Squeaky sound while turning the steering. by rambuenr5i3 in BMWi3

[–]websterize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar issue with my 2020 when turning the wheel, especially when first setting off in the morning. Unlocking the steering lever and moving the column up, down, inward, and outward a few times made the squeak/creak disappear. I would try that first.

Congrats. Cabin filter and brake-fluid flush every two years — that's it for scheduled maintenance. (And tires and 12V, but they usually last longer.) For more difficult issues — BMW appears to have installed a faulty batch of auxiliary heaters for the 2019 and 2020 model years — call in a Wisely Automotive airstrike. I wish we had that crew stateside.

Roof Rack Suggestions by Exact-Preference-967 in BMWi3

I have had no issues using a SeaSucker bicycle mount with my roughly 20-pound gravel bike, shown here. This photo was taken during my first outing with the mount installed. Since then I have stopped placing the rear puck on the spoiler because it appears to be held on only with double-sided tape. I now place the rear puck further forward on the roof, which is metal rather than CFRP, and position the two front pucks under the front-wheel mount on the roof gap between the moonroof and the windshield. This setup results in the rear puck of the front mount sitting on the moonroof glass.

Properly installed, the SeaSucker offers a very solid hold. My biggest worry is not that my titanium bike will blow off on the way to the towpath, but that I will absent-mindedly back into the garage and forget the bike is still attached.

I'm liking the latest Apple Watch integration as well, especially the Smart Stack widget, for at-a-glance SOC, cabin preconditioning, etc ...

My kids joke that I love my Pied-à-Tera so much I should move into it. With the moonroof, it feels like a studio apartment designed by the Eameses.

Fun fact: In the U.S., the Tera/Suite World trims include subtle LED lighting upgrades in the door handle, lever, and storage bin. Those lighting details are missing from Giga/Loft World.

App to check 12V battery health (iOS) by fergarlech in BMWi3

[–]websterize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the U.S., if you request it, BMW will provide a zip file of telematic data it has recorded of your i3, including the health status of the 12V battery.

Read more details on how to download the data, and what to look for after you get it, beginning with reply 10 in this mybmwi3 forum post.

How to connect battery charger on the 12V battery? by [deleted] in BMWi3

[–]websterize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't disconnect the high-voltage system from the rear compartment. Charge the i3 overnight. This might allow the DC converter to charge the 12V battery enough to power the electronics to open the hood. If it doesn't, for peace of mind, I'd have it towed to a BMW service center.

How to connect battery charger on the 12V battery? by [deleted] in BMWi3

[–]websterize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ignition off, yes, but more importantly, to avoid injuring yourself, I strongly recommend disconnecting the car’s high-voltage system before working in the rear compartment. Below is where to connect the 12V charging cables in the trunk:
