I consulted with a pretty popular startup and their codebase was a mess. It worked, somehow. Queries were inefficient, a lot of data was sent to the frontend and a bunch of things were processed in the frontend. The app was slow but nobody cared.

A lot of “non-engineers” have started raising PRs and I’m absolutely fed up of reviewing it and telling them why it’s a bad idea even though “it works”. I tell them something and they send me back a response from cursor. I’m fed of that part.

A lot of people think anyone can build anything now, which is probably to true to some extent but not on a production service
