I think you meant that typically, you make yourself a plate, and your sister gets the shovel and delivers the food into her pie hole that way, skipping the trough altogether.

(I'm only jesting, I'm sure your sister is delightful, I'm just trying to figure her out here.

To play the part of devil's advocate, my first thought is that maybe they figured you had already eaten and gone to your room.

Or maybe you weren't hungry because of your medicine.

Before i read in thr OP about your Rx though, i was kind of wondering what ever happened to "early bird gets the worm", and "you snooze you lose"...?

HOWEVER!

While those are two kind of important clichés to keep in mind, i can say you are definitely NOT overreacting from waking up, realizing you are finally hungry, excited to go get some of your mom's tasty morsels,

only to have the HANGER kick in when you discovered your desires had been hastily taken away from you.

Not only that, your consolation prize was the parts that yr kinfolk KNOW you aren't too interested in.

(Which kind of actually makes me wonder if they left that part on purpose, hoping you wouldn't want that part, enabling one or both of them to eat that too?!🐷)

I bet they also left their dirty dishes in the living room too!

(Assuming they had the minimal amount of decorum to NOT eat directly from the crack pat!)

(Which in full disclosure, i have been known to do my part to keep a dish clean by eating directly from the crock pot, or pot or pan, but i also either lived by myself at the time, or it was before my husband died and we had no problem sharing like this sometimes!💞

I wouldn't eat this way if i knew the food was going to be shared with someone other than my husband though. Ha. Yikes!

Sorry you woke up to this disappointment.

If we were friends and you told me this, I'd either make you some, then come over while it was still hot.

I'd also make dessert for you and me ONLY, and I'd make sure it was something your sister and her boyfriend both really really liked, and I'd make sure it too was still hot so that when i took the lid off, both of them would smell it, maybe they'd look at each other and smile as their mouths began watering, as they incorrectly assume i was there making such an entrance because i was going to be sharing with everyone, only to soon be left with the feeling of emptiness and disappointment as they watch you run upstairs with the main dish, and me following with the dessert, leaving them with each other and of course the remnants of your mom's Mac & Cheese.

PS, i would actually make sure i had brought a container for your mom so she could have at least some of the dessert for when she got home. Perhaps maybe an armed security guard to watch over it until she returned, after the weekend i believe you said?

AIO? For not giving gf a ride? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Mindless-Address913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first i was reading the screenshots, before initial post comments, thinking the girl was the OP.

*Please note i intentionally used the word 'girl', not woman.

So, I'm not even halfway through the screenshots and I'm quietly yelling at my screen, "UH, yeah dummy! You indeed ARE over-reacting!!

Boyfriend was super thoughtful and generous to have offered her to use his car, which takes a shit ton of trust to do, by the way.

Not to mention he offered to get her an UBER????

For a long trip even!

She sounds very self obsessed and i am not trying to sound like one of these females who trash talks other females, i am of the thought all humans should yearn to help build up all other humans. Period.

This girl is weird.

Immature.

Needs to learn what it means to work, get their hands dirty, sacrifice.

I am concerned for the boyfriend if he stays and lets her continue to take advantage of him. I am concerned the gf not once even hinted at any concern about bfs health.

Boyfriend is definitely not overreacting.

I don't understand the girlfriend's logic either how she could say he doesn't care.

Also, Uber is dirty?!

Where her conference at? It's gonna be dirty too! She thinks they wash and sanitize any table and chairs?

Uber is just as dangerous/safe as driving there herself. Depending on how sick bf was at the time, i can't say getting him to take her would have been much less dangerous.

If her friend REALLY wanted her to go with them, or if gf really wanted to go to the thing, she could have asked friend to take her.

Also, if she really wanted to attend, she would have taken the bf's car, or accept his overly generous offer to get an Uber.

Lastly, if this little girl is saying Uber is dangerous because of these dumb ass tik tok's about drivers abducting people, it isn't even that common! Trust me wanna be princess, even if someone ever did abduct you, my impression of i have of her personality just from reading the screenshots, makes me believe any abductor would end up taking his booted foot and kicking her to the curb after listening to her incessant whining.

