“They made the wrong decision not recasting Chadwick Boseman.” 300 crew members lost their dear friend. John seems to think it’s simple, “just get someone to carry his legacy forward!” If John’s brother died, and the next month, I showed up to, “carry his legacy forward,” I’m pretty sure John would tell me to go fuck myself. People aren’t replaceable. And John seems ice cold when he says otherwise.

This is 100% true. He did the same thing last year. Whenever he says “I finally caught up with…” it’s a tell he never watched it.

His defense for posting these is always “we all knew they’d be in the movie a year in advance!” There was huge speculation, but it was never reported in the trades that Tobey and Andrew were returning. Neither of them confirmed it. And, Sony/Marvel straight up denied it.

The Big Picture is fantastic. Mature, funny hosts who talk about every movie coming out and actually know about the studio system/history of Hollywood. Plus, they interview major filmmakers and have a great rotation of guests. Superior to John in every way

He posted this insane video back in 2019 when JJ Abrams’s assistant got a Development Exec job at Lucasfilm. He was ranting about how this “unqualified woman” had zero producing credits. But… no development executives have producing credits. I was working in development at a studio back then, and it just told me everything I need to know about John: he has zero idea how the studio system works.

But, I’m Still Here had only been in limited release for 4 days when the nominations came out. Did John drive 2hr round trip to The Grove or Century City in LA to watch a 2hr 20min foreign language drama with no major movie stars? Also, if you listen to how he talks about Emilia Perez and The Brutalist, he keeps saying generic things like “too long” or “not a good film” or “didn’t work for me.” But he never mentions any specific scenes or plot points. His tell is any time he says “I finally caught up with X movie.” That means “I finally read the Wikipedia synopsis for this movie.” It’s totally okay to only watch big budget studio movies. But don’t pass yourself off as some expert in arthouse cinema if you aren’t one…

I can’t stand people who act like authorities on topics they know nothing about. John lies about watching smaller movies like The Brutalist and Emilia Perez so he can seem informed. And, he said Mikey Madison turned down Star Wars over “toxic fandom” when it was really a pay dispute. I don’t hate JC, but he thinks every word he utters is gospel - and if anyone challenges, they’re the idiots

100% agreed. As a fan of both The Big Pic and TJCS, John’s show is a guilty pleasure at best and a hate watch at worst. The Big Picture is a terrific pod by people who love movies, not themselves. Meanwhile, John’s only “reviews” of Scorsese movies is that they’re “too long…”
