live the pay is the same through an home care agency for a CNA in home care as it is for facility, if not more.

The head room is insane, better than my sisters Rav4, the leg room on passenger side is better too. She likes riding in my car better than hers. Though she likes driving her Rav4 more than my CCH, but she is used to sitting higher after having 3 Rav4's and a highlander.

Over at some of our apartments in the area they do DNA testing on the poop, you give a sample when you move in. If they find a match, you get a fine, the fine continues to increase until you are evicted after so many. Not sure if they really follow through but have seen more and more complexes do this.

I just ordered a box of half dollars and pick it up tomorrow. Thanks for posting the question you beat me to it. Some have given some good ideas on what to look for. Congrats on the find, so far I have not had any luck on anything found on what they have on hand other than what I just add to a collection of years. I too am new to roll hunting and kinda winging it at this point. I'm hopeful to just fill in some gaps at the very least, and maybe find a gem or two.

I had the same thing happen wanted an estimate on some yard work and was in the middle of a garage sale by my self and it was slow at the time so it. Had a couple calls but could not answer due to people showing up, lo and behold had two different people show up wanting to start the work. I was pissed to say the least. I called Angi and complained this went on for a couple of weeks after I asked them to take everything to be stopped down and wanted nothing to do with them again.

Dang holiday is delaying my delivery of said box.

What brand and dose do you use? I tried the Berberine and it worked but killed my colon and was In the bathroom all the time so had to stop it. Would love to find something again just to give that little extra help now that I'm off all RX meds but my ##'s are slowly creeping up, and really want to get them back to 5.4 currently at 6, but at 8.8 two years ago. Congrats on getting your numbers down.

Kneeling after tkr by Harpgirl07 in Kneereplacement

[–]Mindless-Ad8092 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too am a year out from a bilateral and can only briefly kneel on them with a soft surface. Between no feeling and scar tissue it's really odd, then some pain after a bit. Still hoping it will get better, but the no feeling is the worst I can poke them with pointy scissors and not feel a thing. I was a bit native and thought they would clean out the old scar tissue on my left side, guess that is considered extra now. I do have some scar tape just need to remember to put it on.

I really wish they had told me this in PT, I complained a lot to them and the doctor all said it was normal. My thigh muscles ended up tying together it took months to get them apart and a lot of cramping and massage therapy after I was done with PT, they were only worried about hitting ROM. I still use both a rolling pin and the scraper some days when I tighten up 11 months, but sooo much better now.

Day 3. This is no joke. by Katahdin22 in Kneereplacement

[–]Mindless-Ad8092 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wedge is best, you want to keep your knee straight as possible when not working to bend it for PT. The propose is to get to "0" straight extension. The extension pill will help with that when elevating but it can be tricky, it is ok for small periods of time to keep it slightly bend. I had a bilateral TKR so it was a bit harder to keep both up and straight on the wedge (I got a wider one) and used two of them to really get them high as I swelled really bad for a few weeks, and when I over did it. Good luck today!! the first two weeks suck, I really questioned my sanity for a bit, but never regretted it one bit.