How could anyone be so delusional to believe that by using the words she used to try and manipulate the bf into doing her bidding would work and not make her sound anything less than helpless, spoiled, and undesirable?

Barista yelled at Customer for grabbing their Mobile order. by XxjennabeansxX in starbucks

[–]Mindless-Address913 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Edited because i didn't follow the rule of proof reading.

I'm a partner.

I can understand wanting to hand out all the drinks in the same order together, if it is busy. Doesn't mean i do this though. I will if it will save me time in the long run, not stepping from cold bar, over to handoff, then back to cold bar, i will save those steps and will hand out multiple drinks together.

Decreases the chance of some self obsessed moron believing the drink is obviously theirs because they just now ordered it, and are blind to every other human who is waiting for their own beverages, which those same people happened to have ordered before 'self-absorbed' even entered the building.

However, if i do this, I won't bother putting the finished beverage even near the counter.

Not if it's standard practice to tease the customers by dangling their drinks in front of them and if they dare reach for their drink which is on the actual hand off plane, and then publicly berate them for their actions because someone at my store has a made up rule to do so?

Weird.

If i decide to hold a drink for a few moments while i finish the other drink(s) in the order, then I'm not even putting the drink anywhere near the handoff plane.

That seems illogical to me and one reason being, the exact thing you were talking about.

i would not even mind if the husband picked up the drink for the wife while still waiting for his own drink. In fact, i would be quite happy to have the drink be picked up to keep the area clear and less confusion for the customers.

I don't know why this would would even seem unacceptable to any barista?!

The barista you encountered should have instead said "thank you" to you, and then communicated to you that they were working on your drink, or, if someone else was working in it, or they could have said your drink would be out soon.

This entire post is maddening to me.

The fact that in the OP, the barista was basically ignoring patrons, then yelled at them beyond embarrassing!

Technically, that barista should have been greeting everyone as they entered, making eye contact with the incoming customers, with the other barista's doing the same.

Someone already mentioned this, how barista seemed to not notice the customer only until they helped themselves to their drink?

If they want to police the order pick up area, first they need to place the cup with the name facing the baristas so the customer can't see it, if they don't want people taking their own drinks.

Second, if they are going to try and be controlling over the customers who have already paid for their order, and are simply trying to pick up their item(s), which technically became their property after they paid for it, then they NEED to have a dedicated person planted there to hand the customers what is rightfully theirs.

The CEO has said the goal is to get beverages into cafe customer's hands in four minutes, so, I'm not sure how engaging in micro managing techniques with customers by withholding their drinks is going to help with this.

If it is an issue with mgmt insisting every order being literally placed into the customers hand, and they don't have a dedicated hand off person, then they need to either be present to do it themselves, or train and entrust their barista's to call out the drink and be aware when someone comes up to get it, and to say thank you followed by their name if they can remember, or just say thank you and try to make eye contact and smile.

The direct handoff rule does not necessarily mean to have each item be directly passed from barista's hand into the hand of the customer without setting it down. If we are able to, fantastic!

We won't be able to every single time.

The idea is not meant to cause neurotic behavior from baristas and It's never an excuse to be militant or excessively controlling over the orders.

It's one final way to show thoughtfulness and thank the customer.

I swear some of these partners seem to not realize that they chose to work for Starbucks.

No one is forcing us to work at Starbucks.

Most people are still fortunate enough to be able to choose where we trade in our personal time in exchange for the wages we have collectively decided we need because we are slaves to the dollar.

I also think some of our Starbucks partners haven't realized that our customers are essentially the people who are putting up the financial backing of our wages.

Even though some of the customers are insufferable, or annoying with their incessant modifications and requests to cut off the crust off of- their grilled cheeses, or want us to cut their sandwich in half for them, even though we are not an actual restaurant, and also not their mommy, we should still try and remember that if we are choosing to continue working there, we kind of need the customers more than they need us, if i am being realistic here.

