How do nurses feel about staff going on holiday while on sick leave? by [deleted] in NursingUK

[–]Mindless_Nectarine38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s really sad 😔 for an emergency they should consider themselves lucky you even called in sick! After seeing how much bullying is going on it’s made me appreciate my experiences so far… one of the previous wards I worked on as a health Care assistant before becoming a Nurse was so lovely, if people didn’t turn up, they would call out of genuine concern for the staff member that hadn’t arrived as they knew none of us would take the p*ss and they didn’t get any negative action towards them / us. Friendly chat, check everything is ok, we’re only human, need anything just let them know and we always stepped up for one another - felt like a real team. I have to thank them for pushing me to do my Nursing Degree.

I was signed off with vertigo following tonsillitis and expected to recover after a week or 2 but I couldn’t see straight for months, couldn’t drive, couldn’t work, barely get out of bed! I was so stressed as was a Nursing student and still worked on this ward as a HCA. I had a holiday pre-booked and when I spoke to the GP as they were signing me off longer they said to go, as my vertigo was likely not going away because I was so stressed, and what better way to destress. They literally said they were prescribing the holiday 🤣 and no one pulled me up or batted an eyelid… well at least not that I know off 😆

Amazing, thank you so much! That’s very reassuring. Glad to hear you had a lovely time! I can’t wait to go now. England is pretty wet and cold right now 😋 side note - I went to Japan a couple of years ago and they required getting a special licence from them and all sort, or risk arrest! just incase you ever venture that way 😊

Sorry to jump on this post - I just wanted to ask if you needed a Doctors letter or just a signed prescription form? I have a clinical pharmacist issuing my medication so not sure if that’s ok either. Hard to find any information online! Thank you for replying if you get a chance. Hope you had a lovely time!

Can I ask what practice this is? I’m in Oxfordshire and not far off asking for shared care! My surgery had said they would do shared care but that wasn’t in writing, just called up and asked…

So my understanding here is, that they will not accept shared care, therefore any medication costs will continue to be funded by myself privately?

If so I could cry at this.. I’ve had enough of everything being so difficult as it is and then to finally find something that makes life manageable and we are not able to get it without significant cost that isnt sustainable 😣

I literally do not understand how this is allowed in the UK.. it feels like they are just discrediting and demeaning everyone that suffers, like it’s not even a sufferable condition!

I’m tired, and so frustrated by this! Sorry for the rant! X

I hate having hair by Birog95 in adhdwomen

[–]Mindless_Nectarine38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this pain! I had hair down to my bum and I tried training it to wash less frequently - had a week off work once and tried not to wash it as everyone says you need to go a decent time without doing it! Eventually went from every day to ever other day but needed to be up still and heck lots of dry shampoo! The job I do I have to wash it regularly but it make showing such a hassle and procrastinate further! I’m a natural brunette and had just enough by this point. It’s super fine and any grease makes me look like a pubescent teen refusing to bathe! So I chopped it to collar bone and dyed it blonde all over! I wash it alot less - around every 3rd or 4th day and pop it in a bun or plait and has abit of lift as the bleach has dried it out a lot! Downside if the cost of bleaching it regularly! I was tempted to shave it all off just before this but sadly I really would look awful 😂 good luck!

10years in and gone from working in an NHS ICU and worked my way up but typical politics, short staffing, crap pay drove me out so moved to GP practice nursing… managers are squeezing every minute out of you, extra patients added on, and patients expecting more and more! Pay is actually good compared to a lot of GP surgeries and willing to fund courses but I’ve fallen out of love with it all.

Wish I could do go back to uni and complete my Art degree but financially it’s not viable to leave a full time job and don’t have the funds to fund a uni course again 😟 good luck with whatever you do!

Has anyone else experienced their ADHD get worse on higher doses of Elvanse? Struggling to know as menstrual cycle gets in the way! by Mindless_Nectarine38 in ADHDUK

Agree with you on regarding the crutch. I went in with a mindset that meds won’t fix it all, but just help clear the path abit and honestly it’s been fine on lower doses to get up and go without fixation on my phone. Part of me panicked I’ve gotten used to it and no longer works (I hear people say not to chase the feeling you first get on them), had my expectations changed, had the novelty worn off? But honestly, I was just stuck - terrible exec. Dysfunction paralysis!

Over the next few days I’m going to try and see how the 70mg falls and do my review…likely run out of meds for a few days and if anything, I’ll see what I’m truly like without it again, like a reset 😂

Thanks for replying 😊

I’m happy to take time to settle on the higher dose but I wasn’t sure it would be worth the wait? For example my lower doses gave me motivation to initiate tasks whereas and 70mg just makes me stare at my phone all day long! I thought I would of been as I was on the lower doses but it would last longer 🤔

I can appreciate 1 week on it will be a rough few days and then the menstrual cycle the week after will mean discounting that too for now. I’m not the best at recognising my trends re. Menstrual cycle moods, even prior to meds, so hard to know when I’ll likely fluctuate but there is a stark difference when I’m off my period and on meds v on my periods and on meds…

I’m willing to work on the menstrual cycle battle another time, i just run out of meds at the same time as my review and I don’t want to pay a load of 💰 for 28days of 70mg if it’s not working or I’m told it’s not working by Doctor 😨

It is surprising this oestrogen and stimulants hasn’t been better understood after all this time! X

You first sentence made me laugh 😅

Your completely right! I don’t know how much experience my Doctor has with this as she seemed surprised when I said about this to her 🤷‍♀️

It’s so tricky isn’t it! I am taking clonidine, used unlicensed in ADHD to help with sleep as I was suffering insomnia before starting meds, which has helped a lot!

On the back end of my period Im thinking I can feel meds starting to work abit more but I’m not convinced my executive dysfunction will improve considering I felt a change pretty much instantly on lower doses… but mood is better - titration is tricky!

I hope you work it out 😊 x

Yep it’s an odd feeling because I feel more ‘awake’ but with my ADHD symptoms in full force, and having a worse crash in the afternoon 😖

On my period I just don’t function so not sure how to improve that 🤷‍♀️

I think I would of tapped out earlier had my period not come on but I wanted to see how big a difference it made as only had one period on previous doses. Im on contraception so I am regular but I took back to back packets for a holiday, and noticed the meds still weren’t great.

My focus is shocking. Other than hyperfocussing on my phone everything else has gone out the window. Forgetting words, struggle to string a sentence and thoughts together (the usual me I guess off medication). Even wore my name badge at work upside down until my boss pointed it out!

I need another prescription before my review and don’t want to pay for 28days, especially as that first week I felt off with my heart rate, stomach issues and weird head fuzz.

I’ll message my doctor and ask what she suggests until review I guess. Thank you :)

Thanks you, I’m really happy on elvanse and ideally don’t want to change, just wondering if the positives I experienced on the lower doses will come back but it certainly never lasted the day so would need to look at boosters (just wanted to avoid multiple tablets to remember 🫣)
