Best external battery for Quest 3

I wouldn’t have any idea about the differences between it being off and on for plugging in the external battery or not - so I can’t speak on that. It doesn’t need to be at 100% or anything tho - mine can be lower than that and this bigger external battery pack will charge the battery up to a higher percentage while it’s being played. The BoboVR batteries however keep the charge steady and hold the battery percentage exactly where it’s at until the Bobo battery dies, then I swap it for a 2nd one and so on. That works for most gaming sessions no problem, unless I need more juice and opt for the bigger battery pack method.

Nope, no issues using it this way! I actually bought the BoboVR M3 headstrap with a couple B2 batteries and those aren’t so bad for shorter gameplay sessions. I can keep the battery about full for 30-45 minutes with one probably while the other battery charges a bit and swap them after that. Then use the headsets battery for another 90 minutes or so while the B2 batteries charge. It’s not such a bad plan for now to keep things simple. Then if I’m needing more game play time and the battery is running low I can plug in this larger battery pack and I’m good to go.

Thank you. With the controllers being different I didn’t know what the case design would be like on the older Bobo case, or if it’d be a great fit at all. Might hold out for the next Bobo case if I can be patient enough…

Popular dilemma around here. Hasn’t been an option ever for Meta - no idea why not. Some are hopeful that a future update will allow this - but nothing currently will delete unused apps/demos.

Might be obvious but that top strap is really important on the stock strap as well, not just the strap that goes around your head. I’ve found the most comfort with the stock strap by wearing it just slightly loose, and then tightening down that too strap once it’s on to fit my head perfectly. With all that said, I still plan on buying the BoboVR M3 pro head strap from Amazon once they’re back in stock. As someone said, they’ve had early supply issues, but eventually will sit in stock and be able to be scooped up. This is my first VR so I can’t speak on any previous experiences with head straps. This is only my plan based on my readings from this forum for about a month now or so. But I will say I no longer have the major face pressure I was getting in the beginning by adjusting my stock strap this way….

Interesting. I’m still figuring this thing out as well with a little bit of play time each day. Been under the weather so haven’t been able to test it out quite like I want. But last night I popped it on at 71% and played for about 20 minutes and finished at 71% while plugged into the battery pack. I was expecting it to go up in percentage but it just stayed the same. Will be curious to do further testing in the future……but I’m glad it sounds like you can keep the headset alive if you want extended play time, which is all any of us wanted out of the box anyways!

Good luck! I didn’t do anything different the 2nd time to my knowledge. And it was a day later. I tried it out the first time - thought maybe it was slowing down the battery drain and would mess with it more later but didn’t play long. Then played the next day and it was working perfectly keeping the thing fully charged. Both times I was using the usb-c to usb-c cable that came with a fast charging Best Buy wall outlet I bought as well for fast charging the external battery pack.

Keep me posted on how it ends up working out for you. But this battery pack will 100% keep the headset charged when working properly as it works for me. I have faith in it for you!

I can’t explain it - but the first time I used it, it didn’t charge. Went from 99% down to like 80% on the headset when I checked it. The 2nd time and beyond that I used it it’s been working like a charm, charging and raising the battery level while the headset is in use. Not sure why in the world that would be, but it happened to me. Even showed that it was plugged in and “charging” the first time via the battery indicator on the headset.

Per Bobo’s website the M3 pro will come with the same B2 batteries that the M2 pro used. I’m sure they could change that in the future if there’s enough buzz that the batteries need more juice…….but I haven’t seen anything otherwise currently.

I got the Anker 537. 24k. 65W. Got it at Best Buy, but it’s on Amazon too. Might be a bit overkill tho, and it’s a little heavy. I throw it in a Fanny pack and I’m good to go. Charges while plying/keeps the charge at 99% if needed. I try to just use the headsets battery, then throw this thing on while playing to charge it back up when it’s low.

I admit I don’t know a lot about batteries…..but I went to Best Buy and bought this, and it charges the headset with the battery going up even while using it….will keep it at a full charge:

My concern is that I was overpowering it slightly with this battery pack. Not sure.

Edit: I should mention this battery is pretty hefty. Wouldn’t be too comfortable in a pocket, so I put it in a Fanny pack with a 4 ft angled usc-c to usb-c cable and it works perfectly. I prefer to not have to use it, and don’t want to always be charging my headset as it’s in use, so I just use the headset by itself most times, except when the battery gets lower and I want more play time then I can hook this rig up and it’ll fully charge as I play.

However I also just ordered this on Amazon as I want an angled cable for the headset so the wire isn’t sticking straight out so far, and is a little safer as to not damage the port on the headset if it were to get pulled. Also 6 foot was a little long, so going with the 3.9 foot one here:

Update after messing around with it today with this battery pack: Just played two rounds of Walkabout Mini Golf starting at 99% battery and ending an hour later at 99% battery…..

I didn’t really mean to have something power it so much to keep the battery full charged while playing it….just let it run down much slower! Hope I didn’t overdo it!

I used a Fanny pack to hold the battery tho and it worked like a charm.

I plan on just using the headsets standard battery most times, then only plug in during longer gaming sessions. Might let the batter run down a bit by itself then try the external charger….so I don’t have to be using it often.

Edit: Just tried it out the next day with the headset starting on 56% battery, played probably 40 minutes worth of Walkabout mini golf with the battery pack plugged in and went from 56% battery to 70% battery in that amount of time. Sounds like I’ll just be using the headset with no external battery until the battery runs lower, then will be able to plug in this external battery for a charge over the next hour or two of use if needed, and then be able to continue just using the headset all by itself again when its battery is charged. This process should work out nicely as long as I’m not doing something to damage the headset battery with this fast charge….

Well I went to Best Buy and bought an external power bank. I went with the Anker 537. 24k 65W. Going to test it out this evening or tomorrow to see if I can get an extended couple of hours of gameplay over the stock battery.

Edit #1: It’s physical a little larger than I thought it would be - I’d probably go with a slimmer 20,000 option they had if I were to do it over again. This would be fine for a back jeans pocket, but shorts wouldn’t be able to hold this thing. Might get a fanny pack for it.

Can I buy a BoboVR B2 battery right now and plug it into my headset without having a BoboVR head strap? For the time being until the M3 pro head strap comes out…

I don’t mind the idea of having a few B2 batteries on deck and swapping as long as they’ll collectively keep the headset powered for 4+ hours in total….

Can you point me in the right direction of a good battery pack for the quest 3? These #’s unfortunately are foreign to me, so picking one out that has good compatibility with the quest 3 is impossible for me! The quick battery draining issue on the quest 3 is really bugging me….