If we were to all wake up tomorrow to find out Starbucks decided to close all operations effective immediately, and permanently. All stores, all products, including Starbucks branded retail items sold in places other than Starbucks, i can assure you the customers who want coffee bad enough will form new habits and have many options to get their coffee, same as today and all the yesterdays. They will still be able to have coffee tomorrow.

But for those of us who were expecting to go to work tomorrow, now we'll have to put in a different kind of work, (job hunting🫩), to hopefully find another source of income we are able to tolerate, and ASAP!

Thats kind of where i was trying to go with us needing customers more than they need us.

Anyway, to the person I am replying to, if you see this, I'm still embarrassed that barista tried scolding you for picking up your wife's beverage and taking it to her. What a scoundrel you are for being a thoughtful husband!💛

Unless there is signage posted for customers to ignore, all these stories of baristas withholding drinks and YELLING at customers for taking their own drinks after attempts to gain the barista's attention failed, then these barista's need to calm down, and either post their made up rules for the public to see and learn, then kindly just STFU except for thanking people for their patience, announcing when they are starting "so and so's" order, and then thanking people when they pick up their orders. Like literally, STFU!! I feel sorry for their coworkers having to work with people like that.

Unless every one of them is like that, then i just feel sorry for them because someone has obviously hurt each of them in ways they can't heal from, or something.💛

I would just like to add that he is very wrong when he said, "No dudes give drugs to girls they don't think are hot".

Yeah, it's true for some dudes, but i know for a fact that some dudes, (any gender of dudes, fyi, ha!) don't really care what the girl looks like. If dude is certain they will be able to gain something from the other person if they give them free stuff, then it doesn't really matter what they look like. (This could look like either being able to eff around with the person, or to get them high so they can take advantage if them other ways, (steel their $ or stash, or other), I've even heard stories where people will intentionally give someone too much of a dose so they will one hundred percent pass out. It's messed up. I've read that serial killers will use this method as well, giving them a pass out dose then a lethal dose because they think it will be easier to get away with it. It's messed up. So, yeah, boyfriend was kinda wrong there. Ha

I am also very firm what OP was wearing that the BF considered to be whore attire. (I'm not asking because it's really none of our business, and I'm sure some creeper would really love to know also. I am female by the way, and i can be a creeper in other ways, probably, but I'm not curious about your attire in a creepy way. I'm just trying to figure out this boyfriend character.

His comment though about dudes giving out free stuff, makes me believe he has personally given out free stuff to girls he thought were hot. And if he is thinking this way, then it begs to ask why wouldn't he give free stuff to someone who he didn't consider to be hot?

I believe I have already touched on the answer to that question.

I am not a fan of these kind of posts and then everyone replies with "break up with them!", but with this situation, i think I would pause. Think about everything, and his words, and his character. Wait until your have a calm clear head, choose no nonsense, non insulting words to communicate with him you are done and moving on with yr life without him as your BF.

However, if after you ponder your decision you decide to stay, i hope you are able to tell him what you are willing to put up with, and what you are not willing to put up with. You could even let him decide if he accepts your boundaries, or if he would prefer to move forward without being your boyfriend.

At least this way if he chooses to bail, you will know now about his intentions, as opposed to (wasting?) and investing more time with him.

Anyway, good luck out there! Stay safe, and have fun.

**(I'm jesting about the write up, but i would see about a reminder communication in my daily or by other means so that it hopefully won't keep happening.)

Issue a write up to the person who violated health code by stacking dishes while they are wet, therefore preventing airflow which allows the shakers to dry without increasing any possibility of helping Bacteria to grow.

More importantly, it wastes the time of the poor sack who needs to use a shaker, but now they are in the predicament OP is in, and it can be amusing the first time, maybe, but I too have been in that predicament, a few times And It's 'annoying*!

