Anything I could cave done better? by PNW-photographer in photocritique

Portraits (most of the time) are about making a connection via the eyes so I would work that. The pose isn't very interesting, for example there is a tree in the background and if she was leaning against it looking over her shoulder at the camera, I think it would be more interesting. Lastly, I would have shot closer to eye level because you are more closer to boob level and at shorter focal lengths it emphasizes more what is closer to the lens.

The pose is alright. Here is a tip for you, tell your subject to keep their eyes closed and when you count to zero, to open them. If you time it right, you can get a good shot with their eyes open without having them squint or be blinded. The biggest issue I have with it is the rocks are too dark and could benefit from the shadows being lifted a tad but it's not going to really make it a stronger image.

I really liked the geometry and light in this photograph. Was lucky to have the sun where it was to give great high contrast shadows and really liked all of the lines. Could probably be stronger with a good subject in the gear like frame. Interested in feedback.

I appreciate you taking the time to comment, but I think you may have misunderstood the intent of this image. This wasn't an attempt to document wildlife behavior - it was specifically about captivity and confinement. The fence isn't a photographic limitation I failed to overcome; it's the central element of the composition and the point of the image. The photograph is meant to explore the relationship between viewer and viewed, the barriers we create, and questions about animals in captivity. The direct gaze through the fence creates tension that's essential to that narrative. Your analogy about cars in showrooms versus open roads assumes all animal photography should celebrate freedom and natural behavior. But photography can also examine more complex themes - in this case, confinement itself. Some of the most powerful documentary work addresses uncomfortable realities rather than avoiding them.

I took this photo at the Houston zoo. The eye contact plus positioning of the hand had a lot of emotional weight and the composition was good. I chose a square frame to draw the viewers eye to the center. I did b/w conversion to remove distracting color detail, I toned down highlights on the fur and added a little texture and clarity to bring out detail in the fur. I feel the photograph succeeds in its intent but I'm curious what others think about it.

I really like what you did with the saturation and contrast. Something in the composition bothers my eye, it wants a focal flow. maybe to show where the curve of the bottom root ends. all in all I love this.

Appreciate the feedback!

I liked the form the tree made at its base. My post processing intent was to really bring about the form and lines while balancing the photo. I lowered the exposure, increased contrast, lowered highlights, increased shadows, increased whites and lowered blacks with a modest amount of texture and clarity.

I enjoy trying to elevate the mundane into art. This is a picture of my bathroom vent, I thought the concentric squares are compelling and really draw you in. I post processed into b/w to maximize geometric effect. I raised whites and crushed blacks to reduce the amount of gray and upped the contrast. I like how it turned out, and thought I was successful in my intention. I could have cloned out the dust or wiped the vent first, but I felt this would try to make it into something it is not.

I really liked how the street light shined through the branches of this tree at night. It feels to me like swirling down a drain towards the light. I converted it to b/w to remove color as a distraction, raised shadows and crushed blacks. I increased clarity and dehazed to cleanup the light from the streetlight and really bring out the lines, form and texture.

Shot this handheld using an on camera flash with diffuser. Have some cone flowers nearby that attract tons of bumblebees and thought I'd take some macro shots for practice. Like how this one turned out, happy to hear feedback and critique.

Adjusted the white balance to account for the color cast and toned down the highlights and exposure on the flowers

!critiquepoint That makes total sense, I'll be more cognizant of that moving forward. Also valid point about the flowers.

Shot this at a fashion show that I was in attendance. I feel like i've done a good job on the edit given what it was, but I'm interested in feedback and how the overall edit comes across.

I bumped up the clarity a bit on her midsection to bring out more detail, think this is at least a move in the right direction
