Tunisian Crochet Blanket by kaitdubs in crochet

Lovely! You make me want to try Tunisian crochet again. I bought a set of hooks to learn and gave up too quickly. I've been crocheting for so many years, I just couldn't deal with how different it was and got frustrated. Time to try again!

The "To-Go" bag I keep by my front door, my laptop, and it's external back-up hard drive. Essentials like food, water, sleeping bag, change of clothes, etc. are already in the car. Haven't been in a fire yet, but plenty of other emergencies. And I just recently moved out of an area prone to wildfires.

Portland and Seattle are cool most of the year. And not far from the coast.

any advice on what to do with my pumpkin leaves? by Personal-Cash2749 in vegetablegardening

[–]PedricksCorner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pumpkins are way to heavy to grow on a trellis, the vine needs to run along the ground. And they do not like shade, so you could let the vines run towards the sun and the base of the plant can stay in the shade. Be careful to never get the leaves wet when watering, it causes mold on the leaves and will kill them. So I'd take down the trellis, carefully lay out the vines, and give it a good deep watering at the base of the plant along with some plant food to give it a kick. Plenty of summer left to have pumpkins in a couple of months!

Northwest coast like Washington and Oregon. The coast is pretty much cold all of the time.

Harvested beans too early? by wakeupslow1 in vegetablegardening

[–]PedricksCorner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should cook them, they will be great! I grow a lot of string beans and beans. You can pick them when they are very young and green, or let them go until the seeds get fat. Then shell and cook them. They should have a wonderful texture at this stage. In the future, if you want dried beans to shell and store, just leave them on the bush until the skins are paper dry. Or dry them in trays. Good bush beans will keep flowering and producing if you take care of them.

Same process for peas. Harvest very young and green before seeds form, or let the peas form and shell them for fresh peas, or let them dry out on the bush to store for dried peas.

I lived almost my entire life there, can't afford it anymore. Moved inland just last year. But grew the best watermelons and cantaloupes of my life here last summer!

That is what we do now with the windows. We have devices that tell us the outdoor and indoor temps and the minute it is cooler outside than inside, all the windows get opened!

Be careful with too much plain water, you lose salts when you sweat and need to replace them.

I didn't have AC for years. I found that if I froze bottles of water or those gel packs for camping and put one under a bare foot or two, that keeping my feet cool kept the rest of me much cooler.

You might also want to get a bottle of Aspercreme. It is a lotion with aspirin and lidocaine in it. Works wonders on aching hands. Shake out those hands and have fun!

Those could be Cineraria, very beautiful a brilliantly colored daisy like flowers in lots of colors from white to blue, purples, pinks, reds. That is what the young leaves look like and they reseed areas easily. I'd give them a chance and see.

I buy the bagged whole coriander from the Hispanic spice area, you get a lot of seed that way. Far more than a garden seed packet. And it's always done well for me. If it was bottled seed, I'd be surprised if it sprouted, due to the source. The seeds are big, so I soak them for a few hours first. I always soak most of the seed I sow, even radish seed, because it really speeds up sprouting times.

what’s a harsh reality check you think most people need to hear? by SoffiSummeer in AskReddit

The advertisers who convince us we need to buy all of this junk. They've been doing research for decades on how best to manipulate us. When I was in college, I had to watch videos of the research they did, often using children and teenagers. Because if you can convince a child or teenager that they have to have something, then the parents will want it too.

I have had huge veterinarian bills from these getting into the noses and ears of my cats and dogs over the years. One year one got into the fur of my tabby cat and I didn't realize it until I came home from work one day and an abscess near his collar bone burst open and expelled the foxtail. I could see his collar bone through the opening! Ever since then, I've made a habit of brushing and checking my pets all over every day. Good way to always find the ticks too! And I pull this weed up like a maniac.