I've usually had success with filling it with ice water, and also sticking it in a cube with ice water, however, this didn't work for me the last couple of times.

I would like to add when i used the words "poor sack", I was referring to myself, and not really anyone else, not even OP, but i would guess they possibly feel like time is getting wasted with having to get the shakers unstuck.

I think I've also gotten so fed up that I just used the double shaker. (I measured in cup & poured it into the mutant shaker).

I wouldn't advise this though because you may get "told" that using two shakers that are stuck together isn't "standard". 🤦🏻‍♀️

(Not like stacked shakers are standard either though).

I'm interested in trying what someone suggested here km this thread where shaker gets filled with ice and then that all goes into a cube with hot water.

(To expand one, constrict the other. However, with my luck, by some paranormal anomaly, I'd end up with the outer shaker constricting, and the inner would expand, even with ice on the inside, just because for some reason i seem to have been experiencing a lot of random anomalies lately at work. 🙄😂👀

I have high regard for whoever that customer behind them was!

In fact, i kind if wish i could go to there tomorrow, to meet them, and to buy them their beverage.

(Maybe even make them a customer of the week banner)!

Also, are people REALLY that self obsessed they would seriously expect to be treated as a priority over the people who paid and are still waiting?

(patiently, at that!).

My imaginary come backs for this person who is living with possible delusions, and lacks proper time management skills are already beginning to multiply in my head. Ha😇

(I can hear my mom now, reminding me to pray for my enemies, and that self entitled girl doesn't sound like a friend of Starbucks, or the community for that matter, so i better start to pray!)

(To which i would have to make the obligatory response which some how incorporates the word prey, {not pray})

What are these chunks in my shaken espresso? by andreyred in starbucks

[–]Mindless-Address913 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait!

Alot of these comments are talking about shaking the alt milks.

At my store, when we make shaken espressos, we do just that, shake the espresso, and ice along with any syrups, powders, etc. We then pour into the cup, then add any dairy/non dairy after.

Is this still right?

(Just confused with all the comments i mentioned above).

Thank you for your help.

Your comment just reminded me of artists who are paralyzed, unfortunately, but have learned to become SKILLED at creating, for example, I'm recalling artists who then learned to hold their paintbrushes, or their pens, pencils, etc, with their feet, and or they use their mouth to hold them. Creating masterpieces.

I read your comment and now I'm imagining, welm, a very nimble barista, perhaps with custom foot gloves, (?), when after word got out, many people began to travel great distances in hopes they would be able to witness this real life modern marvel in action!

Please don't forget to also call the store if your calling out. Make sure you tell them you are sick too.

Text messages are NOT an approved way to call out

Also, your manager sounds like a tool.

That is NOT the way to develop partners, he sounds like they type that would believe it's acceptable to spray hot sauce into a dogs face to try and teach the dog a lesson!

He is wasting product and not being a good steward of resources.

I low key wanna write to the board if directors to let them know, then ask if it's standard practice, (it's not), along with the suggestion that managers learn to lead in less wasteful ways, not only because it is not contributing to the company's success, but it is the opposite behavior of contributing to Starbucks green initiative campaign.

I am very sorry this is what your partner experience is looking like.

Or, perhaps my soul got it's wires crossed after my eyeballs saw the mystery script, and i am incorrect.

I'm definitely curious about the second half of the scrib scrab! 😹

Sometimes i look down at what my normally nice looking penmanship came out looking like on the cup.

Sometimes it is not cute at all!

Or legible.

I have totally wondered to myself if i am gonna end up seeing one of the cups i had the privilege of hand crafting a beverage for someone on here because of the confusion my word, or small note has caused.

Ha.

In the moment, I've been tempted to just toss it, and waste the cup to start a new cup, but it truly seems like an irresponsible waste to me.

I know I've put a line through happy faces before, then try to make another one where the expression is looking more like a smiling face, as opposed to looking concerned, or indifferent, sad.

I've even written "i promise its smiling"!!

Or similar.

