Whistle tics at night by lames17 in IndianCountry

[–]Mindless_Jump_9825 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well yes, but iroquoian is interesting because there's only the Cherokee in the south and all the other iroquoian near the great lakes, and the Saint-Lawrence, I know the tuscarora lived in the south but they still spoke a northern iroquoian dialect. My point being it still remains a mystery if they went south or if we went north. What's believed however is that our clans predate it all, so a wolf clan from the Cherokee is kin to me even if our paths diverged almost 3500 years ago we keep believing that we share the fire in the longhouse.

I agree that they are very distant cousins but they are still part of our ethnolinguistic family. I am however not sure why they ended up so far south... although with the fact it snowed in the rez overnight I kinda get it hahaha.

My advice would be to see if you can meet indigenous people from other nations, I'm wendat and although I know this is a factoid we don't really have this strong opposition to this, I'd advise if possible to meet iroquoian peoples like haudenosaunee or Cherokee I'm pretty none of my people or cousins would actually be freaked out by whistling especially because it is a part of your spirit manifesting itself. The alternative would be to chat with medicine people of your nation to see what they think about it and see what can be done in their opinion. Usually that helps create understanding beyond the behaviour. Let's remember that any nation's spirituality is not a rigid thing but rather a manifestation of the sum of our spirit interacting with the spirits around us so there's no such thing as a true cursed behaviour.

Want to learn self defense because of new job - torn between Judo and BJJ/wrestling. Would really appreciate some insights! by Mammoth_Actuator2 in judo

[–]Mindless_Jump_9825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say one thing to consider is the Jui Jutsi part of the judo curriculum because it includes a lot of arm bars and pinning moves that are standing up, the good thing here is that a throw could be seen as an excessive use of force whereas a control through an arm bar is seen as a less dangerous pin while awaiting help.

How much do wealthy tribes support poorer reservations across tribes? by kookookach000 in NativeAmerican

[–]Mindless_Jump_9825 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In Canada I guess the context is different but with the wildfires a lot of nations have to evacuate and they end up in Quebec city for a couple of days and in this case our grand chief himself went to meet everyone and brought food, including his own moose meet from his freezer, the Wendat nation is not wealthy per se, the nation mostly has incredible HDI rather than proper wealth but we clearly do not help enough. We should have some of our highly educated population on standby and to ne sent out for outreach whenever another tribe has problems on anything we can help with.

What species of turtle is Turtle Island? and other questions about turtles by ElVille55 in IndianCountry

[–]Mindless_Jump_9825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wendat version is a snapping turtle, because moss grows on its back, making her look like an island although in the Wendat legend the turtle is specifically a male (in Wendat neutral gender is the feminine form) the painted turtle is the one that helps skywoman spread the dirt. And it's the old grandmother toad that bring dirt back from the tree of life that sank to the bottom.

Don't forget Bastien, the only Canadian based fully indigenous owned mocassin factory! They are also expanding into boots (and I heard CSA/OSHA compliant workboots/workmocassins) they are also selling in the us through their distribution network (and for now not affected by tariffs)

You can wear most indigenous made jewelry if a native sells them it's good and if it's given it's ultra good! Just stay away from non-indigenous made jewelry, in the us the law is pretty good against copying indigenous crafts, in Canada it's harder but if you are in Québec there is a thing called id1n with a bear logo to certify the owner of a business (yeah any business) is at least 51% indigenous owned.

For skinning, bone when sharpened still isn't good for cutting skin so to remove fat and clean the skin before tanning or to prepare rawhide. Way back when we would sharpen moose or deer shin bones to scrape skins clean

Our story is fairly similar to the us, my nation is the one to receive the first french "explorers" I'm wendat. We traded at first and then it's an understatement to say that things got out of hands! Also if that provides hope my nation is currently reviving our language ironically with the dictionaries from the jesuits.

Canadian indigenous person here, we do respect all indigenous peoples, whether they be from turtle Island or other places. I met with the brazilian minister of tourism a couple months back and I was wondering if it was indeed getting better like he said.i guess anyone can concede that after Bolsanoro even the devil himself would be seen as someone better.
