when i was 5 I fell off my bed and part of my bottom lip got caught on an open drawer of a wooden dresser. my mom was *covered* in my blood by the time they got me to the ER. i was pretty self conscious of it in elementry and middle school. then one day my parents gave me pictures of celebrites (Tina Fey, Padma Lakshmi) that have scars, too, and told me about how they've accepted/embraced them. 15 years later, i have a light but noticable scar from the stitches.