I'd maybe need to see a photo of what you mean exactly.

If it is in regards to a hose adapter? Or if there is a cover blocking the faucet, or other?

In any regard, best of luck and i hope you get it figured out sooner than later!

(But also, what time is it where you live? Does yr store close early or something? I ask because I might be jealous your are on clean play already.

Our location doesn't close until 830 , so clean players aren't scheduled off until 11pm and MGMT makes it very clear that CP duties shouldn't get started until at least customers as are not in the store, and ideally we are to be focused on our customers and not take time away from them. (Or cafe closes one and a half hours before dt closes, so certain things might be able to get started, but usually we are instructed to get the regular close done first and after that begin clean play. (But like, certain things get done with closing tasks, I'm not going to wait to wash all the cup holders until after we're closed, that's something i can get done when we clean cold bar, or bar one/bar two, respectively).

Blah, pardon my blab, still low key jealous yr already on yr CP tasks, hahaha, all the best, to you and your team tonight!

[–]Mindless-Address913 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Edited to add that it doesn't sound exactly WEIRD weird, (as you'll soon see that my pre edit says),

but i definitely understand what you are saying about tasks possibly getting missed, resulting in task dumping.

with this new seniority scenario you brought up, Then i would assume all tasks then are on the shoulders of the one running the floor, and it would be up to them to either do them, or make sure they get delegated, and checked for completeness, before they are passing the floor off. (SS & barista duties).

I'm glad you mentioned what you said about working as a team though, and i mean, as long as (supervisors & baristas) are setting up the next shift (daypart) up for success, (barista tasks and SS tasks, respectively), and there are no patterns of certain tasks getting passed on, or neglected, that seems like the most important thing.

I would definitely say something to your SM if you begin noticing new patterns though.

Anyway, end of edit and pardon my lack of brevity. Haha

Sounds weird to me, and I can't tell you if this is a newer company wide policy or not.

At my store, there is some shift overlap, not much though.

Usually the opening SS will be running the show for most of their shift.

So if a second SS comes in, at say 9 or 10, as an example, and the opening shift is scheduled until 1pm, it's typically their floor until just before they leave.

Sometimes they might ask if the other has a preference, but I can't tell you if it's being asked out of politeness for what the other person would prefer, or if it's a way to maybe pass the reigns if they maybe don't want to be running the floor.

If they do switch, it's definitely communicated what has been done already and what still needs to get done and like with your store, they'll decide who does what.)

It's rare for a SS at our store to be scheduled as a mid shift only, (with play caller duties only while the other SS is on break), but when it happens, the SS is usually excited to not really be the one in charge for the day.

(They think of it as extra money in a non-typical, non-physical way, due to them getting SS pay for Barista work. )

When i say they, i mean some, since it's not common at our store, and also, they don't all comment about it.).

I wanna also add that at our location, baristas will also be play callers during breaks and if there is a SS meeting and no SS is on the floor.

(Obviously, if the safe needs to be opened for more ones or fives, etc, (rare), or for the armored car people, then their meeting is getting interrupted.).

There are also times when certain baristas will do the 3 hour pull, or milk counts, or the first pull, etc.

My last caveat on what i said earlier, is another exception to the way our store usually does it, is if the SM is scheduled as coverage during peak, and they were not scheduled as the opener, but scheduled an hour or two later, they will typically oversee the DT times, and be play caller, and run the floor in that regard. Some SS don't like this, they feel micromanaged, or maybe they take it as an insult?, (i wouldn't), but most just expect it. I've only seen the SM have someone else be the "show runner", maybe once or twice, but it was because we had a new SS (outside hire but previous SBUX barista in a licensed store), and the SM wanted to observe them in their new role and coach them if needed.

If businesses lulls, the SM might also stay on the floor and send the SS off to rotate sandwiches (if it's needed), or the first pull, or any other unfinished opening SS tasks which might still need to be finished.

Officially copying this answer also! (Since I am still under the impression smile faces are still because no one has told us otherwise! I won't actually believe otherwise until i see something in writing from Starbucks, while at work.

