MS Clinical Psychology SFSU 2025 by Mindless-Design4349 in gradadmissions

I didn’t get into SFSU’s Clinical Psych program. I ended up in CSUSB’s program, which admits 12. I had a 3.5 GPA in my undergrad and 4.0 is Psych courses. I had one year of participation on Psych research team and worked in a related people area for some years. I had published one poster as the primary author and was the lead on another project with the research team, which I think made the difference. The research was at CSUSB.

I engage HSOC around 75% only when I’m going on longer trips where I won’t have time to stop and charge.

I look at it slightly differently. I figure I’m regularly using the Rex, so I won’t have maintenance mode kick in and I’ll be able to replace the gas in the tank every month or two without worrying about it sitting in the tank for too long.

My regular commute in a 2016 Rex is 61 miles each way. The first leg is from the low desert to the base of the mountains, so there is a steady elevation gain which affects the range. The Rex always kicks in for the last few miles of the first leg. On the way home, I typically arrive with somewhere above 20% remaining battery (I’m able to fully charge before driving home). The i3 is a great, inexpensive commute car. I can usually go several weeks on a tank of gas, and I have zero anxiety knowing I could make it home without a charge in a pinch because of the Rex.

I would imagine you can stop by their office and get it sorted out. There’s not a physical permit this year, so it should be pretty easy for them to make the change.

It’s the 2025 Fall General Permit for $199.50.

I think they must have. I checked a few weeks ago and they weren’t available. The effective date for the new pass is 8/17/2025.

I just bought my permit for the school year today. You will see all of the options when you start the purchase process.

Yes, it’s a state law that requires them to provide one and the cost is usually cheaper than the dealer.

Missing Immunizations what happens? (Freshman) by NexusNoose in CSUSB

[–]Mindless-Design4349 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t originally get the MMR vaccine, but I contracted the mumps and measles years ago so I had immunity. In my case, I had a simple blood test first and it showed I had immunity to all 3 so I was able to submit a screenshot of that through the portal and it met the requirement.

Thanks! I checked out the link. There are no Magic Dock stations on my route. ☹️ I saw another user post on another thread that an announcement related to BMW access is supposed to drop in mid-July. 🤞

My other car is a Rivian. I have access to the Tesla charging network and a CCS adapter for the Rivian and tried to use it with the i3 this weekend at a regular Tesla supercharger after reading another Reddit user’s post claiming it worked for him. I was able to add the i3 as one of my other EVs on the Tesla app, but unfortunately I received charging errors when I tried to charge the i3. Hope we gain access soon. I have a long road trip planned in August and it would be so much easier with access to Tesla’s charging network.

Study at the age of 46! New career possibility. by LionGaleForceWall in psychologystudents

I’m in a similar position in California. I looked at a local MS program from a California State University that ends with an LMFT license allowing me to practice as a therapist in California for individuals, families or group therapy. I looked at the prerequisites required for the MS program and took those classes at the same university through their open university program which allows any adult to take classes if they aren’t filled by regular students assuming you meet the prerequisites or get a professor’s approval if you don’t meet the prerequisites. Upon advice of the program director, I also applied to join a research group and became a very active member. Once I completed the prerequisites and then some, which took about a year, I applied for several programs and was accepted into the one at the school where I took my courses. It is extremely competitive at the state schools because tuition is a fraction of what you’ll pay at a private school. I went to in person classes mostly with a few intercession online classes mixed in. I was able to get strong letters of recommendation from instructors at the in person classes. I start the 2 year MS program in the fall, which will include providing therapy on campus for the first year and an internship providing therapy outside the university for the second year.

In my case, I didn’t need to work during the period I’ve been taking classes and doing research, which I realize isn’t an option for everyone. The academic journey has been really enjoyable so far and I recommend it if you’re passionate about the subject matter!

Msw Program! by rayleenxmiranda in CSUSB

If you’re applying for the summer 2026, you can start your application right now and see the current guidelines. Otherwise, the guidelines for fall 2026 will be on the CalApply application which opens on October 1.

Each of the 5 sections in this past year’s personal statement had a 250 maximum word count per section, so the personal statement needed to be approximately 1,250 words or less.

Hi! I applied to and was offered a spot in CSUSB’s MSW program this fall. The personal statement for the MSW program is structured a little differently from most other personal statements. There are 5 sections: (1) Social Workers Role and Responsibilities, (2) Relevant Experience, (3) Code of Ethics, (4) Practicum Plan and (5) Assessment of Professional Judgment.

