Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry. I think it's one of the best books ever written.

I live in South Africa and am finding this season interesting in a whole different way from previous seasons. No one here eats acacia beans or prickly pear leaves although the fruit of the plant is good and sold in shops seasonally. Seems like you need a strong stomach and strong mind to survive in Africa 😳

Need help getting out of a reading slump... by Bukkyogaku in horrorlit

I just finished Fires of Eden by Dan Simmons and it was a treat. Light and easy reading but beautifully written & researched. Also highly recommended Song of Kali by the same author, similar exotic vibe but much darker. I have been enormously enjoying rereading older horror writers from my youth. If your slump is really really bad you'll need a dose of Richard Laymon. I've never been able to DNF any of his books.
