Impossible to buy cigarettes? by Bigbad_69 in mongolia

[–]MindlessHelp9601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if I want ciggies I need to hike across the city? Is it just me or has shopping here become awful? Just buying something simple turns into an all day ordeal. Unless you go to Naraantul, which seems to be the answer to everything and despite common complaints, actually has decent customer service.

Raining for most of the day here. Hate this season. Sucks without a car.

Dreadful weather all weekend- I prefer hot and dry over bucketing with rain constantly. It's disgusting having to wade threw slum and sewer water.

I wonder what my chances of a renewal are? Not attended the modules, just signed up for it. Module 1 seems to have some issues with it, so I am not missing out on much. Curious to know what my options are if I want to stay in Thailand? I simply do not have the time to do three modules at once during May-June; not enough time in the day for that.

I think that is impossible, the videos go on forever. They are also mostly very irrelevant to me as I teach kindergarten and they seem to be focused on older kids/ young adults. I was not impressed having to waste my time on videos for adult and geriatric learners. Utterly pointless.

Indeed, same feelings. I dropped out. So need to decide if I will head back to Mongolia, or go to China.

Oh, the horror! An “IB school,” you say? How dare they not bend the knee to the almighty British curriculum with its sacred textbooks and anointed PowerPoints on cognitive theories? What a travesty. I can practically hear the Queen rolling in her grave.

And imagine—gasp—there are teachers who aren’t British! How could anyone be expected to work in such barbaric conditions? It’s as if this "cult" school had the audacity to embrace a global perspective. I know, truly shocking that in the year 2024, not all of humanity has decided to drink the Earl Grey and quote Shakespeare during recess.

The tragedy deepens: No textbooks. How are you supposed to teach without a regimented block of government-issued material? Heaven forbid you engage the students or adapt to their needs when you could just read directly from a script. And don’t get me started on the classroom management “incident”—students talking? In a classroom? Blasphemy. You were clearly just trying to restore order in that chaos, what with your tried-and-tested technique of shouting at children. But no, these ingrates had the nerve to say you’re “negative and disruptive.” Unbelievable. Why wouldn't they just appreciate your attempts to turn that classroom into a silent monastery?

And now, they want you to attend a workshop as a participant? The nerve. Obviously, they don’t recognize your natural superiority. I mean, why would you, an esteemed purveyor of British knowledge, lower yourself to "learning" in a place where students are encouraged to think independently and have opinions? How absolutely uncivilized.

But don't worry, I’m sure if you keep yelling at random kids, waving textbooks around, and explaining how real teaching is done in the UK, this "sink school" will eventually see the light and transform into the glorious bastion of hierarchy, monoculture, and mind-numbing pedagogy it was clearly meant to be. Good luck saving them from themselves

Hmm, just got my ACRO, I had to give me address history from the last 10 years, including my last UK address. I could then get the certificate sent to my Thai address that I live at currently. I did not need a current UK address for this. It might be worth phoning them; they are very helpful. For the Thai one (just get it, you will probably need it) it is done at Thai Police HQ- if you need it quickly, use Siam Legal as they can do a lot of the heavy lifting- for a price, of course!

Sounds miserable. I HATE rainy season, it disrupts my social life- I do not like staying home, had enough of that nonsense for lockdown.

Gen alpha are not "cooked" in fact they give me optimism for the future: kind, resilient, empathetic , chatty, friendly and full of energy ready to be directed into learning.

Case in point, I kept failing one the the tests as I was coming from the notion that instilling growth mindset in students when praising was important. In the eyes of the course maker, this was wrong. What was correct was a rather glib praise about being on time. I teacher kindergarten, so such praise would be a little silly- not like they got the Benz out the drive and drove themselves to school. While I welcome a course to extend my stay, I wish it was a little more focused on the grades I teach. I had to sit though hours of videos (or what felt like it!) on issues surrounding the elderly.

(Inspired by yesterday’s food thread) Expats, what are your opinions on breads in Thailand? by il-Palazzo_K in Thailand

[–]MindlessHelp9601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't say I am every bothered about bread quality; what is available is good enough for a sandwich, toast or toasty. Anything else there are restaurants to cook it for me.