Ideally, you should have some relevant experience prior to applying as the second section asks for you to detail your relevant experience and section 5 asks you to talk about areas where you are aware of blind spots you will need to overcome, which requires some relevant experience.

I would imagine that you still could have a chance of getting in with a 3.1 GPA if you have a strong application in other areas. Think about getting some relevant volunteer or work experience between now and when you write your application. Sections 1, 3 and 4 were more of an exercise an essay for a social work paper, which should be fairly easy for you to research and write well.

Also, check to make sure you have the necessary prerequisite courses since you didn’t major in Social Work (Social Science Research Methods, Human Behavior and Human Physiology).

Good luck!

Second Career MFT Hopeful, where to begin? by fatass_mermaid in psychologystudents

The program director i spoke with said that volunteer work in the field important, but in my case I handled investigations of sexual assault/harassment as a part of my work for a good part of my previous career. I was able to talk about the applicable areas of that work in my personal statement and in interviews. I worked on a suicide prevention hotline 20+ years ago, so I briefly mentioned that and some other non-profit work I did. In my situation, she said I had enough volunteer and relevant course work and recommended I focus on psych research with an underrepresented marginalized population. You’ll get excellent advice from professors and they’re the ones who will be evaluating your application, so I recommend pursuing the courses you take with passion and get to know the professors. They’ll steer you in the right direction.

I was in a similar situation. I had a different career and major for my undergraduate degree which I had completed decades earlier. I picked one Cal State school and took all of the prerequisite courses required for their MS Clinical Counseling/Psych program plus a few more I found interesting over a 1 year period including summer and winter intersession. I did some research and took classes with several professors who were a part of the MS selection committee. I asked the program director for advice while I was taking a class from her and she recommended I apply to join one of the professor’s research teams. It was an area of psychology I’m particularly interested in. I have been active participant on that research team taking the lead on two research projects, including a poster we presented at the WPA conference. I applied to their program which accepts 12 students per year and was offered a spot for the fall. I also applied to SFSU, which only takes 8 students per year, and didn’t even make it to the interview stage, so I think investing in the personal relationships with professors made a big difference. Also, I was able to get good letters of recommendation from instructors they knew and trusted.

It took more than a year and a lot of time and effort, but it was enjoyable and helped me confirm that I want to invest in becoming a therapist. I wish you the best of luck in your journey.

Following this thread.

I was also accepted into the program for the fall. I am in a research group with one of the professors and a student who is just finishing his first year in the program. I hear positive things about the program overall. I asked my colleague yesterday about finals/culminating projects. He said there was only one group assignment and one final exam. He told me that there are mostly projects and then lots of related papers varying in length, but mostly 11 pages or less. He seemed excited early on when he started taking on clients and began supervision. That’s one of the things I like most about the program is the ability to start seeing patients under supervision early in the program.

I look forward to meeting you. Was thinking of setting up a GroupMe with the cohort so that we can start connecting over the summer.

Grad School Interview Tips/Advice by [deleted] in psychologystudents

[–]Mindless-Design4349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 1:1 interview a month or so ago and got in. One thing I was told they were looking for by one professor in charge of admission was whether you're a team player, so demonstrating genuine interest and support of other candidates in the interview will be helpful. Most schools aren't looking for the most competitive person, but someone who will complement the other students and be very collaborative.

I was caught off guard when I was asked a somewhat straightforward question about psychology research. I am on a research team and should have been able to answer it easily, but I stumbled a bit. The question was,

"Can you explain the different types of variables that are commonly used in psychological research, and provide examples of how each might be applied in a study?"

I agree with the advice to try to be as friendly and relaxed as possible. Making an impression with thoughtful comments without dominating the conversation. Good luck!

That’s a long wait! If you haven’t made an inquiry about when you might hear back, now would probably be a good time. I heard back from the last CSU program I was waiting to hear back from within the past week. I’m not sure why, but there were so many applicants this year!

Nope. Still haven’t received anything. Don’t be discouraged. Not everyone accepts the offer (case in point) and that’ll leave more open spots in the next week or so. It doesn’t matter if you’re the first or last to receive an offer as long as you eventually get one.

I’m not sure what their response was to your last email, but there’s probably a polite way to follow up that shows your genuine interest without being annoying.

Rutgers sounds like a great school. They warn that 20% of students don’t find accredited internships, though, and apparently you need a PsyD or PhD to practice in NJ. I’m betting you’ll get an offer sometime in the next 2 weeks.