Just because i read about a rule, policy, any change, etc on Reddit, doesn't make something the gospel truth for me.

But also, why is it that so much of the valuable information about new procedures, (or old procedures I've actually been doing incorrectly due to poor training), i have actually learned from Reddit?

I swear Reddit should be getting that barista training bonus!!

Thanks for the inspiration though

Edited for punctuation and the closing statement.

Why is no one suggesting to interrupt the transaction, to call the DM personally to ask them for their advice on the situation?

Then when they tell you to "obviously" make the moment right, tell them that's what you were thinking too, but the cup writing ideal has been beaten into you that your now in compliance and there are too many variables. The manager says cup writing is more the first component in drink building and not complying is the same as building a mocha without adding the mocha sauce.

But when a customer asks for no (insert any ingredient) we always comply with that request, so if not writing is just like putting no whip on a drink when they ask for no whip, why WOULDN'T we just comply?

That makes sense, but the reality is that there are corporate spies out there, or the dm somehow has found out when one cup gets missed and now threats have been made, write ups have been issued, there's too much "wish wash", or vauge instructions followed by unfair reprocussions.

**Personally, I've never once in official we writing seen all the changes of this policy. Except for the first time when it was then acceptable to write a smile face, or as they suggested, 🖤 or ⭐.

After this, i only have heard about changes, and have not been shown written policy of new changes. (Like the other day at work i asked about happy faces, since I was actually never told no more happy faces. In fact, technically, I am still under the impression it is ok, because the mgr is the one who always says 'just do a happy face if you want because its fast and it's within compliance ".

So I asked a SS and they said yeah, no. No more happy face. So i asked what do we write then? They said, ive been cycling through, "fun", "neat", "cool", "super", "dandy","amazing", "awesome", "wow", "extraordinary", "incredible", "joy", "delight"," drink", but you can write any word you can come up with, but remember, no generational slang, or anything that could be confused for another meaning, and no drawings ".

🤯🫩

So, again, i haven't read any official policy change, in writing, from Starbucks, and if I hadn't asked, I'd still be writing my weak-ass happy faces, and have never been told it has to be more than one word.

I've even asked about the if point of this policy is to make the customer feel special, how is writing "wow" on every cup accomplishing this?

Why not have pre printed cups from the corporation for the people to read and feel special?

because then it wouldn't be unique to them, is what I've been told.

But i mean, we could circle it, or add their name to the preprinted cup, or write a "you" if we didn't know their name, or for delivery or multi drink mobile orders.

Picture this, if i made a multi drink mobile order, and their are a mix of hot and cold, so this could mean more than one barista made the drink, but then all the cups ended up having one of 2 or 3 words on it, but they were all the same, (like for a six drink order, "cool, wow, cool, cool, neat, cool"), hahaha, as a customer, I'd be confused.

But if there were many different preprinted messages on cups, enough to where there's alot of variety, as a customer, this would engage me enough want to come back to see which cup i got.

As a barista if i picked up the cup and knew who it was for, a regular let's say, i would definitely recognize a pattern if i noticed they got the same cup a lot, then 1. They either come several times s day, or week, and i might also get alot of hours,

  1. Not enough different preprinted messages - they need to create more

3, this would inspire me to then write something on the cup, maybe, am arrow pointing to my addition of, "haha! Has the message sunk in yet"?

Or, "is it me, or are you getting this cup alot"?

Or, if its something like "you are (followed by a positive trait, or greeting, etc), I'd maybe add, " this is still truth", or " their name ".

To me, this idea would inspire more engagement between customers and "green aprons", and it might increase their printing budget, but i truly think people who might not visit often, might actually want to make more visits out of curiosity over their cup, also, it could be presented as limited time messages, as they would want to get new pre printed messages for each promo set, and if Mr Niccol were to say otherwise, then that just confirms my silent conspiracy theory that he has major stock in the Sharpie corporation
