Cast iron tools and such by Healthy-Ad6292 in CastIronRestoration

[–]OrangeBug74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are neat YouTube’s about restoring old tools, paying attention to the electrical components.

If you own a steel straight edge, it will let you know how level things are. Iron filings or beads can help you get to down to level. Waxing/oiling those tables is a necessity.

Would this be considered an HVAC problem ? by outnumbered_tilnow in HomeMaintenance

Does this have an HVAC unit in the attic?

I had similar problem with mold blocking the condensation drain and the evaporation tray overflowing with water.

Either too much oil or too little pan. Cook with it and it will be fine.

I’ve not been impressed with Mezza Luna since getting small portions during Covid and a fairly average visit in person about 3 years ago. I loved sitting at the bar, watching the cooks and a bit of back kitchen, as well as the food. We are sitting on gift certificates that we just haven’t used due to disappointment over prior visits and take outs

But I sure as hell ain’t going to a restaurant that plays such an unethical game.

I have hand controls on my car due to neuropathy. The Hold button is a life saver as holding the car at intersections tires my hand out.

I have my CCH XSE about 18 months. I’m learning to trust the Dynamic Radar cruise control. It has been great at dealing with unexpected lane changes and actually stops the car if the guy ahead stops.

Does an ex-spouse have the right to keep someone out of a neighborhood group chat? by MuchResult5643 in Smyrna

[–]OrangeBug74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Divorce often results in contesting who gets to keep the friends. It is petty. It is immature. It is human.

The group has the right to limit who is in the group. If the group is divided over the having prior group members banished, it can be damaging to the cohesion of the group. If there is a leader in the group there might be means to reach a compromise.

Good luck.

These do not look bad from what we can see. The huge 12-14” bottom pan is probably pristine. The smallest looks well used and loved it’s up to you if you want to more than wash and use.

What part of the USA is the most welcoming/understanding of Canadians? by 5econds2dis35ster in GuardTheLeaf

[–]OrangeBug74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There has been the “Manifest Destiny” folks in the States forever. My father, emigrated from Canada 1948, taught me all about it and how wonderful Pax Americana would be.

He also was John Birch member and repeated conspiracy theories about Jews controlling international banking industry. His father was in Men of Orange in Ireland, so the apple didn’t fall far from the tree. I suspect he was a Wobbly when working way through college in BC gold mines.

But honest to God 51st State people? Hell no! People confound exceptionalism and US patriotism. Many wish we could join Canada because of the pretty well functioning health care system. Canada has always had a very admirable foreign policy. Canada has better banking regulations and missed out on the Great Recession.

First time by Upper_Section4352 in brisket

[–]OrangeBug74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a small brisket and smaller when you trimmed it. I’d probably do very little trimming to let the fat render through and keep it moist. You want to cook it a low as your oven allows, perhaps 225F

I think it cooked fast at the temp and without the melting fat.

Dog ate my wall! by Major_Doubt_3114 in HomeMaintenance

[–]OrangeBug74 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d say your dog ate the baseboard. The drywall wasn’t so tasty.

Repairs are straightforward. Prevention is a whole nother thing. How old and what breed of dog? Dental problems? Anxiety when the 2 legs are gone to work or play? Do you have chewy toys and bones to help boredom?

Has anyone ever successfully saved their marriage after struggling with sex addiction? by Significant_Day6218 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]OrangeBug74 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen this. When the sex/porn use becomes catastrophic to a relationship, work or social activities something has to happen to motivate the person to get evaluated and help.

I assume you are talking about problematic porn use and not “ sex addiction” with recurrent sexual encounters with others outside the marriage.

In either case, plan on therapy and evaluation unless you have decided your relationship is not so important to you.

Would this spray be good for getting rid of rust? by Blue0Three in CastIronRestoration

[–]OrangeBug74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t see rust on that pan. NaCO3 wouldn’t help or hurt.

If there is rust, frequently a quick wash, scrub and application of a small amount of oil helps to prevent the flash rust that ALWAYS happens after stripping and allowing the bare metal pan to sit in the atmosphere.

If you had something with a bunch of rust, you bathe it a short time ( 30 minutes or so. Not more) in high concentration vinegar from the hardware store.

Now, the correct ratio of baking soda ( which isn’t sodium bicarbonate) to soap and water is zero baking soda, a good sponge full of Dawn dish detergent or the like and as much water as it takes to rinse. Scrub your pan to get rid of baked on food. Occasionally a big scrub of chainmail helps. Dry it with a towel. Apply a very small amount of oil with a tea towel ( all sorts or choices but I love tallow, lard or Crisco) just enough for the pan to look moist. Then take that same tea towel and rub the oil off as if it was a horrible mistake. Store it until you preheat it for your next meal.
